Emily’s Pregnancy Timeline

1st Trimester

5 weeks, 4days:
June 6th: Felt nauseous at night and then craved Flamin’ Hot brand Hot Fries out of nowhere. Decided I needed to stop being in denial…I needed to buy a home pregnancy test.

5 weeks, 5 days:
June 7th: Took a home pregnancy test and at 4pm I got a plus sign. Took another one half an hour later and sure enough, I was pregnant! The boys are thrilled and are already expressing their love for the new baby. I was in shock and I must admit went through an emotional rollercoaster. Mario took it better than I did, surprisingly!
Starting weight: 124 lbs. (eek!…before my first weigh in at the doctor’s)
Ailments/Happenings: No symptoms, except for the bout of nausea the night before.

6 weeks, 1 day:
June 10th: Went to the doctor to get a proper pregnancy test done. Yep, I’m pregnant! I had my two test sticks and the a sheet of paper from the doctor and I still couldn’t believe it!
Ailments/Happenings: Started urinating a little more often than usual.

7 weeks:
June 16th: Had my first doctor’s appointment. Was given prenatal vitamins (for the first time ever they’re not chewable LOL). Had my first ultrasound done. They didn’t even mention my sugar being high or anything. Everything’s looking good so far. My EDD is March 3rd, 2009.
Weight: 126 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: Waking up twice a night to pee. No nausea, thank goodness. Breasts are very tender. HURTS to take a shower. Glucose has been really good.

The Teensy One

10 weeks:
August 6th: Gained about a pound and a half. Had another ultrasound done. Baby’s little arm and leg nubs are more pronounced and was actually moving around! Cutest thing, ever! His/her little heart was beating, so now it feels completely real! He/she’s measuring at 8 weeks, gestationally. My sugar was fine; my nurse, Laura, called me an inspiration because I’ve reversed my diabetes and have encouraged my mom to watch what she eats :).
Weight: 127.9 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: Waking up twice a night to pee. No extreme nausea; just had one bout a few nights before because I’d eaten (chili) too late. Breasts are still tender, but not as much as before. Fatigue is finally setting in–right when I’m going to start working again! Acne is sprouting all over my forehead and chin. Can’t wait for that to be over! Glucose has been really good.

My Gummy Bear!!

13 weeks:
August 27th:My glucose and blood pressure were fine. During the ultrasound, the baby hiccuped, waved its hands and kicked a bit. The Dr. asked what I thought I was having; I said a girl, mainly because all my symptoms and everything were exactly like my pregnancy with Alaethia–and he said, “I think you’re right!” But then he said, “Oh! Wait….Aha! It’s a boy!” I still feel as though it’s a girl, though!! Dr. gave me a sono pic but I don’t have a scanner at the moment. Will post it up soon, hopefully.
Weight: 130 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: Acne’s still sprouting…but not as bad as at the beginning. I’d been having a sharp pain in my right side behind my ribs at times and he said it may be my gallbladder. He told me to do some detective work and check if I got the pain after I ate anything spicy or greasy. He set an appointment for the Friday after that week, but I canceled it at the last minute because I suddenly stopped getting the pain right after that appointment. Got an awful sinus headache the day before, Tuesday, when I was 12 weeks, 6 days. Dr. prescribed meds that would “knock me out,” but they didn’t work at all; it lasted 3 whole days.
Cravings: Cucumber slices with lime, Tajin chile, and Louisiana Hot Sauce; Pepsi, Cookie Crisp cereal, trail mix (with peanut butter & almonds)

15 weeks, 6 days:
September 16th: My actual appointment wasn’t till the next day, the 17th, but I’d developed a nasty UTI so I went in a day early. Dr. prescribed some antibiotics, even though he said there was hardly any trace of infection, but I felt awful! My blood pressure and glucose were fine, even after having coffee for breakfast! The Dr. measured the baby and then tried determining the gender…but baby wouldn’t let us see! The little legs were crossed and he/she wouldn’t move them! The Dr. even jiggled my belly back and forth with the wand to wake the baby up, but it just wiggled a little and continued to slumber! Would go back in 2 weeks for the AFP, so we’d check again then.
Weight: 133.4 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: Acne’s not as bad, but still there. Still getting sinus headache’s every so often Hands start feeling itchy and kind of swollen when I’m standing too long or walking too much, which is weird.
Cravings: Cucumber slices with lime, Tajin chile, and Louisiana Hot Sauce; Pepsi, cheese danishes, ham and cheese Hot Pockets

