When Bad Things Happen to Good People

I don’t want to say I’m having a shitty day because, God forbid, it could be worse, but things aren’t exactly working out .

First, my darn cable keeps going out. I don’t know what’s going on, but since last night the internet’s been all wacky. For a while I thought we’d gotten some kind of virus or adware or something that was making the computer run really slow (and just our luck, we need to buy a new Norton becuase this one’s about to expire). I keep having to unplug and replug everything and it’s getting quite annoying.

I needed to send out a letter for Jessica so I got everything ready to send out. I was going to use John’s car since Mario’s at work and Noelia’s not here–and the damn thing doesn’t start. I tried and tried to start it and nothing. Big Mario tried helping me turn it on and said maybe the float thingy isn’t marking the gas correctly and it needs gas. It shows that it still has 1/4 of a tank, but I don’t think it does .

I was going to ask Mary if she could take me (since I wouldn’t dare drive her huge van) but Big Mario tells me she’s with the cops next door at their apartments. There’s a couple in apartment 1: an 18 year old girl who’s confined to a wheelchair and is about 6-7 months pregnant and her husband, who’s 37. In apartment 2 there’s a newlywed young couple. Apparently, the 37 year old forced his way into the other couple’s apartment and tried raping the girl. He was all drugged up. Thankfully the girl got away, ran out the back door and across the street to her parents house (didn’t know they lived there). At the same time, her husband arrived from work. The 37 year old refused to get out of the house–he barricaded the doors. The 18 year old gets here when the cops arrive and is, obviously, hysterical. I feel so bad for her . The girl who was assaulted and her family spoke to the 18 year old and hugged her. She left, sobbing, to her mom’s house I’m assuming. When they finally got him out, they told Mary they also found drugs in the apartment. They brought sniffer dogs, of whatever they’re called, too.

I had a bad, bad feeling about that guy. From the first time I ever spoke to him (which was when he came over to ask about the apartment and was waiting for Mary) and he kept making small talk and asked, “You have a lot of sisters, right?”, I felt really uncomforable. I don’t even go outside to check the mail or throw the trash out–I let John or Mario do it–just to avoid having to speak/look at that guy. I wonder what they’re going to do to him? I just feel bad for his wife. They’re with Housing, so they’ll most likely kick them out. I hope the girl’s mother has a stable place for her to stay (but I really don’t think she does ).

(…about 30 minutes later…) Just got back from Mary’s. 2 guys (probably his brothers) and his mother were over there throwing all kinds of things out of his car. They even threw the girl’s wheelchair out and left it next to the trash can–wonder what that was all about? They got envelopes and stuff–drugs? I don’t know. The mom came back and Mary went over there and got the key from her. Supposedly her daughter-in-law gave her the key and she was only coming back for her lamp and TV. They’re blaming the 18 year old for all this (since she admitted he did drugs in the morning in the bathroom) and I’m scared for her. Shit, I’m scared for us! These are scary people. Mary put a restraining order on him–he can’t be near the house or the apartments. I’m afraid his “people” will get all pissed off because of that, or him even, and go psycho on us.

Anyway, wanted to take the boys to the library, but of course, the stupid car doesn’t work . We’re going to do absolutely NOTHING today and I don’t want to be here with all the crazies in the neighborhood.

Doesn’t help that I’m PMSing either…

Snug As A Bug In A Rug

Yesterday was a pretty eventful day–meaning we got everything that we needed to do, done.

I woke up migraine-free, thank goodness. First thing we did was go to the storage unit to get the bed frame, headboard and twin bed box spring for Eenan’s bed. Mom isn’t using them and said we could use them for Eenan whenever we wanted. Since we took down Eenan and Jaylen’s bulky bunk bed about two months ago, we had Eenan’s mattress on the floor, so we decided it was about time we set up the bed.

After getting the bed stuff, we drove over to Aunt Nora’s to pick up John’s car so he can practice driving while he’s here. It’ll be much easier to get used to turns and the expressway where we live. Darn car wouldn’t turn on for a good 15 minutes until Mario messed around with something under the hood and then it roared to life. I drove home with John and Jaylen while Mario followed with Eenan in the van. When we got home he lectured me about how I was going 15 over the speed limit . Phooey.

Mario had a few things to do at work, so while he was gone I started on lunch. Beef tacos with the works, yum ! He got back and we started working on the bed. It looked really nice!

