Semi-Blustery Day

I’m feeling this omnipresent comfort; it’s been raining all afternoon, the sky is overcast and the sun’s hiding, which has made the air inside the house nice, crisp and cool–something we haven’t felt, well, all summer. I love when the weather’s like this . I’m going to blog about this weekend and then I’m jumping into bed and reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. (I swear, it feels like I’m never going to finish that book!)

We rented movies on Friday night (The Longest Yard, Robots, The Ring 2) which was quite relaxing. Mario left when The Longest Yard was almost over, which was the first movie we watched, since Noelia called and asked him to drop some stuff off for her. Since he was already over there he went over to Jorge’s. He called when he was on his way and told me how Jorge and Hiram had been at a convenience store near Jorge’s house before Mario got there and the store was surrounded in cop cars. A federal prisoner had escaped from authorities while at the hospital, hijacked a woman’s car (who had her 4 children with her) and dumped them at the convenience store they were at just minutes before Jorge and Hiram arrived. His home is near Jorge’s so that’s why he drove there. There were helicopters (one of which landed on the empty lot next to Jorge’s house), cop cars, Border Patrol, State Troopers, etc, that equaled to over 24 vehicles. It’s Monday and the guy’s still on the loose. That’s really unsettling .

I spent Saturday cleaning and reading as I planned. Mario and I got into a little argument about spending money that night. Well, I can’t really say we argued, since we peacefully hung up the phone and didn’t speak to each other till he woke up at noon on Sunday.

We made up (while still throwing in a few sarcastic remarks to each other throughout the day) and then we went grocery shopping. The boys we delightfully well-behaved the whole time we were there. We weren’t there long; the store was sardined with people and I felt claustrophobic and hot, which made me sweat buckets and oh, how I hate sweating. Mario and I split the grocery list, each took a child, and dashed through the store. We need to do that more often; we got done really fast!

Ricci got here early this morning and was really flustered. She had a crazy weekend and went to sleep late so she forgot a dozen things she needed to do. She didn’t even come over to finish up her Form assignment.

Things were pretty cool at school. We learned how to customize Reports now. We’ll be taking our Final Exam on Wednesday. We’re not getting a written test this time, just a project (which will probably be a whole Database with Tables, Queries, Forms and Reports *bites nails*). It was great talking with the girls. Lucy was back to her old self, so that was cool. It was weird that she was so down last week. We still don’t know what was behind her bleakness . Every day I realize how much I actually have in common with Mayra. I’m so glad I have them all as friends .

Ricci and Mayra treated Lucy and I to lunch at Jack In The Box. On the way there (which is less than a block away from school) I almost hit two people. My mind was totally on the road; I was paying attention. But for some reason I kept making stupid mistakes! I yelled out, “Oh my GOD! What’s wrong with me??”, and Ricci said, “Don’t worry dude, it’s because you’re with me. My whole day’s been backwards, remember?” I quickly thought to myself, ‘Don’t say that, we still have to drive home and I don’t want to mess up again!’

After we ate, it started raining. I had to drive in the pouring rain for the second time ever and it still scares me. We stopped at the Post Office, then I drove her to her ex’s house to drop something off and she tells me this guy who’d been spying on us was there. He lives diagonally from my house and watches everything Ricci does (which means he watches where I go, and that seriously creeps me out) then gives a detailed report about her whereabouts to her ex. I really hope he stops that. He has no right and he LOOKS like a huge, scary man.

I dropped Ricci off, came home, left with John and Jaylen to the bank to cash some checks for Mary, drove John to Human Resources at the school because he needed some info for his substituting class. We were barely in there for 5 minutes and it started to pour again. There wasn’t even the light, drizzling that warns you, it just started pelting down like crazy. By the time we reached the car in the parking lot we were soaked from top to bottom. I was so mad. I had to rip my beautiful, pink cell phone case off the phone to quickly dry it up (I had to use a wrist brace Mario had shoved between the seats to dry it since there was NOTHING else). My glasses were all smudgy so I couldn’t see—it was a disaster. We came home and changed clothes (poor Jaylen wrapped himself in a towel and blanket) and then went back to get in line to pick Eenan up. He did well at school and didn’t give me any trouble while he was doing his homework so that brightened up my afternoon a bit, at least.

And now I must leave my comfy computer chair and Hello Kitty throw blanket to make some dinner for the family. It’s taken me forever to type up this entry so, so much for reading in bed. Blah, I never know what to cook anymore. If anyone’s got any good recipes, please, I beg you, help meee!

Socializing

I’ve had a pretty eventful week & weekend. I had loads to do all week after school, as always. There’s always some errand I have to run. All I crave is some downtime…and for the next 3 hours I’m planning to just do absolutely nothing but surf the net (and then I have to go to the mall with John, pick Mom up, go visit Gramma at the nursing home, then pick up Mario from work and drop Mom off at her house).

Friday was pretty awesome, well, the first half of it anyway. We finished up our internet assignment (regarding Macros in Excel) the first two periods, then after the break we did a survey online. It was more of a personality quiz, really. Turns out I’m an Includer, Achiever, Strategic, Focused, and Contextual (meaning I look back to the past and better myself from it). Our group were among the first to finish (Lucy, Mayra, Ricci, and myself) so we got to leave extra early; 10:45 to be exact . It was perfect since we had a lunch date at Red Lobster. Jennifer and Rolando also joined us. It was really nice and I hope we can do it again soon, except next time we’re planning to go to the Olive Garden. Yum! It’s so nice to have friends to chill out with .

