Family Matters

Work was a breeze this week, too. I finished up with stuff from my scholarship event as soon as I got to work on Tuesday (OMG, I just remembered I forgot to pay something *makes mental note*) and helped one of my co-workers with a mail-out. We were all summoned to do it and listened to music and ate pizza :). It was fun!

I fell asleep Tuesday night as my babe and I watched a movie on the sofa. And he passed out Wednesday…on the sofa. It’s something about that darn thing! It’s so comfortable you can’t help but fall asleep!

I went straight to get the kiddos Thursday night, got home, we all played with Ruffles and I got straight to making dinner (chicken tomato/Alfredo). My babe got here, we ate, and I dropped the kiddos off :(.

Our clean-up day at work was yesterday, Friday. Most of us started Thursday afternoon and I’m so glad I did. I organized our section in the storage room…it was terrible! There was old stuff and weird decorations…my boss gave me the ok to just chuck everything LOL. Now it’s nice and neat ^_^.

My boss, myself and two other co-workers were in charge of cleaning the kitchen. It was just my boss and I cleaning, though, but it’s ok. We finished in a flash and then I started in the filing room and my filing cabinets. Another co-worker was nice enough to vaccumm for us since her desk was super clean and she wasn’t in charge of other sections :). I dusted everything before meeting my love for lunch at Kumori. I hadn’t been there in a while! The food was super good, as always, and didn’t take forever even though the place was packed. I veered away from my favorite, the Rainbow Roll and got the McAllen Roll instead. It has raw fish, too. It was insanely good!

I tossed out my recycling box when I got back to the office and we all passed inspection in our area at 2:30! I ran a few errands, got some food at HEB and came home. John was spending the night since I was dropping him off at the airport in Harlingen early in the morning. I hadn’t seen him in a long time already!

I needed detergent because John had to do laundry and I had a few coupons I wanted try out so we headed back to HEB. I got a huge bottle of Gain deteregent (stupid, expensive detergent!), 7 bottles of KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce (were on sale for $1, with a $1 off coupon=free) and buy one get one free Airwick air fresheners. The total bill was $20, came out to $10.80. I basically paid for the detergent only! Not much of a mass purchase, but the Extreme Couponing thing could actually work! John and my babe were impressed, heh. We’ll never run out of BBQ sauce :P!

My first Extreme Couponing" expierience!

We waited for my babe to get home and we headed to Weinershnitzel, John’s treat. I hadn’t been there yet; it was GOOD!

We came back and waited for the rest of our group to get here. John turned in early, Michelle left around 11pm and the rest of us stayed up. I went to bed around 2:30 and still felt pretty good when I got up.

John and I amazingly found our way to the airport without getting lost. He was super nervous. I don’t blame him. I’ll probably be shitting bricks, too, when I finally go on my first flight LOL.

I passed by the Iwo Jima monument and followed the map on my phone.

I’m driving for what seems like forever and panic when I don’t see anything familiar. Never fails: I got lost after a wrong turn on US 77. I hate that thing. So I call my babe, get frustrated because I don’t know any of the roads he’s talking about and calm my nerves so I can focus and get back on the road. I did pretty good and then came up to a signless 4-way and wasn’t sure where I was supposed to turn. I, of course, went the wrong way and stopped at a gas station to get directions…but it was shut down. GREAT! I collect myself again, and head in the opposite direction and voila!, back on 83!

I was going to pass through Dad’s city and I hadn’t spoken to him since sometime last September so I stopped by. I started to get worried when I noticed the chair he sits in outside was overturned and dusty, his car looked like it hadn’t been moved in a while and nobody answered the door. He’s always home. I called the number I had and got voicemail. My half-brother’s number was now someone else’s. I found it weird that dad hadn’t tried contacting me since that last time we spoke and I began to get panicky. I went around the house and looked through the kitchen window. There was a candle on on the counter, so that made me feel a tiny bit better. I had a feeling I should check the doorknob and sure enough, it was open. I went in and felt creeped out right away. It was super dark and there were 3 wheelchairs. It was strange. He has one leg amputated due to diabetes, but I saw no reason for the types of wheelchairs that were there. I went into his room and my heart sank when I saw a hospital bed in place of his bed…and two prosthetics, not just one. I wondered if they were there because he was in the hospital. I got freaked out and left quietly and quickly. I left him a note on the door, letting him know I’d visited and left my number just in case he didn’t have it. I hoped for a call.

