Hold the Sugar

It’s uncomfortably cold in this office. I made myself a cup of manzania tea to help, and I’m going to TRY to use only one packet of sugar. I decided today that I need to commit to cutting back on sugar. And coffee. It’s happening again, like a few years ago, that I’d get a really upset stomach and I’d feel jittery and like crap all day. Hence why I drink soda only once in a blue moon.

So. I’m going to try. To curb the jittery-feel-like-crapness and to try and lose some weight! We’re getting back into the comfort snacking and it’s not good. We’d been doing so well, but as of November…we stumbled off the wagon =\.

I remember completely giving up coffee back when I’d developed diabetes in 2008 and I hated artificial sweeteners so I just stopped drinking it. And then of course I got pregnant with Emily so I stayed off it, heh.

It’s so hard to stay away from sugar working here, though! Just today they brought us pan dulce from De Alba’s bakery. I got a cookie, just so I wasn’t rude, but I only took a bite. I could taste the shortening so I didn’t eat it. But had it been a brownie…!

(Ew. Only one packet of sugar is bleh :(.)

But I drank the darn thing with just that one and I’m warm (and they turned the air up, too!). I need to get some healthy snacks. I eat lunch at 11:30…so by the time I go home and start dinner I’m ravenous and want to eat everything in sight =\.

The days are just dragging by. We’re at a standstill with events right now, so it’s been pretty chill for me for a few weeks. I should just enjoy it and quit complaining, though. Soon enough we’ll be preparing for 3 new events and I’m going to PRAY for some downtime.

(I couldn’t help it. I stole 3 Jelly Bellies from a box on my co-worker’s desk. No willpower!)

Ok. Trying to get CVB’s Pinterest to work. That’s all for now :).

[edited @ 6:44pm] Well. Like Michelle announced on Facebook…yes. I gave in *sigh*. We went downstairs at 4:30 and had some sweet bread. She had a tiny piece of cookie and I had a small piece of danish but the point is, we gave in. We’d just been looking at before and after pics of girls who’d gotten body wraps done. And then we immediately went to stuff our faces LOL.

I ran some errands right after work. We were having a reception; we’re hosting the VP of Education of Apple Inc. because of the iPads the district is buying but I didn’t want to wait half an hour to attend it. So I came home and I’m so glad I did. I remembered Jorge said he wanted to barbecue, which meant I didn’t have to cook :)! He’s the best :*). I find myself staring at him and wondering how I got so lucky. Like this morning: he got up half an hour earlier than he had to and gave the girls breakfast while I finished getting ready for work :D.

I lazied around with the girls after work and then my love got home :). We talked to the boys and then John got here, then Jr. got here. We ate, I bathed the girls and put them to bed. And now we’re relaxing on the porch :).

I didn’t update last week after we went to the movies, but we didn’t do too much. We relaxed, which was totally fine with me, heh. Visited Gramma and got to chat with Aunt Nora and Linda a while. We went to the park, spent some time outside in the fresh air and RELAXED :).

My love and I had made plans to go out on St. Patrick’s Day but that didn’t end up happening. I felt guilty about even making plans knowing we had the kids, but I thought, Hey, I work, I’m a good Mom, good girlfriend, it’s ok if we go out for once! BUT, low and behold, we ended up having to convenience the worthless. It didn’t matter, though :). We had fun playing Monopoly with the kids and we had a tiny visitor everyone was hoping to see . Spend time with the kiddos or go out and spend money? That’s an easy one :).

Briana and the kiddos came over to visit on Sunday. We had coffee and caught up and watched all the kids play :). Then that night was spent rushing at the last minute, getting things ready for the next day (this also refers to the conveniencing of said worthless). I even put all the kiddos to bed late, but they were all cooperative the next morning. Even the boys, who have to wake up at 5:45 with me.

John and his girlfriend, Monique, stopped by last night and had dinner here and the four of us laughed and shared stories about dreams and other stuff until I had to bathe the girls. It’s wonderful seeing my bro so genuinely happy :*)!

It’s going to be torture not seeing the boys this week and even worse that all the kids will be with Mario this weekend :(. Maybe I’ll finally end up going to get my massage (still have my gift card!) to just do something on Saturday?

Ok. I have a Words by Post game pending with Jorge and Jr., so this’ll be all. Sorry this post is all over the place hehe :).

