All About the Little Men

Friday was a pretty laid-back day for Mario and I. I took Jaylen and Eenan to school in the morning and spoke to Eenan’s teacher. When I picked Eenan up from school the day before he’d told me his substitute was a total bitch with him (though not in those words, LOL). Turns out she’s the mother of a student Eenan knows and who knows why, but she had it in for Eenan.

First, a boy kept bothering Eenan; writing his name over and over again on an invitation list. They don’t get along to begin with, but when Eenan had had enough, he scribbled his name off the list. Eenan was wrong in doing that but the boy kept insisting. When Eenan crossed his name out again the boy screamed and Eenan took the heat for it.

Second thing that happened was a boy named Rolando–who has the highest amount of books read in the class–went into Eenan’s desk and tossed his whole pack of notebook paper into the air. Eenan had no idea what happened; I asked him over and over again if he did anything to provoke him and he said no. So what does the substitute do? She asks them both, Eenan and Rolando, to pick up the papers. Rolando refuses to, so she makes Eenan do it himself. Eenan’s friend Christian is thankfully nice enough to help him. My question is: why the hell should Eenan pick it up if he had nothing to do with it???

I went to the teacher with all these complaints the next morning and she listened patiently. She told me she had a list of students that “misbehaved” according to the sub, but she’d speak to them individually. She said she’d especially speak to Rolando, since he was wrong and she’s repeatedly told them they should stay away from others’ desks.

I’m so glad she was so understanding. I asked Eenan if he was left out of free-time or if he wasn’t going to attended the Good-Life Celebration (a big festival they have for them at the end of each 6 weeks if they’ve behaved well in class and have good grades) because the sub told him he wasn’t going. He said no and that she didn’t mention anything about the Good-Life. Mrs. R. didn’t even talk to him about anything, which he was terrified she’d do. When I was walking him to the class in the morning before I spoke with her, she saw him and asked, “Where’s my Eenan? Are you hiding, Eenan? I know why you’re hiding.” But she was really cool about everything.

My poor boy. If I ever run into that bully of a woman or if she ever subs for their class again I’ll definitely have a word with her. How dare she pick on a child? Or choose sides with the kids, y’know?

I ran into Brandon and Elda when I was approaching my street on the way home (she didn’t have a car that morning) so I gave Brandon a ride to school and then came home. I sneaked back into bed where Mario was still peacefully sleeping and we slept till around 10:30. The phones didn’t ring or anything, but I kept waking up every half an hour since I’m so paranoid that I’ll be late to pickup the kids.

We were starving and Mario saw how tired I was so he suggested rushing to Whataburger while they were still serving breakfast. We had some delicious sausage biscuits and a cinnamon roll. OMG–I crave those rolls every single day. I want one right now! *drool*

The kiddos played in the room while we finished giving the bedroom doors and hallway entrance another coat of paint. Mario finally also closed up that 1×1 ft. square hole he’d made in the wall to accommodate the wiring for the surround sound. God it was ugly–I’m so glad he finally patched it up after what? A month?!

We picked up Brandon and Eenan after that and got all the kids in the car to drop off movie rentals and some junk at storage. The kids got a few (okay, more than they should have!) toys out of their bins since they took a bag over there of stuff that was old or that they didn’t play with anymore. We’d already fed the littlest ones fish sticks at home and Eenan wanted fish sticks too, but since Mario and I were starving we picked up $1 double cheeseburgers at McDonald’s (I ate so much junk that day!). And there was a hair or some kind of suspicious lint in our $1 fries. Why the heck do we keep going back there?! *gag*

We chilled out the rest of the day until around 7pm when Mario was going to pick up a drill Ricky was buying from a friend of Mario’s. I was bored so I went with him while the kids watched movies with Mom.

Since the guy was all the way in Weslaco we stopped by Jorge’s for a while. He told us about the headaches he’s been having and how the doctor told him to take it easy or he’d end up with high blood pressure. I told him we’re getting old since doctors are warning us about stuff like that already. These days you just can’t be too sure. It’s so scary :(.

