I Can’t Get No…Satisfaction

It’s 1:43pm. I’m bored. And my head is hurting. There’s young boys in the house and one of them screams every few minutes. Jaylen’s doing most of the screaming. He needs a nap. I’m going stir-crazy. We’re supposed to be going to town soon, maybe catch a movie, and it’s not happening soon enough .

I already went to the post office and got a money order to pay a bill. Mary deposited money for me at the bank. Oh darnit! I just remembered I need to go to the bank to cash Mom’s check. Drat.

I went to the Family Dollar nearby to get some trashbags that Mary needed. While I was there I got some bubble envelopes (can’t get any better than $0.50 a pop!), baby hangers for the kids’ clothes, and a plastic storage box for all my scrapbooking stuff that’s ALL OVER my desk. Get home, and realize the darn box is too darn small. Grr. Should I return it? It was only $2 . Yeah, I think I will and I’ll get one of those drawer-type ones in black to match the other one I have. I need some organization in this tiny place ! The clutter’s really driving me mad. It makes me want to run out of here screaming, that’s how messy it is.

I wonder if everyone will get together again tonight? We were up till after 12am (Mary, Jose, Elda, Mario and I and all the boys) talking about the Bible, family, and other random things. I’m so sleepy right now *snore*.

Hmm…there’s no point to this entry. My appologies.

Busy-ness & the Bottomless Pit

The boys dropped out. They don’t want to go to the Reading Program anymore, so we didn’t go today. It’s not that they don’t like reading; they just don’t want to do the reports that are “required”. I don’t blame them. I’m not going to force them to do something they don’t want. I have to turn in 3 of their library books. They still have one left to read. I do need to go back to get their pictures for the Fingerprints Kit. I paid $10 for those and I bet thier quality’s going to be craptastic, too. Grr.

Yesterday was a bustling whirlwind. I woke up late…about 10:30 or so, I think? Since I kept waking up from the thunderstorm that rolled in about 2am. I didn’t wake up because of the thunder–I woke up because the electricity went out and I was HOT. I hate feeling sweaty when I’m sleeping !

Anyway, Mario was helping Tommy with something, then he, Jose and Tommy worked on Big Mario’s indisposed truck. I ran around feeding the children, myself, the turtles, cleaning up here and there, and by the time I knew it, it was lunchtime. I made carne guisada and rice for them to eat, took John to get some applications for a job, got the kids ready and headed out to the library.

They were having Story Time and were going to learn about spiders. The librarian read them a book, then they brought a basket of pipe-cleaners, styrofoam balls, tissue paper and googly eyes so the kids could create their own spiders.

Jaylen's spider. The little growth on his forehead is tissue-paper-hair!

The kids had a few conniptions because “the paper isn’t sticking!” and “I need gluuuuue!” and “MOOO-OOOM! I can’t get the legs in!”, but after helping them glue, and cut and stab the ball, they were happy with their little spiders .

Eenan played Sorry! with two little boys and then we came home. I can’t stand how hot it is outside at that time (2-3pm). The boys hate putting on their seat belts because, “IT BURNS US!”, as Eenan says.

Mario and Jaylen took a nap and when they woke up it was time for their swimming lessons. They had a blast, as usual, but this time, Jaylen didn’t want to jump off the diving board. He’d done so well before–he was more willing than Eenan!–but not yesterday . They got little certificates for completing Session 1 . They’ll start Session 2 on Monday.

Eenan about to dive into his coach's arms, and Jaylen on the edge with his coach squeezing into a lifesaver.

Mario smoked a cigarrette at the park under a little pavillion, while I got the boys dried and dressed. When we get home, he says he can’t find one of the $20’s he had in his pocket. He was a bit upset and asked if, on the way to Mom’s (John and I were going to drop off some stuff), I could stop by the pool and ask if anyone found a 20. I tell him that, sadly, no one’s going to be that honest and return a $20 bill…not around here anyway. BUT, I went and checked at the park anyway.

