Bad Karma, or Just Bad Luck?

Well, after watching My Name is Earl, or whatever the correct name of the show is, on NBC last night (which I think is hilarious) I started thinking about Karma and all the people I’ve been evil to in my life. Although I do think the good I’ve done has out-weighed the bad, I’m starting to feel paranoid.

This morning was total chaos. Woke up a little late. I thought since I woke up at 6:20 yesterday morning and had more than enough extra time that if I woke up at 6:30 today I’d be okay. For some reason, I was in a hurry. Packed Mario’s lunch since he got home late and I didn’t have his lunch bag, Jaylen woke up early so I got his breakfast ready, got Eenan ready, and I don’t even know what else.

Ricci and I left the house and everything was going smoothly till we reached Mission. We saw people going off the road, into the grass median and into the Frontage road. There were TONS of people so I started to panic. Sure enough, about 100 feet in front of us there was a traffic jam due to a car accident up ahead. Ricci told me to go ahead and cut through the grass, and I had a really bad feeling about it so I sort of stalled, then went for it. All was fine until I had to pass over the huge curb…the bottom of the car made a huge screeching then booming sound–I thought for sure I’d broken something, but we went on since traffic was mad.

The Frontage road was no different from the Expressway. It was congested and moving at a snail’s pace. While we were slowly trudging along we notice we’re already in McAllen, and above on the Expressway there was yet another car accident. It felt like forever by the time we got back on the Expressway and got to school. We had to call Mrs. C-R. to let her know we’d be tardy.

We got to the school and I checked the car for any damage. Good news: I only dented the undercarriage (or whatever it’s called; I’m a girl, sue me!) on the left side a little. Bad news: my tires REALLY need to be aligned now. I swear that poor car’s going to fall apart because of my retarded driving .

I hope Mario got to work ok. I didn’t call him during my first break to warn him about the traffic jam. I know he’ll probably be pissed because for the 2nd day in a row I didn’t set the alarm correctly. It would really suck to get into some petty argument over something like the alarm. I don’t need it today !

I have to pick Mom up after we’re done here, then go see Gramma and then drop her off. I have a bad feeling because of all the madness from this morning that I’m PRAYING nothing odd/horrible happens the rest of the day. .

Mayra didn’t come to school today. What happened Mayra!?! Hope you’re okay.

Oh, and Rita’s now a Category 4…lovely!

Go Away, Rita!!

I’m in a bit of a panic right now. Been watching the news all day and it definitely looks like hurricane Rita’s making her way over here. So far it looks like it’s going more towards Galveston and Houston, but you just never know if it’ll go a bit more south. If it does, we’re screwed. This hurricane’s been in the water so long I’m afraid to know what category it’s going to be by the time it makes landfall. I feel so bad for the people who live in Galveston and Houston; and for us down here if it hits us. Maybe it isn’t such a good idea to be watching this documentary on the History channel–they’re mostly talking about hurricane Katrina.

So far, we haven’t prepared at all. Even with hurricane Emily we were at the Dollar General as soon as word was out that it would be here in a few days buying water, canned food and batteries. They say it should be here by Friday night and we haven’t done shit.

What if it does come down here and it’s a Category 3+? My in-laws’ house is wood-frame and over 20 years old, I feel sick just thinking about what might happen. Our apartment might make it since it was built just a few years ago, but their house??

I’m on the verge of hyperventilating. Oh gosh, and the flooding! I’m not talking about the type of flooding that happened in New Orleans, I’m talking just a few inches, maybe 2 feet of flooding. It floods REALLY BAD in front of our apartment and the back of my in-laws’. Just 2 weekends ago when there was a 30-minute thunderstorm John and I were out there sweeping the water out and frantically trying to pile up sandbags to keep the water out. We need more sandbags *bites nails*.

