Quentin’s & Chris’ Birthday

Sat., Dec. 6th – We woke up and got ready to pick up Mario’s pay check. We’re still getting used to him getting paid on Saturdays, but it’s even more weird having to wait for someone to call to let us know when someone will be at the office so we can pick up the check. Anyway, after cashing his check we went to Academy to buy Mario’s dad’s birthday present, which was a gun cleaning kit. Unfortunately, we found out later that he already had the exact kit…one that WE’D given him last year LOL. He exchanged it for bullets instead.

Mario asks me what I want for breakfast. I’d had some powdered donuts on the way to McAllen–which isn’t healthy at all, I know—so I wasn’t actually that hungry. He asked if I wanted Kumori—um, duh! You don’t even have to ask, just drive me there. We had some Cheese Kashi-age, which are really just mozzarella sticks in block form and I had my usual rolls, the Fiesta with no salmon skin and Mario had his Earth rolls. I couldn’t finish the rolls and John had just texted me how evil I was for going to Kumori without him so I took him our leftover rolls. When we got home, he and Jaylen dug in and finished them.

We got ready to go to Quentin’s (Sally & Pete’s son) 1st birthday. We all crammed into the Equinox, including Mom and Mary, and stopped at the Dollar General to get a cute card to put cash in. We got there late, about half an hour (which I hate) but we live all the way out here and it takes us forever to get to where we need to be.

The party was in their yard and the weather worked out perfectly. They had put up a tent with arts and crafts and had a moon jump, so my kids were very well entertained. Alaethia asked her Daddy-O to take her to the moon jump, but all the boys in there were really rough and hyper (typical 5-9-year-olds) and she got scared and wanted out. She spent the rest of the time in the crafts tent with Eenan or Jaylen or in her Daddy-O’s arms.

They had the kids break the piñata and Pete tried to give out brown bags so they could put their candy in but they weren’t paying attention. Once the piñata was broken though, they charged forward and almost stampeded him. He kind of just threw the bags in the air for them to catch and ran out of the way. Then he tells Sally, “I didn’t want to end up like the guy from Walmart!”

They took everyone in to Pete’s parents’ living room and showed us an amazing video Pete put together about Pete and Sally meeting, Sally’s pregnancy with Quentin, all the way till he turned 1 and included family interviews. By the end I was teary-eyed, it was such a beautiful video.

We went out and had cake after that, and since Mario wasn’t being such a good sport (he kept saying he wanted to leave—but when he’s at his friends’ houses and I go with him he expects me to sit there and not be bored, but anyway…) so we excused ourselves and said our goodbyes. It was so sad to leave, especially since Sally and I hadn’t really seen each other and spent time together. We watched Quentin shake his booty for a little while and then left.

I can’t remember what we did when we got home, probably chilled out, and then Mario left somewhere and called to remind me to get ready to go with him to Chris’ for his birthday bar-b-q and the De la Hoya/Paquiao fight. I’d completely forgotten, even though he’d been reminding me every day. I got ready in a hurry and we went over there. Mary stayed with the boys and Mom stayed with Alaethia since the temperature was dropping quickly outside. We had some awesome food and I sat with Yadira and later we went in with Nancy because it was too cold out for Matthew and Eddie Jr. We didn’t go back outside till the main fight started. Just about everyone was disappointed with De La Hoya’s performance but he had his time in the spotlight. That Paquiao guy was an animal! We didn’t get home till 2am or so and Alaethia was still awake. Grr. I didn’t end up going to sleep till around 3:30.

Sun. Dec. 7th – We woke up late and that’s really all I can remember from that day. (I’m updating this on Jan. 1st, so the details are a little blurry, heh.)
