Babies and Some Bad News

Matthew Thomas was born on Saturday morning weighing 7 lbs. 14.6 oz.–and he was four and a half weeks early! He’s such a beautiful baby. He’s got the chubbiest cheeks, chubbier that even Eenan’s were at birth. I just want to squeeze and nuzzle him. He was born with a full head of hair. I’d forgotten just how soft and silky brand-new baby hair feels.

I went to visit him and Yadira around noon with Mom. We took her some flowers and were really quiet in her room since she needed total silence. Her blood pressure was still high so the doctors were trying to keep her as calm as possible. Mom, Mary (who’d stayed with her since 4 a.m. and was present for Matthew’s birth), and I whispered amongst ourselves while she rested. Mary went out to do something and Yadira couldn’t sleep so we talked. Her pediatric nurse, Tony, came in and told her how Matthew was doing. They were running glucose tests on him since she had Gestational Diabetes and his sugars were low. Babies are supposed to be around 45, but he’d gone down to 33 and Tony was afraid he’d go lower so they were keeping an eye on him. He said if it got lower Matthew might go into a coma. That’s scary to hear. Matthew was fine within a few hours so he got to visit and feed with his Mama.

I decided that I need to take care of myself, especially since I want to have another baby soon. I haven’t had Gestational Diabetes with either of my pregnancies, but I couldn’t forgive myself if I didn’t eat well and excersize and I got it this time around. Mom and Dad both have Diabetes, so there’s a chance I might get it, but with a proper diet and excersize I should be fine.

I have at least 15 lbs. exactly to lose before I’ll allow myself to get pregnant, which I’d really like to get a move on already . I thought once Matthew was born it would be enough to satisfy my baby hunger, but I think he just made me want a baby even more (he’s so CUTE!). I’ve been thinking of conceiving for the past few months and kept hinting to Mario about it who would just say he wanted to have our house first before we had another child. It made me sad to think about it, that he didn’t want to try, but I started thinking maybe it was for the better that we waited. Although my uterus yearns to be occupied, I kept thinking about finishing school and starting work and how a baby wouldn’t be possible at the moment.

Tonight, my husband came home and tossed my birth control pills in the trash. I’m so ready for this. I’ve got names picked out and everything. Who knows when we’ll actually start to try; what with him working all the time and school and the kids and housework draining me out it seems impossible to even start trying, but it thrills me to know he’s come around this time, and hopefully for sure. We’re not telling anyone till we actually know we’ve conceived . Maybe I shouldn’t be writing about this here…

I got this wonderful news about Mario wanting to try for a baby after I got a call from Mary that our Padrino, Arturo, was found dead, probably murdered, at his ranch. Our Madrina, Oralia, couldn’t find him for two days and today in the afternoon, they found him. His truck and body were completely burned. It makes me sick to think of it–of how someone could be so damn inhuman to do something like this. We hadn’t seen them in so long; I feel horrible. Why would anyone have something against him? I just don’t get it at all. We’re going over there tomorrow to visit Oralia and pay our respects. I don’t know how I’ll be able to see her that way. They’d fight all the time, playfully most of the time, but she spent most of her life with him. She just had him ripped away from her, just like that. It came out on the news tonight, the first breaking story they had, but didn’t say much. God, I just can’t believe it. I hope they find/catch whoever’s behind this.

I should go take my shower now and try to think of the good things instead of the very, very unfortunate.

No Bad Luck For Me–So Far

I think this is the first Friday the 13th ever that something bad doesn’t happen. It’s actually been a pleasant day!

Woke up, took a shower and had my bowl of Special K (with strawberries!). I’ve gone on the Special K diet (since Wednesday I think?) and have already lost a lb.! Woo!

We took our “Before” pics at school for the contest. The whole class watched as we pulled our shirts tightly around ourselves and showed our lard. I won’t dare post those pics up here, but I will post this one:

I don’t think I’ve ever put up a pic of “all of me” in all the years I’ve been blogging, but here it is. Yes, I’m short and stout. With big boobs.

After taking the Before pictures, Pepe (who’s camera we were using) wanted a group picture, so we took one. Not all of the class is in it, like a few girls from the other side, Joe and Ricci (who was absent). I’ve got a new pic for my scrapbook!

Speaking of, I need to get a few (okay, A LOT) of pictures printed and I’m thinking of going with either Walgreens (first 20 prints free!), Walmart or Target. Has anyone had any experiences with these stores and how was the quality of the pictures? What’s best: picking up in-store or delivering (they charge shipping, huh?)? Your input would be GREATLY appreciated !

We got our Business Communications (or, English) finals back and I got a 106! I was having so much trouble with the Participles and Perfects but I only missed 2 in that section! I was so sure I was going to bomb that part, but I somehow understood it . I can’t wait to find out what I passed the class with.

I accompanied Mayra to Party Universe and Hector’s Health Store after school. Mayra hadn’t had breakfast and my cereal was wearing off so we stopped at Taco Bell. Silly us thinking they had salads, heh. We had a salad alright, the one that has beans, ground beef, sour cream, cheese and all this other stuff. It was so sinfully GOOD. I was going to have my cereal tonight since I didn’t have it for lunch, but we’re going to Jorge and Maggie’s for Jorge’s birthday and we shall surely eat there. I vow to be un-gluttonous.