Ricci and I went to Wal-Mart where I was to find a DVD Mary wanted for her birthday. I didn’t find it there, so I called Mario (who was eating with Jose, Elda and Mary at a restaurant) to tell him they didn’t have it. He gets all mad and tells me to go back. I tell him to go since he’s on his way anyway; I had a horrible migraine. But he didn’t, and I didn’t so he was angry at me all day. We made up later during Mary’s get together, but I still felt bad about it most of the day.

Mary’s birthday was nice. The whole family was here, well, except Jorge , but she did talk to him on the phone. Later that night, we went to visit Isaac and then went to Jorge and Maggie’s and chilled out for a bit. All we could talk about was hurricane Katrina. It’s just so horrible what the people over there are going through.

I went to the movies with Mary, Elda, Sonia, and Noelia yesterday morning. We watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose. I thought it was such a good movie, but I’m biased since I love movies like that. It wasn’t scary, for me anyway, but there were two parts that startled me.

After the movies, we went to Target, where they had such cute scrapbooking and Halloween stuff in the Dollar Spot! After we finished up there, we went to eat at Chick-fil-A and talked about the movie and how there’s real-life situations like that. Mary was talking about premonitions that she gets and I told them about how every time I dream of teeth, someone dies. Creepy.

Preparing…Not Necessarily for the Hurricane

Looks like Hurricane Emily might just come our way after all. I’ve been watching CNN and the projected path leads right to South Texas. They said if it “makes it” after it reaches the Yucatan Peninsula, it could make landfall in South Texas by the middle of next week. I’d like some rain, maybe a few thunderstorms at night, but no full-bown hurricane, please. School starts on the 26th . And besides, we’re SO not prepared.

What I am, or should I say trying, to prepare for is our future. A little incident (okay, it’s not so little) that happened with the Sentra made me realize we need to check our credit reports and score, and establish better credit. While watching CNN they mentioned annualcreditreport.com so I checked both Mario’s and my credit. Of course, Mario’s two school loans show up as Negative, but thankfully we’ve already paid one off. I have nothing negative on mine, but I don’t have anything in Good Standing either. We’re planning to TRY and buy a house as soon as possible after I’ve been working for a year, so as soon as I finish school and (hopefully) get a (good) job, I’m going to get myself a Captial One credit card. It’s strange that our Lack’s account doesn’t show up on Mario’s though. I hope Jorge and Maggie finish paying off their fridge soon. It was about $1,000 and is on our account and with what Jorge makes I’m pretty sure (and hope) they’re close to paying it off. I want our account free so that we can buy furniture. We also want to get a car if we ever finish paying off the Sentra, so that’s another reason we need good credit. I’d get a credit card now, but we have to see how things are going to go once we’re paying the bills and paying my monthly loan. Bah.

Since Mario had the day off yesterday we went to the CCMS building to apply. Now we’re on a waiting list till God knows when. They said to call and check every 2 weeks to 1 month. Lovely. I’ll probably be out of school by the time we’re off the waiting list. That’s if we even qualify.

We also went to see Gramma at the nursing home. She was telling us about how she’d been having these weird dreams. In one of them, she saw Great-Grandma Lydia, which is her mother, and that she told her, “Andale, Mija. Vente. I haven’t seen you in a long time!”

Her eyes welled up with tears while she was telling me and I told her not to think about it. I hope it’s not some kind of forewarning. It’s too soon for her to leave us. I hate thinking that way, but that’s the inkling I got when she was telling me . I didn’t even tell Mom about that when I spoke to her because she’d probably get really upset about it.

*breathes* Anyway, after we saw her we went to JCPenny to get me some jeans (at least 3 was the plan) and a backpack for school. I got the Jansport Wasabi backpack in Bubblegum. As my luck would have it, I only found one pair of jeans. They never have size 7 short in Bootcut, ever, which is the reason I only have 3 jeans in total, one of which fits me kind of weird. We decided we’d go back later. Mario did find a pair of jeans for himself on sale (just one, because they’re always short on his size too), which is pretty cool.

I hope we can get everything we need to get done these next two months, done. We still need to go shopping for Eenan’s clothes, supplies, backpack and shoes. I need a few more jeans and want to buy a few of my school Polos since they only give us one. Blah. We also need to figure out how much we’re going to need for Eenan’s party and WHAT we’re getting him for his birthday and his cake! I also wanted to save up for some cabinets or a buffet table for the kitchen and a new dining set. *gasp* I just remembered we still have to get the Prelude running. Some parts are going to come in this week, but I don’t know if that’s all the car’s gonna need! Gonna have to budget ourselves A LOT now.

[edit] 1:54pm – My advisor from school just called and asked if I got my PIN and went in and whatnot. I told her yes and I guess everything’s set for me to attend orientation on the 26th. I told her about my transcript and how they did write my grad year on it but they accepted it at Financial Aide anyway. She said it was fine. I really need to go and order that diploma. I have this irking suspicion that *something’s* going to go down and my grad-year-lacking transcript’s going to screw me. I wish I knew where my REAL diploma was!! [/edit]
