Questions
I don’t usually blog at night, when I’m trying my hardest to get Alaethia to fall asleep, but since I’m willing myself not to go over to my bedroom and shake Mario awake (just to be a bitch) I’m going to blog.
One thing I hate is going to bed without showering and tonight was going to be one of the nights that I didn’t. Mario was supposed to watch Aly while I showered, which takes me all of 15 minutes, but decided HE was really sleepy so he went straight to bed. I ended up taking her into the bathroom with me while she was in her carseat and prayed that she wouldn’t scream the whole time I was in there. Luckily, she was in a good mood and was mesmerized by her reflection in the long mirror.
And can you believe he was blaming ME for his staying up till 3am?! I don’t force him to be online or watching TV or going to Chris’ house, do I?
And it’s not like I can sleep right now anyway. Alaethia is most definitely teething (at 3 months–has been teething since around 2 1/2 if you can believe that!). She got a fever twice yesterday and then diarrhea this afternoon. Plus she’s been fussy and clingy, drooling like crazy and constantly eating her hands. If she’s not frantically eating her hands she’s bringing my arms or fingers to her mouth to gum on.
Like right now…
This little girl amazes me. She’s already trying really hard to pull herself up to a sitting position when she’s laying down. She’s been trying to roll onto her tummy and has been grabbing at things and slowly bringing them to her mouth. She also sits up really straight and cute when we’re out shopping or looking at stuff. People always think she’s older than she really is :).
I meant to clean and tidy up the living room today, but was out of the house for most of it. I took Mom grocery shopping in the afternoon after picking Jaylen up from school and then went to Target with John after picking up Eenan. He bought me Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince for Mother’s Day :). I’ve got to finish up my current book (Sushi for Beginners) and start up on the 6th book to “freshen up” before the last one comes out! I also indulged a little and spent $17 on a cute yellow blouse and lilac sweatshirt for Aly and a navy blue tank for me and a sheet of cute Marcella by K stickers. Oh yeah, and small Ziplocs, too. I’d run out.
Bleh. I’ve got tons of important documents to shred, important statements to file, boxes of crap to look through (still) and I need to look through the boys’ artwork and scrapbook my favorites.
Wow. I’m watching (well, not really watching–the TV’s just on for background noise) Discovery Home and this woman is just like me. She’s got Rubbermaid tote after Rubbermaid tote full of her childrens’ school/artwork.
That actually brings up something I’m incredibly curious about: What do you do with your child(ren)’s artwork and schoolwork once they bring it home? I have every single thing Eenan did all of Pre-K, Kinder and first grade. This year, I decided I’d save only the cutest, most creative things and make a scrapbook with them (I’ve already started this year’s scrapbook but I’m not even close to finishing it). But then I feel guilty throwing out the other stuff (like math sheets and spelling homework, especially with Jaylen since it’s his very first year) because I know how hard they worked on it. Still, I don’t want to be a packrat anymore! So, what do you moms (and dads) do? What do you suggest? And also, do you or your parents have any of YOUR work saved from when you were little?
Ooh, and another question I have now that I’m remembering the tank I bought today: Do you know of any good clothing swaps? Like, online? Some place where you trade good clothes where people won’t jip you. Would anyone here be interested? I’ve got a few things I don’t want to just sell at, say, a Yard Sale because they’re worth more than the darn $1 people want to give me for them!
Since I’m asking all these questions, I thought I’d do something I’ve never done here before. Ask YOU questions! I found a survey type thing on Myspace so I figured I’d use that as a template. I removed some of the questions on that survey and added some of my own. Just copy and paste them in a comment with your answers :). Don’t be shy!! (Of course, you don’t have to answer any you don’t want to answer.)

