Jessica’s Baby Shower & Brownsville

Saturday, June 9th

I managed to sleep in a little, till about 9am; despite Jorge’s SUPER LOUD alarm blaring for 15 minutes straight, even after several slightly stubbly (heh) kisses on the cheek, forehead and lips while he got ready. Aw. I wish I could just keep him with me on a Saturday morning .

I could have slept more, but I had too many errands to run and didn’t want to be rushing at the last minute, like I usually am. So I made myself some coffee (fat free creamer and Splenda–bleh. I’m trying to cut down on sugar since I haven’t been feeling very well and don’t want a repeat of 2008.) and some egg whites with a slice of chopped up turkey breast. I had Jessica’s baby shower to attend at 3 and then Jorge and I were going to have a big dinner, so I was going to keep my calories down as much as possible throughout the day.

I showered and did my girl thing; redid my toenails, flat-ironed my hair, etc. Got ready and went to the bank with Mom, then to my other bank, then to Old Navy to get Jess’ baby a few things and some jeans for Jorge for Father’s Day. We were making excellent time. We visited Gramma after that. She’s doing much better, thank God. She’d had an X-ray and the preliminary results showed that she was developing pneumonia again :(. The last time she had pneumonia she was in the hospital for weeks and very, scarily ill. But she’s taking her medication and she’s moving around in her wheelchair during the day and doing physical therapy a little bit. I’m glad the nurses finally paid attention; her coughs would turn into pneumonia before because she didn’t want to to get out of bed and they’d listen to her .

Mom stayed with her and told me to pick her up after I left the baby shower. I came home to change my shoes and rushed to Jessica’s. After getting lost for a few minutes I ended up at the right place, heh. We chitchatted and I got straight to helping her with the 8-layer dips, guacamole, the garlic bread and other things here and there. She was going all-out and feeding us WELL. She even made these super cute drinks:

Jessica's Baby Shower

I totally want to make these. With some Sparking peach champagne or Moscato!

People were having trouble finding Jess’ house and she was getting shaky from being on her feet and cooking all day so we all made her sit to eat. I had one of the dips, a few chips and a skewer of bacon-wrapped chicken. Everything was so good! Totally gonna have to make those. I’m thinking of throwing a dinner party, maybe before she has her baby and before Carmen leaves to her new station in Virginia. We’ll have another mini-reunion :).

It was already going to be 5:30. The baby shower was till 7, but since Jorge and I had to take off to Brownsville by 6, I had to leave early :(. She served me a plate of the main dish–lasagna and garlic bread–and I got ready to leave. As I said my good-byes her mom says, “We need to do this again!” And then she looks at Jess’ belly and said, “Wait.” I said, “Yes, again. Under different circumstances!” LOL

I miss my babies like crazy. I spoke to them while I was on my way to pick Mom. It was brief, and Jaylen was, er, on the toilet when he was talking to me LOL, so that was a short chat.

Jorge was already home; showered and taking a nap. The poor thing had a dramatic day at work. They were almost done with a project when one of his employees made a huge mistake and they had to clean it all up. Luckily, it was all done and he got out early like he’d planned to.

We got our things together and headed to Brownsville. I spent the drive untangling my gold chains, stupid things! But we chitchatted and had a relaxing drive. We got to the restaurant and got out seats since we were on the list, but they charged us for the boxing bracelets. And then there was another misunderstanding, but Jorge explained that his friend was the owner and then it dawned on them that, YES! They did tell us you were coming! And the night went smoothly from there :).

Jorge updated his status on Facebook, which made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :).

Jorge's Status 6-9-12

It felt nice to just get away for a bit. We quite literally pigged out. I joked, “See what happens when you deprive yourself?” 😛

This was a mango Margarita. One of the best I’ve had:

Mango Margarita

This was a tamarindo Margarita. It was good, but you could only drink so much because it was so sour!

Tamarindo Margarita

This was dinner. I brought more than half home LOL.

