Fanciness and Mud Pits

This weekend was pretty eventful. I dropped Eenan off at school Friday, spent the day cleaning, then we picked him up, ran a few errands and met Noelia and Andy at the movies for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. IT WAS GOOD!

Goblet of Fire Mini-Review–Read at your own discretion!
I won’t go into detail, so as not to spoil it for anyone, but it was quite different from the book. It was good, of course, but lots of stuff was changed. This is my favorite movie, and book, so far.

The kids loved it. When Voldemort was “brought back”, Eenan sort of hid his face and Jaylen excitedly whispered, “Is that the Dark Lord?!” It was much more “adult” than the other movies (as they said it would be) but the kids did well anyway. During the sad part Eenan cried, and I had a lump in my throat but was blinking back tears since I was supposed to be setting an example and kept telling him, “It’s okay, Baby. Don’t cry. It’s just a movie.”
End of review.

I spent Saturday cleaning (I had this rush of energy and I had every intention of taking advantage). The house was SPOTLESS. Mary and I went to Noelia’s sorority banquet that night, so we were all dressed up and shmansy, as John says. Everyone was in glamorous dresses and tuxes. Noelia got two awards and a gift. She had a good night.

The funniest part of the evening was when one of the catering ladies tried to steal one of Mary’s pineapple upside down cakes. She made two cakes for the evening and another lady had made two. When they served us dessert, they gave us this miniscule excuse for a cake slice, and on a napkin, mind you, no fork. I’m a slow eater but I ate that tiny piece in one bite. I look over to the catering table when I’m done (since it was right next to our table) and notice that the two cakes wrapped in celophane that the other lady brought were intact and still in their celophane. I then notice that a round catering lady was discretely sliding Mary’s other cake over to a roasting pan and set it in there. I kept telling everyone how rude it was that they didn’t even cut the other cakes and then whisper-yell, “Oh my gosh, she’s taking the cake!” Everyone was laughing at my paranoia, but seconds later they too notice that she’s carefully covering the cake with napkins and placing bread loaves on top. She thought she was real slick hiding the roasting pan behind this plastic crate, but I saw everything.

When I’d had enough I tell Mary, “I’m going to go say something.” She says, “Yes, go!” So I went. I told her I saw that they didn’t use the cake, that my mother-in-law made it and we’d like it back since they weren’t serving it. She pretends she doesn’t understand English and says, “Que?” So I repeat everything in Spanish.

She says, “Oh yes, you can take the cake.” And a waiter hands me one of the cakes covered in celophane.

I say, “No, no. Not those, the one that’s under there,” and I point to the roast pan.

She says, “What cake?”

I point again and I say, “That one, the one you covered with napkins.” She stupidly starts removing the bread loafs and napkins and says, “Oh! I didn’t even know that was there! I was just starting to pack everything away.” She shoves the cake into my hands, I smile curtly and say, “Thank you!”

We couldn’t stop laughing about it later. I told Mary, “Well, you should be flattered that they liked your cake enough to steal it.”

We chilled out all day Sunday. We started the morning by putting Mom’s futon together. Later in the evening, we met up with some of Mario’s co-workers and went to the Mud Pits. I’d never been, neither had John or Mario. It was really cool. A teeny jeep got stuck in the water and had to be pulled out, and this other huge Ford Ranger almost fell sideways into the deep water. We got video of it all. At night, people were throwing themselves into the mud and a guy on an ATV got REALLY stuck. He was covered top-to-bottom in mud and since he had the crowd in the palm of his hands, went with it and just threw himself, back-first into the pool of mud. Crazy. It was a really cool experience. Next time we’ll take the boys. A plus: it’s free!

So that was my weekend. We started a new course at school today: Accounting. It’s okay so far; I thought it was going to be dreadfully boring. I hope I can get Roadrunner to fix the internet–we’ve had no internet at home all weekend.

Tonight we shall go to the mall, to see Gramma and Wal-Mart. My feet hurt just thinking about it.

Why I Neglect My Website

I’m getting way too used to using Word. When I type a word like THis, I assume Greymatter’s going to do as Word does and fix it for me. Anyway.

Mom’s almost completely moved in. Almost. Mary, Mom and I went to McAllen on Friday night to get the cologne Mario wanted for his birthday (Mom’s gift to him) and then went to buy her and John’s beds. We picked up pizza from Little Cesars at K-Mart and we get a phone call from Mario that the Yukon left him stranded. We picked him up and he sadly said goodbye to the Yukon, which was left, abandoned, at a hotel parking lot till Vito could rescue it in the morning.

