Not A Day at the Beach

Ricci didn’t come to school again today. She, Goyo and the girls visited us on Thursday night, which was her birthday. She didn’t really say anything about coming to school. I hope she decides to attend some time in the next two days or else they’ll expell her for missing 10 days in a row.

I went with Mario on Friday to the beach to pick up Eenan’s shoes. It was such a nice day but we didn’t get off at the beach; just went straight there and back for the shoes. I’m sort of regretting not going to school now. I didn’t want to take John’s Civic to school, seeing as how it breaks at the last minute and all down the Expressway people are coming to complete stops. I should have taken it anyway. I ruined my perfect attendance AND I have a zero–first zero ever–because we can’t make up quizzes and we take a quiz every day. Grr.

Anyway, we tried resting as much as possible after we got back Friday. We picked Eenan up then went to the movies. We made the mistake of taking the boys with us to watch Underworld. Jaylen was fine–he even fell asleep halfway through like he usually does. Eenan, on the other hand, was crying during the “sad” parts. The decapitations that were going on left and right didn’t scare him and we covered his eyes during the rated R parts, but still, it was such a bad movie to take them to. Next time I’ll listen to Mom when she asks if I’d like her to babysit.

After the movies we went to Wal-Mart to buy house stuff (TP, detergent, etc.). Our darn Debit Card wasn’t working so we ended up having to write a check, which I hate doing. I hope the darn bank doesn’t charge us any insufficient funds fees, since the money was in there but the debit card just wasn’t being accepted.

I spent Saturday morning cleaning the house and then Eenan, Jaylen, John, Mom, and I went to visit Gramma. She’s doing fine, thank goodness. Her Shingles spots disappeared, but she says she still feels a bit of itching.

I went back to Wal-Mart to return a chrome tea kettle we’d bought on Friday. The darn lid fell off so I got a better one. $6 more expensive but it’s so pretty and black :). After that we went to H-E-B to do some grocery shopping. I got a bunch of stuff (including junk food–we indulged this time) and I only spent $105! We usually spend close to $200 every two weeks, but I’m learning how to keep track and buy only what we need. Okay, so we don’t need junk food but we never buy any so it’s okay .

Did I mention how bad the boys behaved that day? My gosh. The older they get, the worse they act in public. I’m the lady you see at the store that you feel bad for and annoyed by at the same time because she can’t control her screaming kid. I thought it was supposed to get better?!

Mario and I went to Chris and Nancy’s that night. Yadira, Yazmin, Angela and Tommy stopped by later and all the women stayed inside talking. When everyone started leaving Nancy and I went to her room to watch their wedding photos, which they had put on DVD. The guy did an amazing job, he even made a DVD cover. We didn’t get home till 2am that night. I was SO tired.

We were supposed to go to the zoo on Sunday, but we were so sleepy and the weather was murky (it got better later on, so I wish we’d gone!). I spent the morning doing my homework, which Mrs. C-R was kind enough to e-mail to me on Friday. We went to watch Saw 2 later on and this time we did leave the boys with mom. That movie was disturbing. I liked it a lot better than Saw, but it was twice more gorey. I loved how the storyline flowed though. It was awesome.

Man, I’m falling asleep here. On top of that I’ve got a sore throat and I’m wearing the stupid, huge black pique polo we use as our “uniform”, so I’m feeling quite uncomfortable. Yep, we’re in college and wear uniforms, bleh. We’re not allowed to wear our T-shirt school shirts anymore because of the hoochie mamas that would tie the shirt behind their backs or rip them to look “fashionable”. Thanks, skanks. Now I’ve got to go spend $23 on a new polo because I hate the one they “gave” me at the start of the school year. They better have Small this time or I’m going to raise hell.

A Day at the Beach

We made a trip to the beach on Saturday to watch Yazmin compete. Oh, and what a trip it was! We were making good time and all of a sudden we end up at the bridge to cross to Matamoros, Mexico. As we’re approaching the “toll booths”, we’re all oohing and ahhing about how Brownsville’s growing and how they have these toll booths, and man! They’re really growing! As we near the booth I notice there’s a bridge and say, “Guys…I think this goes to Mexico.” We quietly look around in horror and when Elda asks the man if the bridge is to Mexico he confirms our fears. A security guard (mortifyingly) has three cars reverse so we can get out of there. The security guard supposedly gives us fool proof directions to South Padre and off we go. Right.

Yazmin’s first performance (the jazz dance) was scheduled for 1:08. We arrived at the island at about 1:20. We totally missed it.

We decide to have lunch since her second performance, the hip-hop one, was set for 3:00.