I’ll go speed-read now while I’m trying to get Alaethia to sleep. Jaylen has a field trip tomorrow and I need to have him ready on time so I hope she decides to go to sleep already. She’s practically bouncing on my lap, though, so it doesn’t seem like we’ll be going to sleep anytime soon!
1. What’s your name?
Meggan!
2. How old are you?
21, but I turn 22 in a little over a month.
3. Where did you find “me
Erm, I’ve been reading your site off and on for years, I think. Not exactly sure how I found you initially.
4. Do you have children or do you want any? If you do have some, what are their ages?
I totally want kids. In a few years, after Daniel and I get married (which is actually on some sort of timetable now that we’re engaged! Woo!).
5. What’s one song you absolutely love and recommend?
“Birdhouse in Your Soul” by They Might Be Giants
6. Can you cook? What’s your favorite thing to cook?
Urgh, I don’t really cook. I can make macaroni and cheese from scratch and it turns out great. I’m much better at baking. Cookies, banana bread, cakes, etc.
7. What do you do for a living? Is it what you’ve always wanted to do? (I ask this because after all these years, I still don’t know what I “want to be when I grow upâ€!)
Honestly? I have my dream job. I get paid to code HTML and CSS. It is glorious. I decided I wanted to do web design sometime in high school, and majored in it in college, and got a great job doing what I love. I feel like a walking testimonial, but I really do like the work that I do and I’m constantly surprised that I get paid well to do it.
8. What was the last book you read? Did you find it interesting?
Ooh, it was called “I was a rat!” by Philip Pullman, and it was pretty fun. Probably written for elementary schoolers, but fun nonetheless. Philip Pullman is an awesome writer. Before that it was The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks and The Leap by Jonathan Stroud, both of which I’d recommend.
9. What’s your worst habit?
Procrastination.
10. If you won $10,000 dollars today, what would you do with it?
Put it toward my student loans, sadly. They need to be paid off. Barring that? I’d get some nice eyeshadow I’ve been looking at, and a bunch of summer clothes. And then maybe a Vespa scooter or something.
11. What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
Read, knit, embroider, or read blogs. Not necessarily in that order.

Also? My mom kept a ton of my stuff from when I was in school. She and I are notorious packrats though, so take that with a grain of salt. For some reason I still think I might need essays I wrote in high school. Not sure what I think I’ll be doing with them, but I can’t bear to throw them out.
OMG, Harry Potter refresher! That is such a good idea. I feel as though it’s been eons since the 6th book and I seriously don’t remember much, only that Harry and Ginny did the dirty-dirty a few times and they all ended up in he Department of Mysteries. Did you hear that JK Rowling may write an 8th book for charity? Question for you: Do you think Harry’s going to die in Book 7?
On the schoolwork note, I save ALL of my stuff, like essays and things. The worst thing I retain are my notebooks full of notes. I have them from middle school, thinking that I’ll need to refer back to something, I keep everything. So bad. I need to work on it. I don’t know what to do except buy a ton of storage totes but I just don’t have room for all my crap, LOL! Speaking of which, you mentioned online clothing swaps. What about Ebay? I need to do some spring cleaning, augh!

