The Best Week, Ever!

The title says it all :). I’ve been having the best week in recent history.

Thursday night, the 8th, I had to work late. My feet were killing me because I made the mistake of wearing heels ALL DAY and I had to run errands for the event that night. Walked around 2 H-E-B’s buying last-minute stuff.

I missed my kiddos (I wasn’t going to La Joya till the next day since the boys were going to stay over there Friday night and I’d be going back Saturday morning). I miss the Christmas/summer vacation so that I could keep them Thursday night into the weekend :(. I’d been really stressed all week and so had Jorge. In fact, that night he had some pretty worrisome news for me. We got home and lazied around. Michelle and the gang had wanted us to go out with them that night, but I really wasn’t up to it. Typical woman, I didn’t have anything to wear and the cold, almost drizzly weather was making me lazy and sleepy. We really have become homebodies. We watched the results for XFactor and then Michelle texted. I always tell her we’ll go out and never do. So, my babe and I both decided it would be good to for us to do something to distract ourselves. Plus, the drinks would be cheap so we wouldn’t feel guilty about that, heh.

We met everyone at Alhambra, then headed to Vintage and Peacocks (where we met Junior, Rolie, Cassandra, Rudy and Irvin). We were quickly getting tired (viejitos! Heh), so we said our goodbyes and came home. It was fun being out with my babe and our friends. It was even better getting home and resting LOL.

Jorge & I at Alhambra :)

I got to work and had some early morning…drama? I guess you can call it. Not related to work at all, or my relationship. But I got it taken care of and received some fantastic news!

I had dinner with the babies that night at McDonald’s . Jaylen had UIL in the morning and Eenan had a project he still hadn’t finished (grrr) so the boys were staying the night over there and I’d be picking them up after Jaylen’s UIL meet. The babygirls came home with me :).

When we got here, we got in our jammies, made popcorn and had some of my favorite sour Lifesaver red gummies. We picked Gnomeo & Juliet on Netflix and cuddled on the sofa. And promptly fell asleep.

Jorge woke us up around 12:30am. Alaethia had wet the sofa cushion LOL. He took the girls to their beds and I cleaned up Alaethia. He quickly put the sofa covers to wash and we went to bed :).

We had breakfast and got ready to go to the grand opening of the new library! I love that it’s so close to the house ♥. Some of my favorite memories from childhood were spent at the library. It was my distraction when shizz hit the fan in my teenage years, too. I was really sad when they were closing the old library, but it’s pretty cool to know our Creative Art Incubator will now be in that building!

We left around 10:30. It started at 10. It was drizzly and cold and there was absolutely NO parking. The boys called as I was circling the parking lot and asked me to pick them up. I went for them, we got to the house and had bathroom breaks and then continued to the library. By this time, it was noon. We missed all the giveaways but the kids had fun in the new on-site used bookstore. They all got great books for $9 total.

We went to the Magic Dork magic show in the auditorium. The kids were amused, thank goodness LOL. They spent a little bit of time in the computer lab and then I took the girls to the amazingly huge children’s section.

At the McAllen Library Grand Opening!

Boxing Champ Marquez was supposed to show up, but I didn’t feel like waiting around in the enormous crowd so we came home. We were all getting hungry so I made us a nice, simple lunch: grilled ham & cheese with tomato soup. Perfect for the weather!

Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup :)

We chilled out at home the rest of the day. It was really too ugly outside to do anything. The girls and I organized their room after they brought out just about every toy they own, heh. I cleaned up around the house after that and then my babe got home with the boys :).

We ate and then all found a comfy spot in the living room and watched Tangled. It was such a cute movie! I hadn’t seen it :).

We put all the kiddos to bed early that night. The girls willingly slept in their bedrooms and stayed there all night ♥ :).

We decided maybe it wasn’t too smart of us to have put the kids to bed so early. They were all awake by 6am !!

I got up and made the kiddos pancakes and omelets for mom, Jorge and I. John got here about 10 minutes too late LOL. He got to have pancakes at least.

We spent the day chilling with John and spending time with the kiddos. My babe went to HEB around 2pm to buy stuff to BBQ with. The darn fire kept giving out so the food wasn’t ready till 5 o_O. We each got ready to take the kiddos back to their other house (hate that). I had a little chorus of kids singing Rolling in the Deep on the way over there .