When I got home Mario was in a great mood and so was Jaylen. I had playfully lied on top of him and ended up falling asleep there until we had to pick Eenan up from school. Mario drove, thankfully. I’ve been so tired lately–it sucks!

Terry stopped by for a visit after we picked Eenan up. It was so nice seeing him. He’s still as funny as ever. We talked about our pets and about people and just caught up on everything. We asked if he’d like a kitten, but they’ve got like, a zillion of them already.

Aren’t they cute? I think Daisy’s the one that’s missing from the picture. We’re keeping the white one. I still haven’t found a name for her. It has to be the perfect one.

We’re leaving soon, but before I’m done I’ll leave you with an article John showed me. It’s totally unbelievable!

Cy, short for Cyclopes, a kitten born with only one eye and no nose, is shown in this photo provided by its owner in Redmond, Oregon, on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005. The kitten, a ragdoll breed, which died after living for one day, was one of two in the litter. Its sibling was born normal and healthy.

Read the whole article here. It’s real and just, creepy.

Christmas Shopping 2005, Part 1

Mario and I are in one piece after our Black Friday shopping. We got up at 4:30am and went to Wal-Mart (Mom watched the boys) and got Jaylen’s Powerwheels. I was almost hyperventilating and worried sick that they wouldn’t have any since we got there at 5:08am (the sale started at 5 and people usually stay there since 12 midnight–no, really), but there were plenty. Mary asked us to get 2 Cabbage Patch babies and 2 Fairytopia Barbies for her, but when I went to get them an employee told me they were gone within the first 5 minutes. So were the computers, DVD players and laptops. There were so many cool, inexpensive things; the DVD players, which we need since our living room one died on us, were only $10 and WE DIDN’T GET ONE. *stabs something* Mario and I decided that next year we have to put aside at least $500 to do all our Christmas shopping in one morning.

The mob of people wasn’t as bad as it was in previous years. People actually weren’t pushing and shoving this time! Well, at Wal-Mart anyway; who knows what it was like at the other stores, like Best Buy. They had computers for $150! Can you believe that? I’d have elbowed someone to get a computer at that price .

Mom and I got up early on Saturday morning to join Mary for another round of 7am sales. John stayed with the boys this time. We hit K-Mart first and got a lot of cool stuff (I found Sammy and Brandon’s gifts there–they’re our gift exchange recipients, the other two are Sonia and Yazmin). Then we went to Target and then to Wal-Mart and the other K-Mart. I did pretty good and only spent $73 in total. We only have 6 family gifts to get and then my gift exchange at school (still have no idea what to get that person) and my gifts for Ricci, Mayra and Lucy. Mario’s got 2 more paychecks till Christmas, so I think we’ll do pretty good.

We (John, Mario and I) went to eat at Jesse’s first (where John was quite impressed that Mario has his “own” table. He kept making jokes about how Mario was a mafia mobster LOL) and then we went to the mall. Got a few things at Bath and Body Works (LOVE that store), John got a game at EB Games, and Mary asked us to pick up some stuff from the Disney Store and then JC Penny.

Since I’d drank SO much sweet tea at Jesse’s, I really needed to go pee. I searched everywhere for a bathroom and they were either closed, the lines were a mile long or, in JC Penny’s case, I couldn’t find it. I was so frustrated (and my bladder in pain) that I just went straight to the jewelry department and got what Mary asked me to. John and Mario were waiting a few yards away and on my way back I notice Mario’s checking his ring size. When I approach them I notice he’s at the wedding rings! We get to talking with the sales lady and we get our fingers sized and get to talking about prices. It all happened so fast. Since Mario forgot his wallet they ran my credit and we just waited, with our hopes as low as they could be since we’d just tried getting a laptop on credit last week and it didn’t pass. Well, I passed for $1,500 (more than the darn laptop, mind you) and we are officially getting our wedding rings! Finally, after 6 1/2 years! They’ll be ready by Wednesday, are white gold with diamonds (or cubic zirconias, don’t know and it doesn’t matter) and cost less than $800! We were expecting much more than that; even the sales lady was surprised.

Some of you may or may not know, but a month after Mario and I got married I lost my wedding ring. A month! We got into an argument in the parking lot of H-E-B, I handed him the ring and told him to give it back to me when he decided to be nice to me (drama queen, I know) and he THREW it at me and it got lost in our then-car, a green Ford Taurus wagon. I remember we forgot what our fight was even about as we frantically looked for the ring and never found it. I still wore my engagement ring, but stopped wearing that about a year later as it CRACKED where it got re-sized. I still have it in my jewelry box but never got it fixed.

So that was a nice surprise. Our Christmas present to eachother. Couldn’t have gotten a better one *beams*.

I’ll leave you with a picture of the new dining set Mom got us last Monday night. It’s my Christmas present from her. We FINALLY have a dining set. It gives the whole apartment an actual ‘homey’ feel .

[edit 6:33pm] Aw, Mr. Miyagi passed away :(. [/edit]