Beef O'Brady's Shrimp Dinner

Aaaaand I ate ALL of this one:

Chocolate Eruption Bar. *swoon*

Cut down on who’s sugar intake?!

Oh. My. God. Beef O’Brady’s in Brownsville. Every darn thing was super tasty. Totally recommend.

It was hard for me to stay awake after that brownie. I was sugar-crashing hardcore. But I did pay attention to the fight and OMG…what a rip-off. Had we paid for it (our bracelets were refunded and we transferred it to the waiter as his tip), I woulda been angry. Jorge called it. He said they were setting up Pacquiao for failure so Mayweather would step in and say Ok, now I wanna fight. Sucks that his sons were present for the very first time and saw their dad lose .

We got in the car, Jorge was driving. Since we were both getting sleepy we blared Phillip Phillips and Elise Testone full blast and sang our hearts out :). I love that :).

We got home, changed into PJs and sat in the garage until this old lady started nodding off. I got ready for bed and he watched TV till he fell asleep; his nightly ritual :). Awesome day, indeed!

Perfect Timing

I learned today that we’d be getting our hours cut at work for the summer. I can’t say I’m surprised. We were told we could leave at 2pm today. I was a little bummed; but it’s only 2 hours less than I was already doing and leaving at 2pm on Friday? Heck yes, I’ll take it!

The morning went by fast, Michelle and I talked about our eating/exercises (which I’ve done none of since we started again), I covered for Rosie and then I met my love for lunch at Palenque Chicken, ’cause I’m awesome and had a coupon.

I had no idea what I’d be having for lunch; I wanted something not so fattening. I ended up getting a quesadilla anyway, since I felt rushed and panicked.

MMA Rudy was eating there, too. Jorge arrived and we invited Rudy over to sit with us and then 2 of Jorge’s co-workers got there. We joked and laughed. I hope they don’t think I’m weird because my sense of humor is much like Jorge’s and sometimes not so lady-like .

Rudy got his food and I was surprised and quite jealous when I saw grilled chicken and steamed veggies on his plate. Grr. I wish I’d known about that!! Now I know what to order for next time.

I got back to work and hung around 30 more minutes till I had to leave. I put gas in the van, since we’re going to Brownsville tomorrow to watch the fight and it’ll save us some time :). I can’t wait!

I got home and TOTALLY planned to just sit and blog and chit-chat on the Ol’ School Bloggers Facebook group. Can I just say how awesome that place and those people are!? Who would have thought we’d all get to reunite and catch up on each other’s lives! There are a few people whose domain names I remember and I’m sure I read a few but never really got to connect with the owner since I was sorta shy at the time, but it’s great to be able to now! Ah, technology. I want to hug you .

Jorge has been quite patient. I don’t think he truly “gets” the blogging thing, though he knows I’ve done it forever now. But when I have some free time I’m glued to my phone or computer, reading everyone’s comments on the group and attempting to finish up my queued blog entries and he just smiles and reads over my shoulder sometimes as we’re sitting down together watching TV. Well, I’m sort of watching, heh.

Of course, when I got home, I couldn’t JUST sit and play on my computer or else I’d feel guilty. I dunno. I’m weird like that. So I went into the laundry room and folded/hung/and put away all of this past Sunday’s clean laundry. Jorge is amazing and most of the time he does laundry all on his own, he just needs help sorting. It’s wonderful to have a partner that HELPS, you know? I was used to doing EVERYTHING while someone sat on his ass drinking a beer .

But anyway!

I swept up a bit, threw out the bathroom trash bags and then, finally, sat to blog. I started uploading more pics to Flickr, manually, because Javi’s friend took my charger when they came to visit, grrr! I have enough photos up to continue blogging now, though.

I heard some light thunder rumbling outside and checked the window. It had started to rain! I grabbed my laptop, a chair and sat in the porch. I love this porch. I love our creepy looking mesquite trees, the unruly bamboo trees, the birds chirping and the woodpeckers pecking for just a second before they fly off.