I put Emmos to bed as soon as we got back home. Read her a story, sang “Morning Lullabies” and she was out like a light :). I love that I tell her, “I’m in the room next door and the monitor’s on. Call me if you need anything, ok, baby?” And she’ll sleepily say, “Ok, just leave the door open. Love you, mommy.” :*)

Monday started off not-so-good. Jorge and I were running late and I wasn’t sunshine and rainbows on the drive, at all, heh. I was late to the Monday Morning Meeting, which is a big no-no, but the boss didn’t tell me anything so *whew*. My babe brought me a cappuccino so that made my morning even better I was on pins and needles all day, because I was expecting some news. I spent most of the day praying. I meant to eat lunch at work, but I needed to get away for a bit. I didn’t want to have anymore time to think or I’d go crazy, waiting. So I met my love and his co-workers at HEB Plus and had my usual 1/2 turkey panini and tortilla soup :). It’s hilarious eating with them; we share domestic stories, heh.

I realized they had the Princess dolls on sale, so I went and got two, one each for the girls. My babe walked me back to the car and I went to work. It wasn’t 15 minutes that I was there that I got a call to go downstairs. I knew what it was about. It was the news I was waiting for…and it was good!! I almost bawled right there. I gave my co-workers the update and they were all thrilled for me :). My boss even gave me a high-five, hehe. I was floating on a cloud the rest of the day!

I was notified that I’d be attending a press conference that afternoon. Boxer Juan Manuel Marquez would be presented an award from the City and I’d be the photographer :D.

I got tons of good pics, video about him possibly fighting in the City (wonder if it would happen?!) and then I got to take a picture with him!

Boxer Juan Manuel Marquez

I picked up some tamales from Delia’s that we bought for a fundraiser and then waited a little bit for my babe. We got home and ate and spent time with Emmos and then I put her to bed. She’d been doing great with sleeping in her room again…but sometime around 3:30am she escaped to Mom’s room LOL.

The next day was the same old at work. I spent most of the morning replying to emails (in Spanish) and then I met my love at Dai-Tung. It was cold and drizzly, as it usually is when we have lunch together at Dai-Tung LOL. As we’re walking in, we saw someone we knew, from our past, I guess you can say. The look on her face was priceless. It was amusing :P. We ate and had a good time and then it was back to work. I had an extra hour, so I got home early and found Emily’s & Alaethia’s hardcover books had arrived :). It was a great deal, 10 for $14.99!

My babe was feeling sick so I made some “Shortcut” Chicken Veggie soup, super easy. 2 cartons of chicken stock, 2 cans of chicken breast, frozen sliced carrots & zucchini, canned mushrooms and diced up fresh tomato, onion, green peppers and celery. It was GREAT, even Emily loved it :).

"Shortcut" Chicken Veggie Soup

We went to Walmart to get a few things after that and rented a movie, I believe it was either Bad Teacher or The Change Up. We put Emily to bed and had munchies and just relaxed and watched the movie. And we both stayed awake!

I had a lot to accomplish the next morning as I was only working half a day. It’d been brought to my attention that I still had 4 vacation days left. WHAT?! AWESOME!! Too bad I couldn’t take all of them back-to-back .

I was about to leave at noon when my boss texted (he wouldn’t be in till Monday) and asked me to run to City Hall and pick up a letter that needed to be expedited LIKE, YESTERDAY. He remembered I was taking the afternoon off so I had a co-worker run it for me.

I made the mistake of skipping breakfast and was shaking badly by the time I left work at 12:35. Got home. Sat with Emmos at the table and ate. And did research. And realized I had a lot of stuff I needed to take care of. So there I go. Type. Library. Print. And run errands.

We visited Gramma after that and then Mario picked up Emily. I picked Jorge up at work when he got out and we had leftover tamales, sat down to watch XFactor (Melanie Amaro singing “Feeling Good” was EPIC).

We were being chiflados and went to the store to get munchies. I can’t remember what we watched, but we glutted on teas and sour gummies, Flamin’ Hot fries & beef jerky. We’ll eventually start working out again :P.