I got home and picked mom up and we visited with Gramma for a while. We came home and I relaxed most of the day. Lazied around like Ruffles, our kitty. Don’t know if I’d mentioned him before. He’s been with us since about two weeks after we moved in.

Ruffles!!

I watched Lifetime movies all day while texting with John and my babe. Didn’t do once ounce of cleaning, heh, which is fine ’cause the house doesn’t really need any heavy-duty cleaning. Just gotta sweep & mop tomorrow (I’ll get my babe to help me again :P) and do laundry.

Dad called around 2:30. He let me know they indeed amputated his other leg up to the knee as well and he’s having dialysis done 3 times a week, hence the reason he wasn’t home. I couldn’t believe it. He just doesn’t take care of himself. He almost died before they amputated his other leg. He just got the 2nd prosthetic done so he hasn’t started walking around with them yet. I’m glad we got back in contact. I really was worried. Mom gave him her cellphone number and they chatted a while LOL.

I meant to finish updating this entry since around 4:30…but I sat down to finish watching a movie and crashed out on the sofa (darn thing…). Woke up, talked to my babe who was on his way home with the boys, and I started on dinner. I made some cilantro dip, and now we’re sitting down to watch “Tron”. Wish my babies were here. They’re going to the beach with their dad tomorrow. I get worried, but I’m praying everything will be fine :(.

Ok, movie is starting!

Emily’s 1st Birthday!!

Just updating really quick to wish my Emily a happy birthday in this last hour of the 24th :). We’ve had a good day. We visited Sally and Quentin and she made us an amazing breakfast that Emily really enjoyed. Alaethia, my little bird, picked at her food as always and was much more interested in playing with Quentin and his toys. We visited Mary and her coworkers and everyone cooed over how pretty the girls are :).

I picked up the boys, John came over to do laundry and I got ready for Taekwondo. It as Ernesto teaching today and he put on a chest protector and was my Target as he taught me sparring techniques. I was super tired by the end of class, to say the least. I got home and washed up and made Emily a brownie fudge cake. Mario picked up Dominoes and we had a nice little dinner at the in-laws’. John and Mom were there, too, of course and Elda and the boys came over. It was the cutest watching Emily make her squinty smile s she watched the candle burn while we sang her happy birthday. And she had a blast feeding herself cake and smushing it all over.

Jaylen’s sparring equipment came in so I picked it up. He’s excited. As I was walking out of the school Ernesto tells the two teens there, Salvador and Junior, how well I was doing my mula kick. It was nice to hear :).

And in closing I ant to say I just feel so blessed to have Emily in my life. All 4 of them. I still remember when I found out I was pregnant with her; it was such a shock and I was so scared. But she is the apple of all our eyes. Happy Birthday, my tiny buddy :). I love you!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Starting this up at 12:11, so I’m not to late, heh. Had to stop our celebration half an hour early and bring the kids inside because idiots in our neighborhood started shooting their guns. They do this crap every year!

John chilled out with me most of the day. We watched some marathon on VH1 about the new millennium and I got a quick work out in before I showered and went to McAllen to cash Mario’s pay check. I wanted to have the entire house completely clean, but I only got to do a few dishes, 2 loads of laundry and toss out the trash before I had to leave. I always hear Mom in my head saying “if you don’t have the house clean on New Year’s Eve, you’re going to have a messy house the entire new year” and “if you don’t shower on New Year’s Eve, you’re going to be dirty the entire new year”. I at least got the shower part done LOL. And the messy house isn’t anything new, heh.