18 weeks
October 1st: I didn’t gain weight in the two weeks since my last appointment, maybe just an ounce or two, which is great. I was hoping we could see the baby’s gender today! I was nervous. I still had a feeling I was having a girl, but I’d already prepared myself just in case it would be a boy. Dr. measured the baby’s head and bones and then he said it: IT’S A GIRL!! I asked him, “For sure, for sure?” and he said, “Yup, there’s her vagina!” LOL We are all so thrilled! Now we just need a name!
Weight: 134 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: Acne’s still lingering…darnit. No sinus headaches in the past few weeks. Told nurse about itchy hands; says it’s most likely my salt intake. Started feeling a little jolt of pain in the round-ligament area when I stand up from a sitting position too fast. Started feeling the baby flutter around on the 20th of September!
Cravings: Cucumber slices with lime, Tajin chile, and Louisiana Hot Sauce; Pepsi, cherry candy slices, nachos, watermelon

21 weeks
October 22nd: I gained 3 pounds in 3 weeks, which is fine, but I now weigh 137 lbs., which is 2 pounds more than I weighed when I gave birth to Alaethia! I was hoping we could see the baby’s little privates, but she had her legs crossed and wouldn’t let us see. Still, the doctor assured me she’s probably still a girl. I hope so! We still don’t have a name for her. I spent so much time reading that darn baby book and nothing stands out!
Weight: 137 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: Acne’s getting a little bit better. No sinus headaches. Baby is moving a little more. My glucose has been behaving itself very well :). Been feeling heart palpitations early in the morning and very thirsty. Very emotional, too.
Cravings: Cucumber slices with lime, Tajin chile, and Louisiana Hot Sauce; Pepsi, corn in a cup.

24 weeks
November 12th: I only gained a few ounces this time, so that was awesome! I had my glucose screening done on this day and flunked it by 9 points! It was supposed to be at 140 and mine was 149. Grr. I didn’t have to do the 3-hr. test because Dr. C. knows how weird my glucose is and he said, “You’re no diabetic, but I want to make a deal: keep monitoring yourself and we’ll be good.” So that’s what I have to do. Dr. C. did his measurements and she’s measuring 2 weeks less than my EDD, which is fine and she’s doing great. She’s still a girl!
Weight: 137.8 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: Acne’s gone! No sinus headaches. Having very strange, horrible, vivid dreams! One was of Alaethia turning into a horrible lizard creature and I hurt her 🙁 and the other was of the baby being born with her insides on the outside! (Dr. C. assured me that she’s fine.) Heartburn is awful. Even chocolate gives me heartburn!
Cravings: Spinach and artichoke dip from Chili’s, Pepsi, chocolate!

26 weeks
November 26th: I only gained 1 pound in two weeks, so I was now 138. She’s measuring well and my glucose was fine. I asked again to check if she’s a girl (yes, I won’t believe it till I see it!), but her little legs were too tightly crossed together. I did, however, get to see her spine and toes! Oh, and she’s already turned upside down! The earliest of all the kids (the other 3 turned over at exactly 28 weeks).
Weight: 138 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: I’m not having vivid dreams anymore, thank goodness. I had developed a cold and dry cough and was told to take Robitussin, but I got over it on my own anyway. Was admitted into the hospital the day after Thanksgiving (Fri. the 28th) due to horrible contraction-like pains (or worse, even). Turns out I was just a little dehydrated and was coming down with a stomach bug! Heartburn is still a pain.
Cravings: Spinach and artichoke dip from Chili’s, sushi (Fiesta rolls from Kumori), Pepsi.

December 16th: I had a horrible cold (I couldn’t even walk or get out of bed) and forced myself to go to the doctor and have my prenatal appointment a day early. The baby’s measuring at 27 weeks and I’m 29 weeks according to my LMP. I lost a few ounces, so I’m weighing 137.8, which is hardly any weight gain in 2 months :)!
Weight: 137.8 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: I developed an ear infection, sore throat and cough, so they gave me some cough medicine and antibiotics–turns out I couldn’t even use the darn cough medicine because it’s not allowed in the last 3 months of pregnancy (duh) so I just took Robitussin. I hadn’t felt that tired and unhealthy in a long time.
Cravings: Sushi (Fiesta rolls from Kumori), Pepsi, grapefruit juice.