The kids had swimming lessons at 6 again, so we went. Mario got to catch up a little with Michael. Eenan did really well. Session 1 ends on June 9. We’re thinking of taking him back to Session 2–I think Eenan will definetly learn to swim if we take him to all the sessions. Jaylen wasn’t really doing what Michael was telling him to do, so Michael just played along and let Jaylen have fun. We’re not sure if we should take him back for the next Session or not, but I’ll ask Michael or Jorge if they think he’d do better. I’d feel bad leaving him at home with Mary while Eenan’s out having fun . I think we may take him back anyway. It’s only $15 for each of them. It’ll probably be the only thing they get to do this summer anyway, what with Mario working the hours he does and all .

After the kids’ lessons, we went to Wal-Mart to pick out a bed set for Eenan’s new bed. I really wanted to get Eenan this but we decided to check Wal-Mart first (since it’s much closer than Target), and if he didn’t like anything there then we’d go to Target. He picked out the Star Wars comforter and sheet set, which are really cute. Mario liked it so much he wanted one for our bed . Here’s what Eenan’s bed looked like when we were done:

Needless to say, he got a restful night’s sleep. He didn’t wake up once!

I really would have liked to have the shams for Eenan’s bed, too, but I didn’t see any at all.

We’ll be getting Jaylen’s little toddler bed a new set, too. We haven’t gotten him one in a while. I just dislike that they hardly have anything nice for toddler beds . He’s leaning towards the Spongebob Toddler Set. I just don’t like that the sheets are white!

All we got him was a new crib sheet, which is blue. We were getting him a microfiber Batman Pillow, but since we were using the self-checkout and the darn pillow didn’t have a barcode (just our luck!), we had to leave it behind. He woke up in the middle of the night and screamed, “My pillow! Where’s my pillow?!” Poor little guy; I felt so bad!

Gonna tidy up now and hopefully get a chance to surf the ‘net a bit more today. I have more laundry to do today. I don’t know what’s going on! Never have I had to wash so many times during a week .

Bitch Slap of the Century

I hadn’t looked out the windows when I woke up, which was at 8:10am, but while I was making breakfast, which was at 9am, I noticed it was eerily dark out. Sure enough, thunder started rolling and rain started pouring down. Shortly after, the darn electricity went out, but only for a few seconds. Still, it was enough to knock the satellite out and the kids were terrified and bored (that is why I didn’t want Dish Network!). I put a DVD on for them (The Land Before Time, Invasion of the Tinysauruses) and I sat there, eating breakfast, bored. So, I turned the computer on and crossed my fingers that the power wouldn’t go out again. I hope it’s over now and I hope Mario got to work safely, too.

The boys’ lessons went well last night, for the most part. Eenan’s doing wonderfully; he can float on his back, is learning to kick while holding on to the wall, and is learning to pass himself around the pool–even the deep sides–so he can gain strength on his arms. Jaylen, on the other hand, was driving his coaches crazy LOL. The same coach that taught him on Monday, Jorge, was teaching him last night. Michael, Mario’s friend, wanted Jorge to teach both Eenan and Jaylen, since Eenan’s coach had another class with about 4 older kids. Jaylen wasn’t having it though. Jorge was teaching them to grip the wall and kick, and Jaylen wanted to be out “swimming” on the deep side and kept trying to get away. He refused to blow bubbles and kick, so Michael ended up taking Jaylen instead, and worked with him a little. Hopefully today will be a better day though. They’re sleeping very well at night since they’re so tired from all the swimming LOL.

I made hotdogs last night, since Mario had said he wanted some the night before. I’m not too fond of hotdogs, but had actually been craving one, so I had one. I don’t know if it was the hotdog or the sun that did it to me but I ended up getting really nauseous and then got a migraine. I felt horrible. I still had to wash dishes before I went to bed, so I recruited John to help me rinse. He complained the whole first half of the time we were washing dishes, then started making jokes. I kept laughing, which made my head pound even more, which made me get into a bad mood. Then, he did one of the things that bugs me to no end–he splashed water on my face. Something in me snapped. I gasp, turn to him and lay a smack on his face–soapy water and all. I kind of stood there with my mouth open like, “What the hell am I doing??”, and seeing the shocked expression on his soap-suddy face made me crack up laughing. It was kind of like when a Pimp smacks his “hos” with a baby-powder-smothered hand? Yeah, like that . He said I smacked him so fast he didn’t have a chance to react. We both laughed the whole time after that, and he kept saying, “Don’t Hulk out one me” LOL.

Later, when we were done with the dishes he asks, “Have you ever just smacked Mario like that for splashing water in your face?” I reply, “Yeah, but on the arm. He knows I hate that and does it anyway. But I’ve never smacked him on the face!!” We’ll be talking about this for weeks to come LOL.