Rain and thunder

I wish I could have gotten a better photo . I would have gotten a photo of the trees, but the neighbor’s multi-colored house behind us is a little appalling, not to be mean. One of these days we’ll install an 8ft fence, heh.

So there. A blog entry! I real time! The rain stopped just a bit ago and the mosquitoes must have noticed because they’re swarming me . I think I’m going to go inside and attempt to finish up an old blog entry and cook something afterwards.

[edit 9:06pm] I never got around to updating the old blog entry, but talked to my kiddos (they’re with Mario till next Wednesday; we agreed on doing the weekly thing instead of the monthly. That would have killed me!).

Oh, and I did cook something!

Honey chipotle glazed pork tenderloin with sauteed asparagus & bacon

Honey chipotle glazed pork tenderloin with sauteed asparagus & bacon. This meal, per plate, cost about $4! This plate’s Jorge’s. Mine was more petite .

Jorge and I wanted to go out somewhere, but he’s tired so we decided to stay in. He’s watching Tron and I’m about to go remove my contacts ’cause they’re bothering me. Then I might just open up one of those pre-made Margaritas I have in the freezer (depending on what Myfitnesspal reports ) and catch up on a few entries. I could get on the treadmill now that I have some free time, but I really want to catch up!!

[edit 10:20pm] Jorge is asleep, and I’m bored, can you tell? Heh.

So I checked my log for today and these are my results:

intakes

So. I could have that Margarita and go over my sugar intake LIKEWOAH. Or, I just don’t have it and let the program scold me. Decisions, decisions.

And just as I suspected, I keep reading other blogs and never started on my old ones LOL.

…Jorge and I got some snacks: popcorn and Tostitos cheese and tea. As we’re walking through the hallway to our bedroom he says, “What does this Friday remind you of?” I say, “All the other days we’ve had snacks while we watch TV?” He laughs and says, “John’s apartment!” Awww!! He remembered! Good times <3.

Tours & BBQs

Sunday, April 22nd – Sunday is our cleaning/gardening/projects day but I’m really not sure at all what we did that day, heh. Ok, lemme see. I know I cleaned the house most of the day and juuuuust as I was about to sit and rest, the girls asked if NOW could we please make the Kool-Aid Play Doh?? I couldn’t deny them the Play Doh; they’d been patiently waiting as I’d cleaned.

We went to the kitchen and got all the ingredients out. The girls made grape and cherry scented Doh. It was super easy and much less messy than when we made the food coloring doh. AND they smelled great!

Justin and Jaylen were next. We’re pouring all the dry ingredients in and we realize we’re almost out of cream of tartar. I don’t want to go to HEB but I know we have to. Emily joins me and the other kiddos stay with Mom. The trip is quick and Emily didn’t have a small meltdown when I rejected several things she tried tossing in the cart, which is always wonderful!

We get back and the boys all make their scented Play Dohs. I know they probably won’t ever play with them again after that one time (because they only played with the 1st ones they made once LOL) but I love doing these little projects with them :). Here’s the video if you’d like to try this with your little ones :).

Kool-aid Playdoh

Monday, April 23rd – It was an early morning for all of us. I got ready, got the boys up early and we were out the door with plenty of time. Eenan and I talked a while and then they both passed out for about 15 minutes, my poor dudes. It always makes me so sad, having to drop them off and knowing I won’t see them for a week. I have to try my hardest to hold it together when I drop Jaylen off and he keeps looking back, smiling his little half-smile at me. When he finally gets to the door he blows me a kiss–discreetly, of course, as he is in 4th grade–and I blow him one back. It’s the worst feeling, ever, watching them walk away .

I drove back over here and went to work. My love called me when he was about drop off Aly for me and I wished her a good day. I only see her briefly on Monday mornings as I’m leaving. It’s too early for her to wake up when I’m going to drop the boys off. So Mom gets her ready for school and gives her breakfast and Jorge drops her off. Thank God for them both!