We head to Whataburger and I think, cool, I’ll have a salad. As I’m smothering the salad with dressing I turn the package and read: Calories – 310. Holy cow. I seriously had no idea Ranch dressing was so bad. I could have had a darn burger!

We caught Yazmin’s 2nd performance and all the girls did SO good. I’m so proud of her :).

We took the kids to the beach for a little while afterwards and they had a blast playing in the sand. We didn’t let them get in the water since it was freezing, but they did run around without shoes and their pants rolled up.

Mario will be going back to the beach on his day off with Jaylen to retrieve Eenan’s sketchers. We left them in the parking lot LOL.

It was a cool day. I was so exhausted that night that I ate my Special K and laid down. Mary came in with an enchilada plate she ordered for me. I gave the kids half each of one and ate the other. I’ve been doing so bad with the diet. Mario and I even shared a pint of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream, my absolute favorite, that Mary’d bought for me.

*In Fat Bastard voice* I can’t stop eeeeating!

Mary, the boys and I went to Peter Piper Pizza on Sunday and then to watch Hoodwinked, which was cute, but kind of drawn out for me. I think my favorite character was the goat . Mario had the day off but refused to go with us because he decided to be a big baby since he couldn’t find his Matco cap. I’d like to smack him with…something sometimes…

I had Monday off, so I spent it going through the kids’ toys and separating for the garage sale. They have a ridiculous amount of stuff. I’d take a picture of the ruins so that you can see for yourself how horrible it is but CPS would probably be called on me for having so much shit. I still have to go through their bookshelf, big toybox, and stuffed animal toybox. Jesus. At least there’s a very clear path to their beds now .

I need to finish my Compare and Contrast essay. I’m comparing and contrasting myself and Mario. I’m totally stuck at how to transition from the first paragraph to the second. It’s been YEARS since I’ve written an essay. I hope I do okay in this class (Technical Writing). Our final is persuading people to buy a product, due on the 26th. Oh gawd.

I shall iron now and then I shall spend my night trying not to eat the powdered donuts that are in the cabinet.

Baby Talk

I’m sneaking away from my nightly chores (I should be ironing and getting ready to take a shower right now) because I just got such exciting news from my husband.

I don’t know if it’s all the baby talk or the fact that Yadira’s pregnant and the whole family’s just ecstatic that there’ll be a new baby here soon (or not soon enough!) but Mario just came up behind me, put his chin on my head and said, “After you finish school, I’ll consider having a baby.”

I was in total shock and couldn’t believe what I’d heard. I spun around and asked, “WHAT? Really? Where’d that come from?”

“Don’t ask, just accept it”, and he smiled as he walked out the door.

This is totally unexpected. My body, not so much me, as been ready for a baby for quite some time. This means I have to start getting in shape, too. I weighed myself at Jaylen’s doctor yesterday and I weigh exactly 120 lbs. (although the scale at home says 116, darnit!). I don’t want to be at the weight I’m at now and get pregnant. With both the boys I gained 20 lbs. with each pregnancy; if I gain that much this time (and I will!) I’ll be 140 lbs. and 4’11” tall. Not good!

It’s like some kind of sign or something. All week the women in the family have been talking about babies when we get together. I was reading pregnancy magazines at Jaylen’s doctor’s office last night. We especially got into baby talk tonight. Elda wants to try, Annie might be pregnant and of course everyone’s hoping Mario and I will try soon since “Jaylen’s getting older”. The plan I’d formed in my head was that I’d try when Jaylen was 4. I graduate in April and he turns 4 in April!

Granted, he said he’d consider it and the word consider doesn’t mean it’ll actually happen. It’s still nice to think that it might.

The only two things that I’m worried about if we do decide to conceive are that I’ll have another complicated pregnancy and that they won’t want me at a new job newly pregnant. I don’t want to think about that right now though. I just want to bask in this lovely idea :).

Jaylen’s doing much better. I took him to the doctor last night since he had his 3rd fever since Monday. They checked him for Strep, Flu, and gave him a blood test but all was negative/healthy. Dr. Z gave him Amoxillin, Motrin, congestion medication and ear drops just in case, since he was complaining about his ears and throat. It took forever at the appointment, but I’m just glad they actually saw Jaylen. We took his prescription in (I saw Johanna’s hubby there!) and that took a while so we didn’t get home till 10p.m.

I was up waiting for his fever to subside for an hour and a half last night. I kept praying to God and checking up on him every 10 minutes. One of the kids toys mysteriouly went off on it’s own and I thought to myself, “God, are you giving me a sign? Is he okay?” So I got up and checked on him and his fever was gone :).

I should do my chores now. Ricci’s going to stop by to get our assignment (she didn’t go to school today) and to pick up some stuff. G’nite!