We had lunch and Mom got situated with all the kiddos before we left. We went all the way to McAllen and I stopped by Mario’s work to drop off the things he asked me to take with me. He said the checks still weren’t in, so to go ahead and waste time in town. I looked down at my legs, which haven’t been shaven in weeks because it’s been cold. I was in shorts since it was in the 70’s today and my favorite jeans were in the dryer back at home. I was NOT about to go into Barnes & Noble with legs like that LOL. So John and I just waited in the parking lot, listening to music and sharing the latest gossip. We waited about an hour and a half, just so that Mario could finally get his check and tell me he needs to get something for his Boost phone so he’d go ahead and go to the bank. So basically…I went to McAllen for NOTHING. I could have been cleaning the house! Or baking! Or starting on the dips for tonight!

So I get home and since John wasted all that time he asked me to give him a haircut. Fine. Then Mario gets home and wants one. Fine. Then my dad-in-law wanted one and a beard trim. Oh, alright.

So needless to say, I didn’t get the dips done :(. And we find out at the last minute that everyone’s going over to Grandpa Dario’s for a bar-b-q instead of getting together at our house. As crappy as it would be not hanging out with the entire family, it’s a tradition to pop fireworks with the kids, eat and have a few drinks here, at home.

Mario and Jaylen left to buy fireworks and Mary, Alaethia and I went to Walmart to get a few things. Mom stayed with Eenan & Emily. I got the s’more’s stuff, got some Moscato wine, beer, and pizzas since I wasn’t making the dips (can you tell I’m bummed about not having Spinach Artichoke and Velveeta/Rotel dip? LOL).

As soon as I got home I popped the pizzas in the oven. Rolando, Eenan’s friend, was already here. The boys were outside popping fireworks under Mario’s supervision.

An arsenal of fireworks!

Mario wasn’t in a good mood at all. He even snapped at me a few times, and I told him to stop ’cause he was being super rude. What a way to bring in the new year! I ignored it, though, and enjoyed spending time with the in-laws, Mom and my kiddos.

Eenan had a little moment of emo-ness, too. He was sad because Angela and the other kids weren’t here, but I told him it was fine, he was still spending time with his best friend and siblings. He threw a small fit outside and I just snapped. I sternly told him, “All the people that matter the most are HERE! You, and everyone else that’s complaining (*cough*Mario*cough*) need to realize that!”

I didn’t hear any more complaining after that.

I got everyone fed and the boys popped more fireworks. Emily was having a blast with her grandparents and Alaethia was coloring with her Crayola stuff. She’s still not too fond of fireworks.

The boys were getting a little overexcited with the fireworks, so we brought out the S’mores stuff. They were excited to melt their own marshmallows with the skewers.

S'mores time!!!

They had about another hour to pop fireworks before Rolando was picked up. I brought out the bottle of wine and Mario opened it and poured my glass, as a nice peace offering that I gladly accepted.

The girls were becoming antsy, Jaylen was sleepy and quickly becoming moody and then the neighbors started shooting so we came inside. I texted and responded to a few New Years texts and then John came over around 12:40 to pick up some food he forgot here. He chilled for a bit, shared some disgusting stories (LOL, typcial John) and then left. The girls are now sleeping and Mario’s still outside, drinking alone, still in a not-so-good mood according to his Myspace status. *sigh*

I can’t believe a whole year’s passed. 2009 was a really good year. I became a stay-at-home mom again. Emily, my surprise baby, came into my life and made it even better than it was. My entire family’s healthy and well, even though Gramma did have her bouts of pneumonia, she prevailed and she’s healthy again. I hope God keeps her that way for many more years to come. We did lots of cool things during summer, like going to my very first concert every (George Strait & Sugarland in Houston!) and we visited Disney World again! The boys and I joined Taekwondo and I feel healthier than I have in a long time. I’m finally 120 pounds again (hope to get to 110–it’s not too little, I’m only 4’11”, remember!). And countless other blessings I can’t recall off the top of my head. I know 2010 will be even better!

Must work on a New Year’s Resolution list tomorrow!