It was very quiet at work Thursday. A lot of co-workers were out on vacation. I went to visit Evelyn, one of our loyal volunteers, at the hospital with my old boss. It was initially going to be a bunch of us singing Christmas carols to her to lift her spirits (she’s been in the hospital almost 2 months), but plans fell through so it was just us. I was afraid to see her how Michelle had described her, but thank God, she was doing much, much better!

I got out a bit early, went to Old Navy to use a coupon to get the girls their scarves they’ve been asking for since last year and a sweater for Alaethia. $22 down to $12, yeah baby!

I went to pick up the kiddos and as I was getting to the house Jaylen texts if we can go to his Winter Festival. I say sure. They pile in the car and we go to Family Dollar to buy a candy so I can get cash out. I ran into Maxine and we caught up a bit. And then I ran into my old boss, Mrs. Vela!

When we finally made it to the festival it was already dark. And packed! The kids couldn’t figure out what they wanted to do and then Jaylen said he wanted to go to the cake walk. So we go. Alaethia is sweetly standing beside me, trying to pick out her friends in the crowd. Eenan is feeling nostalgic and saying hi to all his old teachers. He runs into a few friends from school, too. Emily keeps going back to the chairs at the cake walk, where Jaylen is waiting for more people to join so they can start. I keep telling Emily to come back and stand with me, since she said she didn’t want to play and I hadn’t given the teacher in charge a ticket. During this time, Eenan runs back to me and hides behind my arm. He whispers, giggling, “Mom!! I’m so embarrassed!! I feel so stupid!!”

I ask him what happened and he says, “I ran up to that lady thinking she was you and I went, ‘squish, squish, squish’ to her arm!!” Of course he demonstrates what he did, which is when he comes up to me and pinches the soft part of the back of my arm and pinches it three times while saying “squish, squish, squish”. Drives me INSANE LOL. I’m assuming he’s doing it JUST to pinch my arm, and tell him, “EENAN!! QUIT THAT!!” He says, “No Mom, really. I pinched that lady,” and he points to her as she’s turning around. She’s laughing, and says in Spanish, “I had no idea what was happening!” LOL. Hilarious.

As I’m laughing with Eenan I realize there’s more people at the cake walk so I tell Emily to come stand with me. She says, “In a little bit, Mama!” I tried to put my phone in my bag while balancing all the stuff I was holding in my hands. I looked down for 2 seconds and I hear Emily scream. My heart’s already slamming in my chest when I notice she’s on the floor. She’d tripped, I don’t know on what and she hit her forehead on the ground. I drop everything and pick her up. She has a small cut above her eyebrow and a bump. I’m panicking, I have no napkins and she starts bleeding like crazy. I’m infuriated because the two teachers in charge of the cake walk just stood there and didn’t bother to help, didn’t bother to call someone or see if I needed anything. The kids ran to get napkins and ice and I carried her and tried consoling her. It was so scary and I was seriously contemplating driving straight to the hospital, but her swelling went down pretty fast and she stopped bleeding. We even did the “how many fingers am I holding up” thing and didn’t let her fall asleep.

She wanted popcorn, so we got 2 and the kids spent the tickets on drinks and food. And Jaylen ended up winning a cake after all, heh. We decided to go after that, and just in time, too; it started to drizzle. But not before running into more people we knew. You run into EVERYONE in that town.

We went to pick up Jorge, where all the kids took turns making sure Emily was awake. I love those kids! It’s wonderful how much they care for each other (even though most of the time they’re fighting like cats and dogs LOL). We picked up Jorge and ate at Taco Bell and drove to Hidalgo to see the Festival of Lights.

The kids were fascinated and so were we, really, heh. I wish we could have gotten down to see everything, but some of the kids were sniffly and it was still drizzling.

My Favorite!

We did the tour and then dropped the older 3 kiddos off. We cleaned Emily up when we got home and put her to bed. My lovely girl, she’s so wonderful ♥.

The next day was the fajita cookout at work. I hadn’t had a chance to get breakfast but my babe took me some Whataburger :). He’s so wonderful!

I helped Gerry most of the morning and since I did a lot of standing and I was in heels, my feet were screaming for mercy. Thankfully I had brought my flip flops with me. I helped with clean up (well, Robert and I did most of it) and then I answered a few emails, returned calls and got out of there!

