Pick Up, Shmickup
I meant to write a few hours ago after I’d picked Eenan up, but since I was flaming mad I thought I’d give myself a while to cool off. Well, it’s been a while and I’m still pissed
.
Jaylen and I got in the car at 2:40 as we do every day to wait in line to pick Eenan up. I was maybe the 8th person in line. The air conditioner was on full blast, Jaylen was contently playing with his toys in the back seat, and I was about to get back into Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, when I see a cop drive up and saw him waving at people to roll their windows down. I roll mine down, to hear what the comotion was about, and he says we can’t be parked in the street because we’re in the way. Hello? Where else are we supposed to park and wait? They don’t open the gate to the school till 3:15, and whether he or the commissioner or whoever sent him like it or not, they can’t do anything about the huge line that forms. We need to pick up our kids. Since I was in a huge T-shirt and boxers, I came back home and changed so that I could talk to the principal about the whole situation. When I went back the same cop was talking to the rest of the parents who’d gotten in line, so I waited behind a car that was stopped and proceeded to drive into the bus loading area. To my surprise the cop’s on my passenger side and he tells me that I almost ran over a lady who was crossing the crosswalk. I yelled, “WHAT?? There wasn’t anyone there!” He insists that there was, when I clearly looked both ways before crossing. Now that I think about it, I was way past the crosswalk by the time that lady crossed it. Grr. After appologizing for something I didn’t “almost” do, I ask him about where we should park now. He says he doesn’t know, that we can’t get in line there and that maybe we should park in the neighborhoods and walk across or DRIVE AROUND. Sure buddy, easy for you to say since the city/state pays for your gas. Has he SEEN the gas prices??
I was so pissed about him accusing me of something I didn’t do that I just drove off. I didn’t talk to anyone about it. I parked where Elda does; in one of the neighborhoods across the street from the school. It was incredibly crowded–two cars could not pass at one time. Later on I bet they’ll be telling us we can’t park in the neighborhoods because we’re blocking people’s drive ways. I crossed the street to where Elda was parked and told her about it. A few minutes later I walked across the street (Jaylen stayed with Elda) and I went to get Eenan. I spoke to one of his teachers about the whole parking/waiting, another lady who’s a patroller, and then Eenan’s kindergarten teacher and nobody knew about it and even they were in shock. Grr. It would have been nice if the cop had gone INTO the school, let the principal know AHEAD OF TIME, and then she could have notified us about it. I’m just so pissed. 3rd time the school changes the after school pick-up routine. Lord knows they have enough extra land, I don’t know why they just don’t make a parking lot or SOMETHING to accomodate parents and their cars. They’ve (the city, cops, whoever was “complaining”) seen us parking there for the past two years and only now it’s a problem? I don’t know why whoever built the school didn’t realize parking and picking up students was a necessity.
I’d really like to yell at someone right now.

I haven’t gotten Richy’s expert opinion on where specifically this one is going, but it will be a hurricane of some sort, 2-3 maybe? And South TX is in part of the projected path.

We have to worry about it too, if it decides to go across FL instead of beneath it 🙁 Just thought I’d give you a heads up. Keep your kitchen stocked.

Hey Yajaira it’s been sometime! Sorry to hear about the parking incident. That sounds horrible. Maybe when the next school meeting comes up, parents should brin gup the topic of parking, or bulding a drive-through pick-up thing. Things are so busy around my school, when crossing the street students almost get hit my cars! Urg! And gas prices dont get me started on that, I live in Canada you see, so gas is a bit higher that in the States. So gross!!!

Ahhhh difficult situation! I would be so nervous with that. I still can’t drive my damn lil self anywhere. Part of the reason being that I will be in huge trouble if I get a ticket. I still cannot parallel park and that is affecting everything. I am so glad that you can get around and do what you have to do. I sometimes feel that I can’t do anything for myself! 😥