The Lorax & the Countdown

It occurred to me today, as Michelle and I sat at the front desk, that today marks exactly one month till my 30th birthday! 30 days left of my 20’s. I can’t say I’m panicking, or that I feel sad about it. I feel younger than I have in years, and Jaylen says I look 23 so I’ll take it! 😀

It’s been a super relaxing week at work. I’m at the reception desk all week so I’ve spent it answering calls, taking messages, preparing certificates (still), and playing Words By Post with my Babe and Jr. whenever I get a minute throughout the day 😛 Sure does make the time go by fast, thank goodness. I’m proud to announce that I’ve beaten Jorge 12 of 14 games hehe.

I got out a little early yesterday to rush home, change and make sure the kids had dinner and were ready for the movies. We picked up Jorge and headed to Carmike. We made it just on time, got our tickets; got good, albiet close, seats and got all the kids their drinks, popcorn and candy. We were a little skeptical about how things may pan out with 6 kids at the movies, but things went smooth as can be :). They were all well behaved and into “The Lorax”, and the girls only had 1 potty break :).

We got home and the kids played while Jorge and I rushed around sweeping and vacuuming. He finished while I made dinner. We lazied around with the kiddos while we watched The Voice and played Words By Post :P.

I’ve gotten a chance to have lunch with my love this week. We don’t get to anymore since I use my lunch hour to pick up Aly from school, so we’re taking advantage this week, hehe. We’ve had Espi & T’s twice. My fave :).

I got Friday off to spend with the kiddos. Let’s see if we can find something fun and inexpensive to do :). It’s been great having them all home . I don’t think they’d seen sunlight since Monday. I told them all to go outside and spend a few minutes getting some sun while I make dinner (chicken Alfredo). Glad it’s getting dark later now. Really need to get them a swing set or SOMETHING. They’re happy playing tag and climbing trees right now though :).

Red Mango & the Zoo

I went to bed early the night of the 3rd. Jorge and his buddy chilled out on the porch. We were texting back and forth and he kept trying to convince me to go outside, but I was so tired I crashed out on the round sofa with Ruffles, heh. The girls had already gone to bed, but he had the boys get ready for bed. He’s the best !

I woke up completely refreshed, whipped up some banana pancakes (and hazelnut coffee for myself), and fed the kiddos. I paid bills online and then we got ready to go to the Red Mango grand-opening.

We found a parking spot right in front, which was awesome since the place was beyond packed. They gave the kids balloons, we all got free small yogurts of our choice with 2 toppings (was NOT expecting that!), free tiny cupcakes from CC’s Sweets & Tweets next door and I got a t-shirt :D.

With the Red Mango tree :)

We headed back home and the boys stayed with Mom while the girls and I went to the library for a bit. They found a few books at the book sale and we came home. I made lunch for us (deviled eggs and macaroni, their choice, heh) and we ate on the porch and then Jaylen, Aly and I played hotscotch :).

Jorge got home and we ordered Domino’s. We started noticing that it felt really hot in the house. The thermostat said it was 85 degrees . I’d noticed since much earlier, but I figured it was on account of me running around sweeping and doing laundry. We called the landlord and she said she’d try to get ahold of the air-condition guy but we never got a call back. Jorge said, “Screw it! Let’s get a hotel!” So we searched around. We wanted to stay at the beach with all the kiddos, but the Comfort Inn–where we’d stayed the week before–was sold out. Actually, every hotel we tried on South Padre Island was sold out. Stupid Spring Break!

We had planned a trip to the zoo with the kids for the next day, so we figured we’d just stay in Brownsville. We were lucky to get a hotel there; we got the last 2 rooms!

We packed quickly (yet efficiently; of course I made a list and checked it twice) and we left on our little road trip. The kids were amazingly well behaved. I think Mom was the one complaining the most, heh. Jorge and I shared MixOreds and chatted all the way. I love our little trips .

We got to the hotel and the kids all settled in and before long we were all in bed and ready to sleep.

We got up and had breakfast at McDonald’s. Not our first choice, but we’d passed all the restaurants and were almost to the zoo LOL. The kids had fun anyway. They had their breakfasts and then played in the park thing for a bit.

And then we got to the zoo. I was a little sad that the zoo looked less than…appealing. A lot of the animals were gone and it just looked messy and unkempt :(. I didn’t visit it at all last year and it looked worse than in 2010.

But the kids had fun :). Here’s a few pics:

The kids were tired by the end and so were we LOL. We had a long drive, but we stopped for snacks and listened to music on the way. We had dinner at Denny’s and then we came home and relaxed :). It was a great weekend!