I got home and spent time with my Emmos. She was happy wanted to read her books. Mom said she was really cooperative when she changed her bandaid. I was nervous that she’d flip out since the bandaid was so close to her eyebrow, but she was fine :).

We went to Ross so I could attempt to find a blouse for my company party that night. Yes. Very last minute. I found a decent blouse and a shirt for my babe :). Mary called that she was on her way back from the outlets and would meet me at Ross to pick up Emily. She was at the wrong one, so I had to wait. We waited about 20 minutes and I was about to leave when they arrived, grrr.

I dropped mom off, picked up Jorge and then we rushed around getting out stuff together. I was slowly getting into a bad mood, since we were rushing, I didn’t get a chance to straighten my hair, etc. But he cheered me up and we made our way to the boss’s house :).

We had some good food, chit-chatted with my coworkers and then it was time for the gift exchange. We’d taken a Hypnotic gift set, which ended up with Gerry and we ended up with a glass…vase? And a candle. I hope it’ll eventually grow on me, the vase LOL.

Gerry’d gotten one of the karaoke rooms at Kohnami so we all headed over there. I’d never sand karaoke in my life, but it was really fun. Michelle and I had one of the first songs, which I can’t remember at the moment. Maritza and I sang “My Humps” LOL. And then Michelle and I sang “I Kissed a Girl” and later I sang “Mercy” with Gerry. Even my babe sang!! It was great seeing him come out of his shell, heh :).

Everyone wanted to continue to Hillbillys but we were exhausted already LOL. I don’t know how people can stay up so darn late!!

I thought I was going to get to sleep in the next day…but I had to drop Jorge off. He wasn’t hiding his extreme joy that I had to get up early too LOL. I dropped him off, did some research on gifts the kids wanted, switched my Facebook to Timeline and then I passed out. It was around 10am and I slept till about 1, when John got here. We sat around, I paid bills online, did more gift research and then Mom and I finally headed out the door. I am 90% done with our shopping, thank God. And I stayed within budget!

I picked up a pizza on the way home and then we chilled out. Jorge had a few of his friends over and I stayed inside with the boys. Jorgie wanted hot chocolate, so I obliged and we drank it while we watched Food Network :).

As for today, we woke up and watched Ridiculousness on MTV, lazied around, ate breakfast, cleaned, did the last of the shopping, made lunch, lazied around some more, Mario dropped off Emily, Jorge and I folded/hung the mountain of clean laundry, Jorge made dinner (shrimp scampi!!) and while I put Emily to bed he cleaned the bathroom (cleaned the vanity, swept and mopped), finished up laundry and ironed my pants while I finished this blog. Yes. One of the best weeks, indeed!!

Change of Plans

Jorge and I drove to work together today . I had enough time to pack my breakfast and lunch, which is great. The plan was to stay at work during lunch, eat and blog (leftover apple chicken salad and a side of fruits) but my babe and I wanted to meet for lunch <3. We met at HEB Plus. He raved about the Cobb Salad, but once we got there I saw the 1/2 panini and soup and fell in love.

Not too shabby, HEB Plus!

They were SO GOOD, and so filling :).

Mario called that he wanted to pick up Emily tonight since “I have her from Thursday on” (and I completely refrained from starting a fight because I totally wanted to yell: Well, you have the other 3 from Sunday to Thursday, so NO!!, but I was a good girl :)). So he’s going to have her tonight and Wednesday, part of Thursday for Thanksgiving and then I have them Thursday afternoon till Sunday evening. I hate this whole back-and-forth thing, but I’m glad we can be civil enough to share them .

My babe and I have a date tonight since Emmos won’t be home. We haven’t gone on a “date” in a LONG time. We’re usually at home with Emily, or all the kids or we go jogging after dinner, all of which we love :). But, I’m so excited :)! Finally going to watch Breaking Dawn (coupon!) and we’re having dinner at Cornerstone Grill. But first, I’m gonna get him some pants from Old Navy (coupon is expiring today!) and then I’m picking him up from work. And work has been low-key since our event is over and most of my co-workers have already left. All we really did was go to the Consul’s office, where I served as photographer again :). And then I cleaned my desk:

Clean!!

So spiffy, heh. And much cleaner than last week for sure!

Ok, 6 minutes till I’m out of here. I’m feeling so darn blessed and just GREAT!!