We went through the “backroad”, which is Old 83, and found a gas station at the corner of Old 83 and Greene Road that had gas for $2.16. You can bet your buttons I told Mario to stop after stopping by his friend Manny’s so we could fill up the truck. That’s the cheapest I’ve seen it!

In my previous entry I’d written how I didn’t want to do anything all weekend except stay in with the boys. Well, that was out the window when Jaylen’s friend Karlyn invited him to his first non-relative-friend party! He was so excited I had to take him. He clutched onto that invitation all day yesterday and today LOL. I invited Mom and Mary to go with me and they did. We got ready then left at 1:30. We stopped by Target to pick up Karyln’s gift–a Bratz doll. My gosh, I felt the impulse to start buying a whole bunch of them for Alaethia; those dolls are so cute! I wish I had toys like that when I was little…darnit.

Mary got the kids some toys and I had the pleasure of putting together a Star Wars Lego thing for Eenan. I was feeling horrible for stupidly skipping lunch (I have no idea what went through me) so I was irritable, dizzy, shaky and HOT. I had the air conditioning on full blast and I still felt terrible. It’s so weird how hot I feel this pregnancy compared to the others. I didn’t feel this way till around 8 months with the boys.

We stopped by Michael’s and Bealls since Mary needed to return stuff and then went to see Gramma for a while. Then we lectured Eenan on how lucky is he to have all the things he does and that he needs to quit being a brat (he was throwing fits left and right for every little thing) on the way to the party. When we got there we got a call from Noelia that my friend Jessica stopped by. I know lots of Jessicas and she didn’t leave her last name so Noelia described her–it was Jessica M.! I can’t believe I wasn’t home when she stopped by. Wish she would have called though, so she wouldn’t have made the trip out here for nothing :(.

The kids had so much fun, even though Eenan was grumpy and whiny for most of the time we were there. Jason, Mireya and Brianna went also since Brianna’s Karlyn’s friend, too. I spoke with Karlyn’s mom for a while; we’d already met before I just can’t remember where. She said she *had* to invite Jaylen since she’s always saying he’s her best friend–aww!

The only ride they got on was the bumper boats, but they had so much fun. Jaylen was 3 inches too small to get on by himself (Eenan was exaclty 44″ and could go on) and they wouldn’t let me on since I’m pregnant, so Mary went with him. By the time the ride was over (and let me tell you, it was long!) all three of them were SOAKED. Mary’s mascara was running and everything LOL. Only two other little boys were in there with them and they were having so much fun spraying Mary, probably because she’s a lady LOL.

All 3 of the kids had so much fun hitting the Cinderella piñata. Eenan was the oldest there and ended up breaking it. He was hilarious though–I regret not taking video! He practically jousted her in the butt with the stick and then reached his hand in there and pulled the candy out. Everyone was cracking up. I need to upload the pictures I did take to my Flickr tomorrow. I must go now, as I have this warm, delicious cinnamon roll from Whataburger my love picked up for me on the way home from work <3.

Lightning Crashes

First things first: I wanted to ask you guys, my readers, if adding an e-mail notification script for comments and e-mail subscription for when I actually update my blog would come in handy for you? I don’t want to go through the trouble if nobody’s going to use it, or worse yet, if you do and it annoys you LOL. Let me know, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Man, Channel 4 wasn’t lying when they said there’d be thunderstorms all night. Mario and I fell asleep around 11:30 pm, only after joking around, being annoying to eachother and joking about how our apartment was going to end up like the Winchester House since we have windows all over the house, but they’re all covered up because of construction and remodeling. He was also half-joking that I didn’t care about his well-being since he has a sore throat and I refused to sleep without the fan. I wasn’t going to suffer like the night before–I ended up having to sleep in the living room with the fan on full blast since I was sweating up a storm (and yes, the central air was on). It’s just my pregnancy making me get hot flashes.

Anyway, I fell asleep feeling cool and relaxed (I’m not a bitch I swear, I pointed the fan to my feet so Mario wouldn’t feel it on his face) and woke up in a startled jolt around 2:15 to crashing thunder. Since I’m a very light sleeper, every single thunder would wake me up and it didn’t help that my eyelids must be paper thin since I could see the lightning with my eyes closed O_o. I kept an ear out for the kids since I knew at least one of them would wake up scared half to death from the thunder. Sure enough around 3am Eenan tip-toed into the room and whispered, “Mama, I can’t sleep because of the thunder,” and proceeds to climb over me to sleep between Mario and me. We hardly had any space to move around, but I felt so bad for him I let him stay. He’s always been terrified of thunder. Jaylen on the other hand is such a heavy sleeper he slept through the whole thing! Thank goodness, too. I didn’t know where he’d fit on the bed!