Coming soon…

31 weeks, 5 days
January 5th: Gained a pound or two, which is great considering how much I glutted through the holidays. It was the fastest appointment I’d ever had! I was in an out in an hour. We’d decided over the Christmas holidays that the baby’s name would be EMILY! We’re still deciding on a middle name. Emily’s doing great; growing well and heart rate is great. Elizabeth, my nurse, told me she’d give me about 5 more weeks! I decided I’d be leaving work a week earlier than I’d planned.
Weight: 140.1 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: I’m peeing constantly now; about every 30 minutes to an hour. My feet are sore all the time, but not swollen. I’m also becoming full very quickly, probably from how big she is and how much she’s pushing my stomach up. I’m not getting heartburn as severely as I was, though.
Cravings: Sushi (Fiesta rolls from Kumori), Pepsi, grapefruits.

January 19th: Hardly gained any weight. I got to see Emily’s little hand wave. She’s growing beautifully. I was told I need to have an appointment with Dr. C., so he could do accurate measurements.
Weight: 140.4 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: I’m peeing constantly now; about every 30 minutes to an hour. Still becoming full very quickly. Heartburn’s coming back a bit. Emily’s constantly moving; you can literally see her making my stomach bob back-and-forth. It’s a wonderful feeling. I am so exhausted lately that I can almost sleep through the night, but wake up with a horrible pain under my belly from the fullness. I’m having to roll myself carefully to get off the bed.
Cravings: Sushi (Fiesta rolls from Kumori), Pepsi, shrimp, grapefruits and grapefruit pie!

February 2nd: I saw Elizabeth again, but saved myself a pelvic exam LOL. I had the Group B Strep (GBS) culture done, or whatever it’s called, but I got to do it on myself (since my good friend Laura was my nurse and it was too embarrassing LOL). They’re going to start seeing me every week from now on since I have 4 weeks left till my estimated due date.
Weight: 140.1 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: I’m peeing constantly…about every half hour. I’m not feeling full as much since she’s dropped a little. Emily’s very energetic. She must be so big in there that I can literally feel the shape of her foot against my belly; usually the left side. She’s feeling very heavy so it’s kind of hard to walk for long periods of time. My back hurts all the time now. Been “nesting” since Christmas vacation.
Cravings: Sushi (Fiesta rolls from Kumori), Pepsi, grapefruits and grapefruit pie! Spinach and artichoke dip that I haven’t gotten!

February 9th: I went in to the office in Mission since that’s where Dr. C. was today. I got an ultrasound done; everything’s looking great with the baby. Her head measured 36 weeks, so she’s right where she should be. Dr. C. did measurements and everything’s fine. Her head is firmly in my pelvis and quite low. I had a pelvic exam done and I’m not dilated or effaced yet. Dr. C. got the results for the GBS culture and I couldn’t believe it: I tested positive. He prescribed antibiotics, but my paranoid, hypochondriac self did research and I read you shouldn’t take antibiotics until labor or when the water breaks or the infection could come back once it clears. So now I’m wondering what to do with these pills. I need to call and be sure Dr. C. prescribed the right thing.
Weight: 140.9 lbs.
Ailments/Happenings: Feeling like I need to pee again as soon as I get up and leave the toilet; very annoying and sometimes painful. Very worried about this virus now. I hope Emily’s okay. She feels like she’s about to fall out and it hurts to walk most of the time. My back hurts all the time now and I’ve been getting those twitchy pains I got the week before Alaethia was born since last week. Don’t feel like nesting much anymore; now I just feel achy and tired. My boobs are sore once again. Still don’t have much of an appetite and get full really quickly. Could sleep all day.
Cravings: Pepsi, grapefruit pie, chocolate chip cookies (gonna make some soon made them!), pastries and breads, milk–lots of milk, spinach and artichoke dip that I haven’t gotten!

February 16th: Fastest, most pointless appointment I’ve had. It was really quick and all Dr. C. did was give me an ultrasound. Emily’s head is very much stuffed in my pelvis and he checked her heart, legs, and spine. He even showed me that she’s still a girl. I didn’t get a pelvic exam, which, even though I despise them, would have been nice to have since I’m feeling a little different down there and would have liked to know if I’m dilated. Oh well. I’ll run the questions I had for Dr. C. next Monday.
Weight: 138.8 lbs. (lost 2 lbs.?!)
Ailments/Happenings: Peeing all the time and waking up 2-3 times a night. Having “hot flashes” very frequently. Developed a YI due to the darn antibiotics I’m taking for the GBS. Feeling weird twinges “down below”. I’m irregular because Emily’s putting so much pressure on my lower region. My back hurts constantly and I can’t stand for long periods of time or my feet swell. My boobs/chest are sore. I could sleep all day.
Cravings: Pepsi, chocolate chip cookies, milk–lots of milk, chocolate, and spinach and artichoke dip.