I looked around the table he’d been sitting on and then scanned the grass. Sure enough, the bill was securely attatched to a weed, still nicely folded into fours. It obviously fell out when he took the keys out of his pocket. Thank you, God, for letting me find that money or else the husband would have been quite moody.

We left to Mom’s, talked for a bit with her and then Aunt Nora, then came home. Got here, then I went with Mario and Jaylen (Eenan was too busy having fun with the cousins) to Wal-Mart to find a 20-25 gallon aquarium for the turtles to have more room to swim in. (Had I mentioned we’re turtle-sitting Sammy and Brandon’s huge sliders? Well, we are. And they’re huge!) No luck. The only thing they had were 20 gallon tank kits–for fish, and they were upwards of about $75. No thanks.

A turtley conga line!

Since the kids didn’t have to go to the library and they don’t have swimming classes tonight I’m incredibly bored. Boredom leads to eating. I’ve eaten so much junk food I probably gained the weight I’ve lost in the span of a few hours. Bad Yajaira. Bad.

Snug As A Bug In A Rug

Yesterday was a pretty eventful day–meaning we got everything that we needed to do, done.

I woke up migraine-free, thank goodness. First thing we did was go to the storage unit to get the bed frame, headboard and twin bed box spring for Eenan’s bed. Mom isn’t using them and said we could use them for Eenan whenever we wanted. Since we took down Eenan and Jaylen’s bulky bunk bed about two months ago, we had Eenan’s mattress on the floor, so we decided it was about time we set up the bed.

After getting the bed stuff, we drove over to Aunt Nora’s to pick up John’s car so he can practice driving while he’s here. It’ll be much easier to get used to turns and the expressway where we live. Darn car wouldn’t turn on for a good 15 minutes until Mario messed around with something under the hood and then it roared to life. I drove home with John and Jaylen while Mario followed with Eenan in the van. When we got home he lectured me about how I was going 15 over the speed limit . Phooey.

Mario had a few things to do at work, so while he was gone I started on lunch. Beef tacos with the works, yum ! He got back and we started working on the bed. It looked really nice!

The kids had swimming lessons at 6 again, so we went. Mario got to catch up a little with Michael. Eenan did really well. Session 1 ends on June 9. We’re thinking of taking him back to Session 2–I think Eenan will definetly learn to swim if we take him to all the sessions. Jaylen wasn’t really doing what Michael was telling him to do, so Michael just played along and let Jaylen have fun. We’re not sure if we should take him back for the next Session or not, but I’ll ask Michael or Jorge if they think he’d do better. I’d feel bad leaving him at home with Mary while Eenan’s out having fun . I think we may take him back anyway. It’s only $15 for each of them. It’ll probably be the only thing they get to do this summer anyway, what with Mario working the hours he does and all .

After the kids’ lessons, we went to Wal-Mart to pick out a bed set for Eenan’s new bed. I really wanted to get Eenan this but we decided to check Wal-Mart first (since it’s much closer than Target), and if he didn’t like anything there then we’d go to Target. He picked out the Star Wars comforter and sheet set, which are really cute. Mario liked it so much he wanted one for our bed . Here’s what Eenan’s bed looked like when we were done:

Needless to say, he got a restful night’s sleep. He didn’t wake up once!

I really would have liked to have the shams for Eenan’s bed, too, but I didn’t see any at all.

We’ll be getting Jaylen’s little toddler bed a new set, too. We haven’t gotten him one in a while. I just dislike that they hardly have anything nice for toddler beds . He’s leaning towards the Spongebob Toddler Set. I just don’t like that the sheets are white!

All we got him was a new crib sheet, which is blue. We were getting him a microfiber Batman Pillow, but since we were using the self-checkout and the darn pillow didn’t have a barcode (just our luck!), we had to leave it behind. He woke up in the middle of the night and screamed, “My pillow! Where’s my pillow?!” Poor little guy; I felt so bad!

Gonna tidy up now and hopefully get a chance to surf the ‘net a bit more today. I have more laundry to do today. I don’t know what’s going on! Never have I had to wash so many times during a week .