As for the weekend, Mario and I spent all of Friday running errands like crazy. Elda watches Matthew on Fridays so I only had Brianna, but Mom watched her while we did everything we needed to do.

We had to rush to Home Depot, again, before we picked up Jaylen and Brianna to get some trim for the doors, 1/6 planks for the frames of the hallway entrance and the kids’ closets, paint, nail-gun nails, another door-knob, and I forget what other miscellaneous things we needed. Total cost: $260. Ho-lee-shit. Needless to say, we won’t be using that credit card anymore, no matter how much we “have left” on it.

Mario was a total turd to me that day. He was annoyed from the minute he woke up and kept taking it out on me, especially at Home Depot. He kept rushing me about adding measurements faster for the wood and kept stomping and huffing and being a big baby.

We got home on time to pick up the kids and left Brianna with my mom while Jaylen, Mario and I went to Target to get the games we’d promised the kids for good behavior. Jaylen picked out his, we got the one Eenan wanted and I whined about how I wasn’t going to be able to buy the amazing $104 4-in-1 crib I wanted from Target. I was going to use the credit card, but I restrained myself and we just left (we’re trying to get our credit cards paid off). Mario promised we’d get all the stuff we needed, no matter how much it cost. It just pained me that I could have saved $30 on it!

We picked up Eenan and Brandon, where Mario finally got on my nerves and I cried and told him off. I felt so embarrassed crying at school (hopefully nobody noticed) but I was so fed up and frustrated. He finally got the point and shut up.

Mom stayed with Eenan and the other kids while we deposited money at the bank, picked up a Miter Saw my dad-in-law was borrowing from his friend Ricky, bought some pork ribs for Mario and his dad to bar-b-q, then stopped by at Stars where I picked up a burger since I hadn’t eaten since 10am and was starving. When we get home Mario made himself some Jalapeño Tuna and said he didn’t get a burger since he didn’t want to waste money. I rolled my eyes, since he constantly buys cigarettes and buys beer every-so-often. He did every little thing he could that day to upset me and it didn’t stop later on while we were outside with our parents during the bar-b-q. I could have rung his neck.

He was finally in a good mood later that night while we were watching Take the Lead. He noticed I had my hand on my belly feeling the baby kick so he put his hand in place of where mine was. He finally felt the baby kick! I’ve been feeling her for awhile now, about a week and a half, but he hadn’t. His eyes widened when he felt her. He probably realized, as I did when I first felt her, that this is for real!

My dad-in-law worked on the trim and doors for our rooms and hallway all of Saturday morning. Everything looks SO NICE. I especially love the hallway entrance. All we need to do is buy more joint compound to fill in the nail holes and finish painting. Woo!

Moulding

Mary got home from work (she actually had to go in on Saturday morning!) she called me over to her car so I could check out some baby things Norma C. had sent over in case I wanted them. I found that kind of strange, but went out anyway. I was so shocked to see my dream crib in her car! She’d told Mario not to let me buy it, to try anything he could because she wanted to get it for me :). How freaking sweet! I can’t wait till Mario puts it together!

Mom and I went grocery shopping at around noon, where I only spent $70 on a whole bunch of groceries and Mom bought me a whole bunch of things I’d been craving. She’s really into the superstition that a pregnant woman should always get a taste of something she craves, and hell, I’m not complaining LOL.

We rushed home and put everything away since I needed to meet Mary and the boys on time to go to the movies to watch Everyone’s Hero. It was a really cute movie. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it, but I honestly did. Next, the kids want to watch How to Eat Fried Worms. 😛

I don’t remember much from yesterday, except that we were lazy till 11am and actually got to sleep in (Mary had the boys). We went to Leo’s to get some tacos and muffins and just enjoyed our ridiculously fatty breakfast. At around 1pm everyone got here for Jose’s (belated) birthday celebration. Elda made Posole and it was good. Annie didn’t come over because she was hurt about something that happened last weekend. Always some kind of drama.