Mario and I hung out at Elda and Jose’s that night, then rented movies. We got 15 minutes into the Amityville Horror and I was slipping into a coma. The movie wasn’t boring (ok, maybe slightly) but it was nearing my bedtime and I was so tired. I’m feeling older and older everyday. And I’m barely 23!

Mario went hunting Saturday morning with his dad. He didn’t kill anything, but he did see a variety of cute, furry animals. He had fun though. All day was spent cleaning, trying to watch Season 1 of Desperate Housewives while cleaning, and making 2 flans for Mario’s birthday. Needless to say, I spent the day cleaning and didn’t even get to the bedroom. It was in shambles.

Mario’s birthday get together was really nice. He spent most of the night outside with the men, grilling shriveled up little whitewings and drinking beer. I was inside with the women having our usual girl talks. Ricci, Goyo and the girls came over for a little bit. She brought a Choco-flan, which was really good. First time I’d ever tasted choco-flan. The whole get together lasted till 1:30 a.m. First time a get together’s lasted that long!

Since Mario would have to wake up at 4 to go hunting again and didn’t go to bed till almost 2, he didn’t go hunting. We went out to eat with the kids at Jesse’s when we finally woke up that afternoon. We got Eenan’s Christmas present at Target, went to Home Depot and then went home. When we got home, Mom and I left to Wal-Mart. We spent over 2 agonizing hours there getting the rest of the stuff Mom needed for her apartment. We even managed to cram a dining table into my tiny Sentra along with all the groceries, two huge packs of toilet paper and a 4-slot toaster. I’m surprised we weren’t stopped on suspicions of drug traffiking–my trunk was dragging .

We got home so late that night I was sure I’d go to sleep late. I managed to eat dinner (the kids and Mario had already eaten), did laundry, swept, made Mario’s lunch (thank God for Crock Pots), took a shower, folded/hung laundry, fed the pets and crammed in a bit more Desperate Housewives goodness and still went to sleep at the usual time. Oh yeah.

Drove Mom around again yesterday for a few more things she needed then went over to assemble her evil dining set. I thought I wanted one just like it, but after those two torturous hours I think I’ve changed my mind. I still have to go back today and help John assemble the other two chairs .

I’m going to Tinseltown to get our Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire tickets after school for this Friday. I pray they still have some . Mario and I both have the day off (woo!), but Eenan doesn’t get out of school till 3:30 so we’re planning on going for the 5 o’clock showing.

I.

CANT.

WAIT!

Other than that, I think I’ve got the day free. I’m planning on going through e-mails (forgive me for not replying to any lately) and then watch Desperate Housewives. I’m on CD 4 . I didn’t think I’d like the show, but I am HOOKED! Mario is too, but I think it’s more that he gets to watch beautiful women for hours without getting yelled at .

We have a test tomorrow and an exam on Thursday. I got a 106 (answered all 3 bonus essays correctly!) on my last exam. This class is pretty darn easy (Operating Systems). I wonder what we’re doing after this?

I’ve babbled enough I think.

Woo! I just got a $25 gift certificate to the mall for getting perfect attendance for the month of October! This day is going to ROCK.

Just the Two of Us

I got everything done really early yesterday, as Mario called me during school and asked me on a date. “Just us”, he said. You can’t imagine how excited I was about that.

I made dinner (lasagna), ironed everything and gave instructions to Mom on getting the boys showered and into bed (and prayed for the best). Mary dropped me off at Mario’s work, he changed, we ordered drinks from Whataburger and ate the lasagna and garlic bread I’d brought for us in the Yukon. We had 2 hours to waste before the movie, so we went to Wal-Mart and walked around. We decided on Jarhead, which we both wanted to see. It was a pretty good movie; the ending was kind of…”eh”, but overall it was pretty good. I saw Jake Gyllenhal (sp?) nekkid…and OMG I think I’m traumatized.

I even had a dream about him. He was about to kiss me; his baby blue eyes kept getting closer and closer. I turn my head and say, “No Jake! I’m married!”

See? Even in my dreams I’m faithful .

We didn’t get home till 1:00. After I took a shower it was 1:30 so it’s safe to say I went to sleep at around 2am. Not good. I feel so tired and drained out, especially since I somehow got a sore throat. Ricci didn’t come to school today, so it was really quiet on the way to school–I was positive I’d fall asleep on the road. And the fog! Never had I driven in such dense fog, ever.

We’re having a test on Chapters 1 & 2 of Operating Systems. I should read up a bit. I just hope I don’t fall asleep while I’m reading.

As tired as I am though, I really wish there were more nights like that with Mario .
