Yadira’s Get-together & Grandma Chelo

I’ve been hacking up a lung since I woke up this morning. I was feeling SO much better yesterday–there was the occassional nose-blowing, but that’s about it. Now, I can’t go 10 seconds without coughing. Doesn’t help I had Cheerios with sliced bananas and milk. The milk produces more damn phlem. My damn chest is hurting .

Mario didn’t get home from work last night till 3:30am! He normally goes in at 10am, but went in at 9am because he had an alarm to do. He did 6 of his own cars, finished his last one at 8:30, owner picked it up at 9 and then he stayed to help Jorge, Albert and two other guys finish up 3 cars the boss said they “had” to get done. So they stayed till 3am. That’s just horrible. And instead of giving them slack–and say, letting them go in a little later–oh no, they had to go in at 9am again. Grr. Poor Mario’s so burned out and it’s barely Tuesday!

Grandma Chelo, my Dad’s mother, passed away this weekend . I found out on Saturday, only because Dad’s ex- bitch mistress is the one who called to tell me. Well, she only has Mary’s number, not ours, so she called and gave Mary the message. I really don’t like her. I don’t know why she has to call when she’s not even family. Dad called yesterday, and probably didn’t call sooner only because he was so distraught. I feel almost guilty that I didn’t break down when I heard. Mario said not to be hard on myself as I hadn’t seen her in years, since I was about 12 or 13 I think, and we weren’t very close after that. I’m just glad she isn’t suffering anymore. I heard her last few years were an uphill battle for her . I feel terrible I didn’t get to see her, but in a way, I’m kind of glad I remember her as I do–she was a very strong woman–and not when her health was deteriorating.

Yadira’s birthday get-together was nice. The women sat around the table mostly talking about weight loss and other girly things. Mary made lasagna and salad, which was delicious. Mary used some cucumbers from Grandpa Dario’s (flourishing!) garden…they were seriously the most ripe, crunchy cucumbers I’ve ever eaten. He’s got watermelons and just about everything growning in his garden. I can only wish for a green thumb…I’m surprised the Ivy mom gave me is still alive!

After Yadira’s party we went to visit Tia Alicia and Tia Aurora, who’s visiting from California. Bless Tia Alicia’s heart, who said I looked much, MUCH thinner than the last time she saw me. I beg to differ, but I’ll take any compliments .

Well, Jaylen’s up and I have (more) laundry to do and REALLY need to clean out the turtles’ tank, so this will be all. Jackie’s gotten so big…she’s bigger than Squirt and he’s much older than her! I hope his growth wasn’t stunted for being the the tiny tank they gave Yadira .

Feelin’ Proud…and Lazy

I’m so proud of myself *beams*. I actually installed PHPClique to my Lil’ Mama Clique. I totally messed up the first try (I don’t even know HOW–it came with instructions!), but I started over and everything went smoothly. Now to add it to Nostalgic Sparkles (shameless plugs, I know ). I need to make a new layout first and convert to PHP. I’ll save that for some other day, though.

Eenan’s field trip was today. They went to watch Kicking and Screaming and then ate at Peter Piper Pizza. I was so worried, what with all the kidnappings that have been going on, but he’s here, in one piece and he had a great time .

Today’s Yadira’s birthday, so we’re gathering at her house for a get-together. I’m so exhausted. I was cleaning (or tried to) during the day and it didn’t help that Mario woke me up at 4am and then 5:45am to “cuddle”. The first time wasn’t happening because (and I’m not kidding) 2 minutes into it Jaylen woke up . It’s like those boys know when we’re about to canoodle.

We went grocery shopping yesterday and thankfully got all we needed and stayed within our budget. Mario’s paycheck is almost all gone, and I don’t even know how that happened! We didn’t even indulge in anything this time. I need to make a list of bills that were paid and our spending and see if it adds up *scratches head*.

Okay, I guess I should stop stalling and start getting ready. But I don’t wanna. I’m tiiiiirred!

My Weak, Weak Immune System

I caught the kids’ cold. Actually, I caught a cold that was even worse than the boys’. I got a fever, and chills–the works. I went to Mexico (Reynosa) with Mary and Noelia and the boys on Wednesday (got some birth control pills !) and shared a Dr. Pepper with Eenan. Sure enough, the next morning I woke up with a sore throat (they didn’t even get a sore throat!).

Mario had Thursday off and Mom needed to be picked up from her Opthamologist, where she was picking up her new glasses, so we went for her around 9:30. After picking her up, she treated us to lunch at Taco Olè in Mission. I ordered some of the best cheese enchiladas I’ve ever eaten in my life. Sad thing was I couldn’t even enjoy them since my throat was on fire by then. We dropped her off after that. I chilled out for a while while Mario napped and then I went to pick Eenan up from school. We were going to bar-be-cue that night so I got everything ready while Mario got the pit ready. I made what was possibly the best rice I’ve ever made, Mario grilled the drumsticks and ribs and marinated them in bar-be-cue sauce, we had baked potatoes smothered in cheese–everything was delicious, and of course, I couldn’t enjoy it .

The next morning I woke up feeling lethargic but forced myself to drop Eenan off. I ironed Mario’s clothes and then laid on the couch. He kept smiling at me sympathetically since he’s not used to seeing me thrown on the couch in a helpless heap. I didn’t even make him breakfast that morning–that’s how tired I was. I’m sort of glad in a way that everything hit me at once: runny nose, sore throat, cough, aches and pains–because I’m pretty much just putting up with the cough and phlem now (ick!). Usually, my colds last for days. I’m hoping this one’s over soon *crosses fingers*. I’m so grateful that Noelia brought me Day and Nyquil, Mary brought me antibiotics, Big Mario watched the boys for me most of the afternoon while I slept my cold off (I couldn’t stay awake at all) and then Mario brought dinner (pizza and breadsticks!) and movies. We watched Spanglish which I thought was really cute .

Today I just paid bills and went grocery shopping with Mary, Yazmin and the boys and then we watched Are We There Yet?. I was gritting my teeth at all the crazy things the kids in the movie did LOL. The boys actually sat through it. They’re getting better at watching “movie” movies; we couldn’t get them to sit still if we were watching something other than a cartoon.

Oh my gosh. I yawned and I can hear again! Wow, I had the volume on the TV on really loud .

Hopefully Mario will be home soon and we’ll go to the “new” Wal-Mart. We need to get house things. I hope the boys will be well-behaved. They’re on a sugar high since they stuffed themselves full with junkfood at their Nana’s and being in public with them after something like that never goes well.
