Perfect Timing

I learned today that we’d be getting our hours cut at work for the summer. I can’t say I’m surprised. We were told we could leave at 2pm today. I was a little bummed; but it’s only 2 hours less than I was already doing and leaving at 2pm on Friday? Heck yes, I’ll take it!

The morning went by fast, Michelle and I talked about our eating/exercises (which I’ve done none of since we started again), I covered for Rosie and then I met my love for lunch at Palenque Chicken, ’cause I’m awesome and had a coupon.

I had no idea what I’d be having for lunch; I wanted something not so fattening. I ended up getting a quesadilla anyway, since I felt rushed and panicked.

MMA Rudy was eating there, too. Jorge arrived and we invited Rudy over to sit with us and then 2 of Jorge’s co-workers got there. We joked and laughed. I hope they don’t think I’m weird because my sense of humor is much like Jorge’s and sometimes not so lady-like .

Rudy got his food and I was surprised and quite jealous when I saw grilled chicken and steamed veggies on his plate. Grr. I wish I’d known about that!! Now I know what to order for next time.

I got back to work and hung around 30 more minutes till I had to leave. I put gas in the van, since we’re going to Brownsville tomorrow to watch the fight and it’ll save us some time :). I can’t wait!

I got home and TOTALLY planned to just sit and blog and chit-chat on the Ol’ School Bloggers Facebook group. Can I just say how awesome that place and those people are!? Who would have thought we’d all get to reunite and catch up on each other’s lives! There are a few people whose domain names I remember and I’m sure I read a few but never really got to connect with the owner since I was sorta shy at the time, but it’s great to be able to now! Ah, technology. I want to hug you .

Jorge has been quite patient. I don’t think he truly “gets” the blogging thing, though he knows I’ve done it forever now. But when I have some free time I’m glued to my phone or computer, reading everyone’s comments on the group and attempting to finish up my queued blog entries and he just smiles and reads over my shoulder sometimes as we’re sitting down together watching TV. Well, I’m sort of watching, heh.

Of course, when I got home, I couldn’t JUST sit and play on my computer or else I’d feel guilty. I dunno. I’m weird like that. So I went into the laundry room and folded/hung/and put away all of this past Sunday’s clean laundry. Jorge is amazing and most of the time he does laundry all on his own, he just needs help sorting. It’s wonderful to have a partner that HELPS, you know? I was used to doing EVERYTHING while someone sat on his ass drinking a beer .

But anyway!

I swept up a bit, threw out the bathroom trash bags and then, finally, sat to blog. I started uploading more pics to Flickr, manually, because Javi’s friend took my charger when they came to visit, grrr! I have enough photos up to continue blogging now, though.

I heard some light thunder rumbling outside and checked the window. It had started to rain! I grabbed my laptop, a chair and sat in the porch. I love this porch. I love our creepy looking mesquite trees, the unruly bamboo trees, the birds chirping and the woodpeckers pecking for just a second before they fly off.

Rain and thunder

I wish I could have gotten a better photo . I would have gotten a photo of the trees, but the neighbor’s multi-colored house behind us is a little appalling, not to be mean. One of these days we’ll install an 8ft fence, heh.

So there. A blog entry! I real time! The rain stopped just a bit ago and the mosquitoes must have noticed because they’re swarming me . I think I’m going to go inside and attempt to finish up an old blog entry and cook something afterwards.

[edit 9:06pm] I never got around to updating the old blog entry, but talked to my kiddos (they’re with Mario till next Wednesday; we agreed on doing the weekly thing instead of the monthly. That would have killed me!).

Oh, and I did cook something!

Honey chipotle glazed pork tenderloin with sauteed asparagus & bacon

Honey chipotle glazed pork tenderloin with sauteed asparagus & bacon. This meal, per plate, cost about $4! This plate’s Jorge’s. Mine was more petite .

Jorge and I wanted to go out somewhere, but he’s tired so we decided to stay in. He’s watching Tron and I’m about to go remove my contacts ’cause they’re bothering me. Then I might just open up one of those pre-made Margaritas I have in the freezer (depending on what Myfitnesspal reports ) and catch up on a few entries. I could get on the treadmill now that I have some free time, but I really want to catch up!!

[edit 10:20pm] Jorge is asleep, and I’m bored, can you tell? Heh.

So I checked my log for today and these are my results:

intakes

So. I could have that Margarita and go over my sugar intake LIKEWOAH. Or, I just don’t have it and let the program scold me. Decisions, decisions.

And just as I suspected, I keep reading other blogs and never started on my old ones LOL.

…Jorge and I got some snacks: popcorn and Tostitos cheese and tea. As we’re walking through the hallway to our bedroom he says, “What does this Friday remind you of?” I say, “All the other days we’ve had snacks while we watch TV?” He laughs and says, “John’s apartment!” Awww!! He remembered! Good times <3.

Parade of Homes, Celosias, & Sock Puppets

Sunday, April 29th – We woke up around 10ish and lazily sprawled on the bed. We contemplated what we’d be having for breakfast (or rather, what I’d be cooking, heh) and we both decided: let’s go buy barbacoa!!

So we washed up, got ready and started the hour-long journey. We found a store about a mile away that had barbacoa. We wanted a cup of menudo, too, but by the time we got to the beginning of the line, we found out they’d sold their last large cup. Grrr. So we drove all the way to Mission where Jorge knew for sure that they had some. I was just praying that we’d find some before noon, which is when most places stop serving. But we went to Taco Ole and they did have some and although we had to wait a while. As we’re driving home I can’t help but remember that I hadn’t been logging my calories/carbs/sugars like I had been . And this breakfast would most definitely throw me over my calories…so maybe it was just better NOT to log them, heh.

