Bittersweet

Good news and bad news.

Good news: Mario got the computer working again with the Restore disks. We can get online, obviously, and that’s good.

Bad news: I lost all my digital pictures from the end of May 2005 up until now. Eenan’s 6th birthday, Mary’s birthday, Elda’s, Annie’s, Yazmin’s 13th, the ones I took just last week of Belinda (Ricci’s daughter’s) party. We lost all of our programs. Some we had backed up, others we didn’t. Lost all my site files but I think I’ve got all of those backed up. I haven’t even really started thinking about what we lost. I don’t even want to think about it. I had a nice, silent crying fit this afternoon as Mario placed Restore disk after Restore disk into the CD drive.

I don’t know what went wrong. I followed that little nerd’s instructions. The only thing I did was set my OS to restart in SafeMode and after that, it didn’t restart AT ALL.

I’ll never, ever rely on my computer again.

Stupid viruses.

Stupid dumb “nerd”.

Anyway…

We spent all day at school working on our study guides for PC Hardware. We have our final on Tuesday. Kimberly, Desi, Ricci, Mayra, Rosie, Lucy and I grouped up and worked together to find the answers. Since we had a substitute, the “other side” of the class hardly did anything, which came as no surprise to anyone . We were pretty pissed to find out that we didn’t actually get a grade for the study guide and the ones who didn’t do anything just wrote the answers in when we were “checking” our answers. Grr.

We had a talk with Lucy and I’m so glad she’s back to her old self. It was so…weird not hanging out with her like we usually do. But yes, she’s back, and I’m happy .

We ate at Jack In the Box (our usual) after school and just talked and laughed like we always do. I love my friends . I couldn’t stand it if one of us left the “group”. I haven’t had friends like this in a long time and I appreciate each one of them. Those who’ve visted me for a few years know the issues I’ve had in the past with friends so having friends like this–friends that you can tell anything to, laugh, joke around with and nobody gets offended–it’s so important to me. I’m a much happier person now that they’re in my life.

I’m in a sappy mood, can you tell? I think it’s my cold. And the fact that I’ve lost everything on my computer for the 2nd time. Or the fact that today was the day Ricky took the kittens . I feel over-sensitive, so can you imagine? I feel like crying every 5 minutes!

Since I’m sick and we’re babysitting Sammy and Brandon (and of course are watching our own kids) we rented a few movies: Monster-in-Law, Desperate House Wives Season 1, Fever Pitch and a free movie, Shark Boy and Lava Girl for the boys to watch. I LOVE Monster-In-Law! 2nd time I’ve watched it and it’s still as funny as the first time. Even Mario and John positively loved it. I turned to my left at the end of the movie and saw John almost crouched into a little ball and Mario’s eyes glistening in the corners. I grab my roll of toilet paper (which I was using to wipe my snot) and offer it to John, then Mario and say, “Aww, you’re crying!”

He scowls and says, “No I’m not!”

“Yes you are!”

He rolls his eyes and says, “I’m just sweating!”

I raised my eyebrow. “You’re…sweating from you eyes?”

I’m proud to say my husband’s so comfortable with his sexuality that he’s not afraid to be in touch with his feminine side .

Oh my throat’s really bugging me. I hope I’m healthy enough to take my final on Tuesday. *gasp* Jennifer had her baby today! I hope everything went smoothly for her. I hope she gets lots of rest; she’s planning to go in on Tuesday to take her final!

Going to download my FTP again. And whatever else I got a chance to salvage from previous back-ups . Thanks to all who left helpful and sympathetic comments !

[edit] As per Jaylen’s request, we’re watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. John, having nothing else to watch (supposedly), is very into the movie. During the part where they’re at a Quidditch match and Malfoy falls off his broom John said, “Repairus my nutsackus!”

He should call up J.K. Rowling and give her a few ideas for spells and charms .[/edit]

I’m so glad your computer is back up. However at least you didn’t lose everything… should’ve backed stuff up after I told you about mine crashing! But I guess the both of us learned something. And like you kinda said, I don’t rely on the computer as much. I guess it was God saying that I can’t take it with me, so why worry about it all now… though I know it hurts to lose so much.
“repairus my nutsackus” – how funny! 🙂 Have a good weekend hun. If you’re on yahoo sometime, gimme a hi. I have a lot to do, but I have time to chat a while 🙂 Take care.

Oh the computer would seem dead. Mine was just a black screen, but he told me to keep trying it in different safe modes and it finally worked in what is called “Safe Networking”.

I am so sorry about your loss. The same happened to me in the middle of my grad term this summer. Now I am in debt with Dell and I had thought that this comp was dead too. Luckily I managed to save it and all my files. It seems like so much fun to get to see so many movies. I do not have time for anything. All I think about day and night is work, students, methods, strategies, etc.. I hope all goes well for you. Bye!

“Reparius my nutsackus!” Oh my GOD. That just made me WEEK. I cannot even tell you! That is so going up on my door for all of my house to see! 🙂 (We all love Harry Potter). It was so brilliant, in fact, that I had to read your entry to my roomie and we laughed. Really hard. 🙂 That reminds me of the Harry Potter Puppet Pals. Have you seen them yet? It’s hysterical! I agree. I totally support your phoning up JK Rowling and making suggestions. On a completely different note, I’m glad your computer’s back up again, too! 🙂

I’m sorry that you lost some files and programs. 🙁

LOL at John’s “spell!” That’s so hilarious!