We stayed over there talking till around 4pm, and then Mario and I went to rent more movies and make a payment. We didn’t end up watching anything, but at least that gives us something to do when he gets home from work and we’re kid-free. I didn’t have to watch Matthew this morning so instead of sleeping, I swept and mopped. I need to eat lunch right now and then I’m organizing my bedroom. I’ve been so caught up with the kids’ room I’ve totally neglected ours.

It feels so fresh in the house (as opposed to how hot it feels even with the air on) and it feels great outside. I love rainy days :).

Mom’s 57th B-day & Back to School

Well, I just did the stupidest thing I possibly could have. I somehow refreshed the page and lost MY ALMOST FINISHED ENTRY!!!

Argh. Like I’m not having a crappy morning to begin with!

Anyway, Mom’s birthday get-together on Sunday was nice. We left early (okay, around 11:30, so not-so-early) Sunday morning to pick up all the stuff we were going to need, plus groceries for the house and the rest of the kids’ school supplies. We didn’t find any of their stuff at Wal-Mart and I was so ready to go yell at someone from the district for adding stuff to their lists at the last minute.

We got all the food at H-E-B and thankfully found the rest of their school supplies there! And they were really inexpensive, too. Mary was making broccoli rice and her famous salsa for the party and I was making guacamole dip, Frijoles a la Charra, carrot cake (one frosted, one not) and Mario was taking care of the fajitas, chicken and sausage on the grill.

We got worried once 6 o’clock came around since the plan was to have the food ready by 5 so everyone could eat by 5:30, but no one was here! Finally, at around 6:15, Sally and Joe arrived, then Mary (she was at a bridal shower), and then Yadira, Tommy and their kids. Mario was a great host and Joe felt really comfortable around Mario and Big Mario, so that was great. Sally, Mom and I talked about weddings and our Mom’s bad health and then we went outside with the men and talked about cats, dogs, ticks, hunting and other stuff I can’t remember at the moment. Mom had a good time, which I’m so relieved about LOL. We talked with Yadira and Tommy and Chris and Nancy (who arrived later) and then we got the kids into the shower at 9:30. I knew it was pretty late and that I probably wouldn’t have them into bed till 10, but they were mindful and fell asleep by 10:05.

I woke up nauseous the next morning for the first time this whole pregnancy. It was a mixture of fear that I wouldn’t get them ready on time, that Eenan would hate his class like last year and that Jaylen would bawl his eyes out–that last one had a knot in my throat already.

They woke up pretty quickly and the morning went without incident. Mario accompanied us, since he loves to be there on their first day, and our first stop was Eenan’s class.

He walked right into his classroom without so much as a goodbye LOL. I signed him in and then called him over to give us kisses. He’s pretty excited since one of this good friends from Pre-K and Kinder, Brianna (or Brenna, one of those), is in his class this year, plus some other ones he told me about after school.

Next was Jaylen. He was calm and just taking in his surroundings while I was signing some MORE papers for him. I took him over to one of the tables where kids were sitting and he sat down. A little boy, Arick–who just so happens to be a cousin we didn’t know about, was crying his little eyes out. I kept seeing Jaylen stare at him, so I distracted him by talking to him and asking him if he was enjoying the Golden Grams cereal they’d given all the kids. He seemed pretty happy, but I just couldn’t walk away! I kept telling him, “It’s okay, Baby. We’ll be back at noon, okay? Don’t worry!” Mario had to squeeze my shoulder and practically pry me out of the class. On the way to the car my hormones completely took over and I bawled my eyes out. Yup. I cried. I didn’t even cry when Eenan went to Pre-K, but I did have a knot in my throat and I wasn’t pregnant O_o.

Jason had called Mario when he and Mireya went to drop off Brianna (our little cousin who I’ll be taking care of) and said Jaylen was a little teary eyed, but he calmed him down. Jason said it was probably all the little kids that were crying that scared him.