No, I guess I would someday.
5. What’s one song you absolutely love and recommend?
Hm. There’s not a specific one that comes to mind. I like Against All Odds by Phil Collins, the live version though!
6. Can you cook? What’s your favorite thing to cook?
Can’t. I can do quick easy things, like pasta, but not much else.
7. What do you do for a living? Is it what you’ve always wanted to do?
I’m a Trader at a brokerage firm. I remember finding the subject quite interesting when I took it at uni (about financial markets: bonds, stocks, etc), but the professor made it SO dull. I skipped a bunch of classes and didn’t do well on that course. Who would’ve thought I’d end up working in that area, heh. It’s complicated but I’ve learnt so much, and it’s actually quite fun and interesting.
8. What was the last book you read? Did you find it interesting?
Reading Isabel Allende’s ‘Retrato en Sepia’. I quite like her books. I think one thing I really like is how she describes things and situations. It’s weird but it makes me wish I was be able to describe my feelings and thoughts that beautifully (but not corny), and be able to put them into words like that.
9. What’s your worst habit?
I have bad eating habits. I’ve been able to get away with it ’cause I’m slim, but that’s still no excuse. I’ve improved a lot though. Don’t eat as much junk food (love potato chips and cookies! ;))
10. If you won $10,000 dollars today, what would you do with it?
Save Save! I’d probably set some apart to travel next year (want to go to Madrid) and maybe pay for a post-grad in the next couple of years. But save and invest the rest.
11. What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
Surf the internet. Watch DVDs. We have a lot of DVD piracy here in Venezuela; my sister got all 18 episodes of Heroes the other day so we’re hooked on that at the moment. I like watching TV shows like that, where you don’t have to wait a week for the next episode. 😉
Yay for you and Daniel getting engaged! How great is that?!
I actually tried making macaroni and cheese from scratch (the kind you bake) and didn’t have much luck with that! I should have added baking to the question! That’s actually my favorite thing to do, too.
You’re so lucky to be where you are with your career. After freelancing I realized I didn’t want to do web design as a career like I thought I did, so that leaves me with not many interesting options open LOL.
I didn’t hear that! Where did you find this out? That would be GREAT.
I’m not sure who’s going to die in the 7th book! I’ve gone over this 10,000 times in my mind, playing out theories, but I just don’t know. I don’t want him to die! If there’s an 8th book, maybe she won’t kill him off?
I don’t have room for any of my crap either, which is why I’m look through things and getting rid of things I haven’t used in say, 5 years LOL.
Oh! And I found a clothing swap on Flickr and one on another website (I might just do the Flickr one only, though.)
You’ve been stopping by for a long time! Wow…time sure does zoom by.
The Glass Castle–I think I’ve heard of it. Gotta keep an eye out for that one!
I had no idea Nong meant bird or birdie! That’s so cool :).
Green curry chicken with baby potatoes sounds SO GOOD.
An accountant! You must be good at math! The two accounting classes I took at school almost killed me (I had a major breakdown in class, embarrassingly enough!). Somehow I passed both with an A+!
The Shakira theme! That was…AGES ago!! In like 2002, early 2003 if I remember correctly!
You know what? Mario’s dream job was to be a broker. Yeah, totally surprising to me too when he told me a long time ago. He’s deathly afraid of math, though, so he never persued it.
HEROES! I’ve missed the last 4 episodes, so I have no idea how the season ended! I must download them as well LOL!

Saving for the kids’ college funds would be a great idea! Which reminds me, I haven’t deposited anything in my kids’ accounts for like, 3 months! Eek!
Hi Lea! I totally love to bake as well. That may be why I can’t seem to lose these few pounds of “baby fat” LOL.
You know, I’m aiming towards the same thing for a career. I had that about a year ago, got paid well and everything, but that place itself just wasn’t for me. I’m hoping to find something with the same security, just with better bosses LOL.
Actually I don’t think I will start his college fund anytime soon, at least not until Fred is done with college. He is going to a private Catholic school next year, since he won’t be accepted into public school due to language and income. Bummer! But yea, my house payment did go up for school taxes and we can’t even enjoy the benefits. The school is not so expensive. It is almost the same as daycare but we have to sell a ridiculous amount of tickets, about $1000 worth.
Oh wow, so you guys over there still have that whole language/income thing? They finally got rid of that this year in our city, thank GOD, or I would have been pissed. Now, if the children speak only spanish then they’re kept in school all day long. Jaylen only went have a day since he’s English-speaking. What do you need to sell tickets for?

11. What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time? Cook, Listen to music and reading
Tuition for the Immaculate Conception School is well over $3000, so it helps with that. Parents can opt out of that expensive plan and sell fundraising tickets (for the church) to cover the rest of the tuition prices. They actually raffle vehicles twice a year. It is pretty pricey, which totally sucks, but I know people whose kids start reading at three! There is a $175 registration fee by June 1st and about the same amount due to first day for supplies. Aside from that, their uniforms must be bought from a specific company and are about $50 per outfit. I actually purchase about 6-7 outfits for Frederick at that price, since we don’t buy him expensive clothing.
Congrats on your little girl! I’m sure you’ll find the perfect name in no time!
What does baked ziti consist of? I’ve heard of it, but don’t know what it is!
Oh wow, a librarian! That sounds pretty cool!
Oh wow, $3,000 for one year? Will you keep him at this school after his first year or will you send him to public school?