Sunday Breakfast :)

Breakfast was delicious. Many people don’t like menudo, or think it’s gross, but I love it. The boys loved it and I had to scold mom to stop eating so much. “Your cholesterol!!” LOL. It’s not often we have barbacoa and menudo, so it was a nice change.

We did some stuff around the house and then got ready to go to the Parade of Homes. You follow a map to all these beautiful homes and get ideas, contact decorators, home theatre installers, pool installers, etc.; or apply to build, and so on. Some of Jorge’s work was being showcased and he wanted to see what the competitors were doing. I wanted to see his work and the décor. I LOVE looking at homes!

The boys didn’t want to go and asked to stay with Mom. Mom said, “Just leave them here,” so we told them it was fine since it’s something they probably wouldn’t enjoy.

We saw 4 houses I believe. They were all near the house. I was amazed by the decor in some and majorly impressed by the homes that had an entrance that would lead into a courtyard with a pool and then into the main house. Those were gorgeous. And the bathrooms in some? Holy shizz, it was like I’d died and gone to heaven. I’d post the photos of the 2 that I actually took, but they were crappy and weirdly angled since we weren’t’ really allowed to take photos :P.

I have to say I was really impressed with Jorge’s projects. I know he excels at what he does, but when you see it in person, it’s nothing short of amazing :).

And speaking of, we saw some of his competitors’ work; sweet Jesus. Makes you wonder if they left wires hanging out or hung screens/TVs wrong or left a mess in the racks just so they wouldn’t get business .

So we finished seeing the houses. Got wrong directions to another one, so instead we went to Ross to buy…who knows what. I don’t even remember. I do remember that we both got annoyed with the crowds and started snapping at each other. So we got out of there and we sat in silence all the way to Walmart, where we were getting some stuff for lunch. As we walk in Jorge says, “You want to look at the flowers?” and then I couldn’t be annoyed anymore, heh. We bought some Dwarf Celosias (which the girls fondly refer to as Lorax Trees. Eenan corrected us later: “They’re called Truffulas” :)).

We got home, made lunch, and later I planted my flowers.

My new Dwarf Celosias

When I stood back, hands on hips, admiring my work Jorge comes over and stands next to me. He says, “The neighbors must think, ‘Look at that woman, glorifying that stump'”. I turn and smack him playfully on the arm. “My stump is beautiful!” I say.

Monday, April 30th – We were surprised the next morning with breakfast at Denny’s with our boss. Michelle and I drove to work together and I had this baby:

Breakfast at Denny's

Totally didn’t even bother logging it into my calorie counter because, frankly, I DID NOT WANT TO KNOW.

We went back to work and I had a light lunch since I was still full from breakfast.

When I got home I did my usual ritual, which is walk through the door, hug and kiss the girls, go to my bedroom and then bathroom to change into comfy clothes followed by both girls, put my hair in a pony tail and proceed to the kitchen to figure out what to make for dinner. The girls brought little socks to me and begged for sock puppets. So I waited on dinner and brought out my glue gun, yarn, flowers from my scrapbooking stash, and buttons for the eyes. I got to work, cutting, sewing, gluing and they were thrilled.

By the time I was done with the sock puppets, I felt SUPER lazy. I didn’t know WHAT to make for dinner. I whipped something up, Jorge got home, we ate, the girls stayed with Mom while we grocery shopped and then we got home and unloaded groceries. I bathed the girls and got them ready for bed while my love made me his famous Margaritas. I put the girls in bed and joined him on the sofa, where he popped open a bottle of Shiner Ruby Redbird and we watched DVR’d The Voice.

Homemade mango & strawberry

Tours & BBQs

Sunday, April 22nd – Sunday is our cleaning/gardening/projects day but I’m really not sure at all what we did that day, heh. Ok, lemme see. I know I cleaned the house most of the day and juuuuust as I was about to sit and rest, the girls asked if NOW could we please make the Kool-Aid Play Doh?? I couldn’t deny them the Play Doh; they’d been patiently waiting as I’d cleaned.

We went to the kitchen and got all the ingredients out. The girls made grape and cherry scented Doh. It was super easy and much less messy than when we made the food coloring doh. AND they smelled great!

Justin and Jaylen were next. We’re pouring all the dry ingredients in and we realize we’re almost out of cream of tartar. I don’t want to go to HEB but I know we have to. Emily joins me and the other kiddos stay with Mom. The trip is quick and Emily didn’t have a small meltdown when I rejected several things she tried tossing in the cart, which is always wonderful!

We get back and the boys all make their scented Play Dohs. I know they probably won’t ever play with them again after that one time (because they only played with the 1st ones they made once LOL) but I love doing these little projects with them :). Here’s the video if you’d like to try this with your little ones :).

Kool-aid Playdoh

Monday, April 23rd – It was an early morning for all of us. I got ready, got the boys up early and we were out the door with plenty of time. Eenan and I talked a while and then they both passed out for about 15 minutes, my poor dudes. It always makes me so sad, having to drop them off and knowing I won’t see them for a week. I have to try my hardest to hold it together when I drop Jaylen off and he keeps looking back, smiling his little half-smile at me. When he finally gets to the door he blows me a kiss–discreetly, of course, as he is in 4th grade–and I blow him one back. It’s the worst feeling, ever, watching them walk away .

I drove back over here and went to work. My love called me when he was about drop off Aly for me and I wished her a good day. I only see her briefly on Monday mornings as I’m leaving. It’s too early for her to wake up when I’m going to drop the boys off. So Mom gets her ready for school and gives her breakfast and Jorge drops her off. Thank God for them both!