Mario left to work as soon as we got home. I kind of just sat here, going deaf from the silence. I hadn’t heard that kind of silence in years and it freaked me out. I’m so used to hearing a little voice say, “Can I play with your hair?” “Can you lay down with me?” “Can you color with me?” It was weird. I played Bejeweled for a while on the computer, then spoke to Mario on the phone, who called because he knew I was probably bored out of my mind. After we hung up I ran a few errands then picked up some boxes so I could pack up the thousands of books the kids have, plus other junk that’s sprawled all around the bedroom. I cleaned a little bit and by the time I knew it, it was time to pick up Jaylen and Brianna.

I got there at 11:20, since they should get out at 11:30, but they didn’t get out till 12. One little boy walked down the hall and happily declared that he had “Burger King” at school LOL. Another little girl, whose yellow t-shirt was tear streaked, was sobbing and told her Mom she wanted to go back to Daycare, aww :(. Seeing that made me really nervous about how Jaylen would be, and then I see he and Briana turn the corner and they’re walking together and chatting away. It was the cutest thing!

They were pretty good. I cleaned up and put books into boxes while they played the Game Cube, colored, had snacks, had drinks, played with toys, colored, and watched TV. I sat about half an hour during those 3 hours, and it was when I was having lunch. At least I’ll stay active throughout the pregnancy LOL.

When it was time to pick up Eenan I packed the two kids in the truck and Mom came along for the ride. I went through the usual Pick-Up line and to my surprise the gate was already open and there were only 3 other cars in sight. I found that strange and called the school. They have another new Pick-Up station this year and it sucks even worse than last years. I ended up having to park at the very end of the semi-circle drive way and then it started to POUR! It was totally unexpected. Thank God I had an umbrella in the truck.

They were so unorganized that it took forever to get the kids out of the front hallway. It was already 3:40 by the time Eenan finally emerged from the door. He had a good day though, so I’m glad.

Brianna was picked up at 6 and she didn’t want to go home LOL. Getting the kids to eat dinner, take showers, and brush their teeth was much easier last night, thank goodness. Jaylen was asleep by 9:35 and Eenan was rolling around in bed till 10, but when I walked in at 10:10 he was already asleep. Mario and I tried watching Scary Movie 4, but were so tired we stopped it halfway and went to bed.

Eenan was giving me a little trouble in the morning, but Jaylen was fine. I discovered that we’ll have to buy him almost a whole new warddrobe of shorts since the size 5’s we got him are too big and have actual buttons instead of snaps. We’re afraid he’ll have an accident because he can’t unbutton fast enough.

I scarfed breakfast down as fast as I could and got the boys in the truck. Eenan, my big boy, didn’t even let me walk him to his class. He gave me a kiss and then we walked to Jaylen’s class.

He did so good, I got him in line and then they started going in. He kind of threw his backpack on the floor and then it dawned on me that I hadn’t written his name anywhere on his backpack. I start looking for the Sharpie I had in my purse and darnit, I’d forgotten it. I looked through the window to see what he was doing and he was getting his PB&J sandwich and orange juice (yes, my kids eat breakfast twice, at home and at school LOL). He sat down and then I see him blink away tears–he was starting to freak out again since there were 3 kids crying in the class. He looked out the door and I tried hiding but he saw me. He ran to the door and said, “I forgot to give you a hug!” so I gave him one. When he was half-way to his table he ran back and to my horror he was crying. I tried calming him down for about 10 minutes and nothing worked. Finally, this rude bitch (I don’t even know why she was in their classroom) tells me, “Next time you need to leave quickly. You all make it worse if you stick around.” I said, “I’ll keep that in mind,” and watch them drag Jaylen away from me. It was heart breaking. I could hear him (and about 10 other kids) screaming when I turned down the hallway. I hope he’s doing alright right now :(.

Like I didn’t feel bad enough already, Mario didn’t eat the breakfast I made him (French Toast). Grr. I told him I’m not bothering tomorrow morning.

It’s 10:38. Need to get some laundry done, wash dishes, and pack up some stuff before I pick up the kids. I would have gotten started much earlier except this stupid thing messed up on me. I need to get happy and change my attitude. I had a feeling when I woke up that today would suck–I need to change that :(.
