Not Much of an Aftermath…For Us
So Hurricane Dolly came and went. We all expected this huge disaster, because that’s what they were making it out to be, but luckily it only rained, became windy, and a few trees fell over and that was that. Well, for our area anyway. I know South Padre, Port Isabel, Brownsville and Harlingen were really battered by the storm. I need to call Dad tomorrow and see how he’s doing (totally forgot to today =\)…it said on the news that in his area it rained 13 inches! It flooded badly in some other small towns, too.
We spent most of the day yesterday cooped up at Mary’s. Well, the kids, mom and I did anyway. Mario was outside with his dad, Adan and later Jason drinking some beers and enjoying the rain and breeze. We didn’t have any thunder or lightning that I know of and the lights only flickered and went out twice for about 3 seconds.
Mario didn’t have to go to work again today because there wasn’t any electricity at his workplace. So he and Jorge (his Nino) spent most of the day chopping down the mesquite tree that uprooted.

My dad-in-law had actually been talking about getting rid of that tree because it’s so messy, but he joked, “I didn’t want to do it this week!”
Mario and I took a quick drive around town to assess the damage. Thankfully we only saw two uprooted trees:

I have so many things to do these next two weeks around the house. I need to unclutter my bathroom and convince Mario to fix the patch of wall he had to remove in order to fix our shower pipes, um…about a month ago. I won’t bore you with the details, but yes, I’ve got tons to do! Eenan’s birthday’s coming up and for the first time ever, we’re not having a proper party for him at say, Peter Piper Pizza the way we usually do. We’re just taking him out to eat at his favorite restaurant. With everything going on I didn’t have time to plan, nor did I save money. But he’s okay with our new plan, so that’s what counts.
I feel like having some Olive Garden…they’re having that soup and salad special for $5.99 again! Oh! And speaking of food, a while back I mentioned that my doctor said my diabetes results were normal, but to keep monitoring my sugars daily, just in case. Well, sometimes it does spike up, but rarely. I’ve been eating junk food lately, such as yesterday. We were bored and eating junk all day long. I kept checking my sugar and I was fine! Then this morning while having lunch at Mary’s I had a small amount of regular Dr. Pepper (I’ve been leery of diet drinks and aspartame since I found out I’m pregnant. I don’t know what the effects may be?) and then had a leftover Pop Tart of hers (my first Pop Tart in 3 months!) and when I checked my sugar I was fine! So hopefully I won’t have to worry too much about it during my pregnancy. I was terrified they’d tell me I’d have to inject myself with insulin, but I’m praying that’s not the case. We’ll see during my 28th week checkup, when they make me drink that orange sugar liquid.
Oh and one last quick thing about Alaethia. She loves to sing. She randomly starts singing “Happy Birthday” and “Twinkle Little Star”. She loves to sing while I’m changing her diaper. I started teaching her “Itsy Bitsy Spider” today and she caught on really quickly! Even the hand motions!
Then she was hitting the TV with the Wii sensor (OMG, I know) and I took it from her and scolded her, “You don’t hit the TV with anything, Alaethia, you understand?” And without missing a beat she turns to Jaylen who’s sitting on the sofa, points her finger and him and tells him, “‘Tand? ‘Tand?” as if he’s the one who was in trouble LOL.
She turned 1 1/2 today and I’m just so amazed by her and everything she does. She’s so brilliant I’m hoping she’ll make potty training a walk in the park for me ;).

Hey girl! I’m glad Dolly was reasonably good to you. And you’re pregnant again?!? Congrats, wow, you are going to have a large family – when will you know if it’s a girl or a boy? I hadn’t visited in a while so I thought I would… I haven’t blogged in over a year. Anyway, take care and have a great weekend!!
I’m so relieved that Dolly didn’t cause a lot of damage in our area, although in the lower Valley I hear the property damage reached $750 million!
Yup, I’m preggers again! Totally didn’t expect this lil’ one I did want a large family, just not so soon LOL! I found out Alaethia was a girl around 4 months, so I’m hoping that’s the case with this one.
So you’re not blogging at all now? A lot of my favorite bloggers have stopped blogging :(. I’m just barely starting to blog again…but I’m going to start work again in two weeks so it’s going to halt everything LOL.
Well much congrats and hopefully it’s a little girl so Alaethia will have a sister her age to play and grow with. My time has been so consumed with other things that I’ve neglected my site. Hopefully I’ll get back into it again, but who knows. I appreciate the continued linkback, as you’re still linked in mine as well. I thought about how many fanlistings I’d joined and wondered if that is still as big of thing as it used to be? Have a great weekend. I know we say this on occasion, but someday it would really be nice to meet you in person… but then again we should probably start communicating again online first, haha.
Aly is a trip! lol I’m glad the storm didn’t cause much damage. That was actually one tropical storm that didn’t come my way. (I live in louisiana) I was surprised! lol
Hi Yajaira! I hadn’t been to your website in months, I’ve had things going on that I’ve had to cope with, but I come back and the first post I see is about you having another baby! Congrats! I just wanted to say that and wish you the best of luck, surely it’ll all be alright. Wouldn’t it be cool if you had another girl, you” have two and two, hehe. Seeya!
WOW I haven’t been here in ages, or atleast that;s how long it seems :-P. Anyways Yeah I have a friend who lives in Brownsville and he said they got it really bad down there, although not as bad as they made it out to be so that’s good i guess, although he didn’t have power and was flooded for a while he said. I’m glad you guys didn’t have too much of the hurrican over in your area :). WOW you’re pregnant again, that’s awesome. Do you know what it is yet? I’m sorry if that is oldnews again i havent been to your site in ages hehe.. Anyways congratulations on your new baby :)… *KISSES*
Thank you again! That’s what we’re hoping for, a little playmate for Aly. But as long as the baby’s healthy, that’s all that matters.
I know…there came so many times this past year that I wanted to just close it down since I wasn’t doing anything with it, but I’ve had it for so long I just couldn’t!
You’re welcome for the linkback; I was sort of hoping if I kept everyone there they’d start blogging again LOL. I only ever remove anyone if their site’s completely gone, not just on a long hiatus. About the fanlistings: I have no idea if they’re still popular. I don’t even know what’s going on anymore LOL.
I completely agree; about communicating online and meeting IRL!
I know, I’m glad it didn’t go your way either! The communities down here were actually afraid our levees wouldn’t hold up, but they did since it only got up to a Cat 2 hurricane. I’d hate to know what would have happened if it were a stronger one, though :(.
Diana!! It’s so good to hear from you! I hope everything’s going well for you and that you’re okay. And thank you! We’re hoping for another girl, actually! But as long as he/she’s healthy, that’s all that matters. (But I’m keeping my fingers crossed LOL). Hope to hear from you again!
Caleb, wow, it’s good to hear from you! It does feel like it’s been forever!!
Oh wow, you have a friend that lives in Brownsville, that’s so cool! Yeah, one of my friends lives in San Benito, which is close to Brownsville, and I just found out she got flooded and lost so much :(. Some people barely got power restored this week!
Thanks for the congrats! We don’t know what the gender is yet…not for 2 more months. I’ll keep y’all updated!