Gotta think of something else…um…started on Access today at school. It’s pretty interesting and not as difficult as I thought it’d be. We had an assignment, where we had to make up a company and employees and add them to a database and guess what our company name (Lucy, Rossy, and mine—Mayra, Ricci and Joe were in another group) was? 80’s Antiques. And I swear it wasn’t just my idea, Lucy was actually the one who brought it up . It was cool. We finished pretty early so I made a banner out of some of my collections pics. Can’t wait to see what else we’ll do.

I feel a little better. John’s making fun of me because I’m freaking out and publicly posting about it, but just wait. Just wait till the hurricane’s almost here—he’s going to turn inside out with paranoia and write in all caps in his blog. Ha!

Brain Fart…Can’t Think of Title

Friday was an interesting day. I kissed Mario goodbye in the morning and told him, “Thank God it’s Friday. It’ll be an easy day. We’re just going to study for our Final on Monday.”

Boy was I wrong.

The teacher surprised us by giving us our study guides back (I got a 92) and telling us we had two hours to study before we TOOK THE FINAL. We were stunned. She said she was making us take it that day since at least 50% of the class was absent on Monday. I bit my tongue, but after a few minutes of discussing it with the girls I decided to speak my piece. I told her it wasn’t fair that we got only a few hours to study just because of the people who were constantly absent. She said it wasn’t a punishment; that it was an extremely easy final and she was sure if we studied those two hours that we’d pass.

I didn’t care if it was easy; I was still pissed. I kept telling myself that if I didn’t pass with at least a 95, I was going to be furious. I studied like crazy for those two hours and Lucy and I kept quizzing each other every few minutes to see what we needed to study more.

We took the Final, and I got a 99. Yeah, that’s right. I would have broken my keyboard in half if I didn’t do well. I’d have gotten a 100 had I paid extra close attention and Bolded the months of the week in the assignment (stupid mistake). But wow, we’re actually done with Excel. We start Access on Monday. I’ve never worked with Access. I know it has to do with databases and that’s it .

I dropped Ricci off at home and since Mario now has his days off on Friday (yay!), we got ready and left to pick up his pay check. We deposited $315 for the car payment and a few other small things, filled up the tank ($28 now, and that’s because the gas prices have gone down a little), made our JC Penny payment, and paid Eddie for our brand-new JVC video camera ($100 for a $400 camera!). It’s been months since we went out to eat at a nice place so we tried Logan’s Roadhouse. Mario ordered two drinks, we got Mozzarella sticks, the kids got hot dogs and they drank two chocolate milks each. I got my food (which I didn’t really like) and a Coke (the waiter gave me a free Coke since I didn’t like the mixed-drink tea I’d gotten. I told Mario we should give him a nice tip since he was a really good waiter and he said, “Oh, so you like him now?” He kept teasing me about that the whole time we were there *rolls eyes*.) The bill came out to a whopping $54 . I’m so not used to spending that type of money at restaurants.

Needless to say, after paying our bills, buying stuff we needed around the hosue and a few groceries, and the extra “treats” we got this paycheck, we’re almost completely broke. Mario and I got really depressed about it yesterday. We both almost had nervous breakdowns. It sucks that we can’t even get or do a few extra things or else we’re totally broke. We also had this incident with the bank. Mom-in-law made a payment through our account which went through twice and of course had overdraft charges, so we’ll have to make our car payment late. Lovely! It’s really depressing.

We went to Jorge and Maggie’s that night and just talked about how everything sucks, about how Jorge is going bat-shit crazy since he’s bored out of his mind at home, and about how some people are taking advantage of the hurricane Katrina crisis. It’s always nice seeing them. Shame we can’t visit them more often .

As for this weekend, we’ve spent it exactly like I wanted to: doing nothing. I run so many errands and have a trillion things to do during the week, that spending the weekend at home sounded like a great idea. It’s been relaxing, except for the few fights the kids get into. I spent most of yesterday cleaning (which I REALLY needed to do) and then reading. I slept so well last night; hadn’t had a great night’s sleep like that in a long time.

I guess I’ve babbled enough for today. I need to write up a grocery list since we’re going grocery shopping tonight. I’m sort of dreading it. My feet are still recovering from all the walking around on Friday .
