3 Day Weekend

I had a great day on Thursday. Maybe it was just that I was uberly excited about having a 3-day weekend, but that day was radiating with goodness.

I had an assload of trouble with my assignment that day–which sucked, because I HATE having a hard time with anything. Usually, everyone’s asking help from me, but that day I was asking help from Romeo and Kimberly, who are sweeties and helped me figure everything out (and then I helped everyone else figure it out LOL). I now understand fill-in fields and Ref Fields in Word. I thought I understood them when we were doing the tutorial with Mrs. C-R, but I was obviously wrong! But other than that, my day was awesome.

I took my tower in and Mrs. C-R installed Word 2003 for me. How freaking awesome is that?? I was so happy about it, since I had ancient Word 1997 on my computer. I love Word Bookworm. You can do so many things with this version. I went crazy yesterday saving all the bookmarked pages of my favorite Crafts to Word, for easy viewing. Before, if I saved any, I’d save only the text in Notepad, which sucks because you usually need a visual reference. I just love it .

Ricci treated me to Stars after school and then we chilled out at my house for a while. Mario had the day off and was being a total…prick is the best word I can think of at the moment. I finally snapped at him after I’d had enough (and had been embarrassed enough) and he behaved himself .

I wire-tied the computer wires together and made the back of the desk all nice. Before, if we dropped something back there we’d find it easily since it always landed in the nest of wires. Now, something will definitely break if it falls back there since the wires are nice and tidy.

Hamster That night, I went around feeding all of my pets and found it a bit strange that Pecan didn’t start furiously munching on his cage when he heard me rustling through the bags of food. I got a handful of Hamster food, opened his cage and he still didn’t run up and try to bite my hand off. After searching around his cage, I found him in the corner, dead . My poor little old guy. We’ve had him for over 2 years, and the life span of a Siberian Hamster is only 3 years . I scooped him into my hand and sadly stroked his fur. I sorrowfully tell John, who was in shock that Pecan died, “Well, at least I can touch him now.”

John dramatically yelled at the ceiling, “Why him?? Why not me???” He sure knows how to make light of a situation LOL.

I felt so bad; I even cried a little. I’d just been telling Ricci earlier that day about Pecan, my peace offering from Mario. I’ll miss the little, evil guy . I’m never, ever getting a Siberian Hamster, as cute as they are, again. They just don’t live long enough *cries*.

I went down Main Street in McAllen with Noelia and the boys on Friday. She was looking for some white shoes and she wanted to get some nice shirts for the boys, since we’re trying to convince Mario to take a family portrait. The boys are getting older and we don’t have one family portrait.

Anyway, I saw so many nice things in the little shops. There are some really cute beaded shoes I want to go back for and a whole bunch of cute shirts. Noelia even bought some backpacks for the boys: a Spongebob one for Jaylen for $2.99 and a Yu-gi-oh one for Eenan for $1.99!

After we got home I started writing Eenan’s name on all his school supplies and then at 6:30 we went to the Watermelon Feed at Eenan’s school. I found out who is new teacher is and they were passing out supply lists (which I already had—we’re almost done with buying his supplies!). We had a few watermelon slices and Eenan had a blast playing with Sammy, Brandon and Jaylen on the playground. We saw Ms. Ortiz, Eenan’s kinder teacher and her new baby, who has the most gorgeous blue eyes, ever!

I went to JCPenny with Mary yesterday. She took Eenan shopping for some school clothes. The Arizona brand was having a sale where you buy something at regular price (which, in some cases, were already on sale) and you got a 2nd at a dollar. She got him two nice dressy shirts, 3 cute T-shirts, 2 pairs of jeans and a pair of shorts. She also got Jaylen two dinosaur T-shirts and spent $104! I think that’s pretty darn good. We just need to get Eenan his shoes, a few more shirts and some more jeans (he’s still got lots of good shorts for last year) and he’ll be all set for 1st grade .

Later that day we went to visit Mario’s grandma and then went to a party at the “new” Gorilla George’s. It’s now called Jagz, and it now SUCKS. Before, you’d pay for each pizza, and depending on which package you ordered, you’d get so many bracelets for the kids to ride the rides all day. Now, they have to pay up to $1.50 PER RIDE. It’s like Mr. Gatti’s, where you put X amount of money on a card and they swipe it at each ride. What parent wants to go to a party and spend y’know? They also individually count each adult and child, which means you’re paying even more. THEN, the darn rides eat up double the money it costs to ride, which is completely unfair. There’s workers floating about, but they’re wearing civilian clothing, not a uniform, so you can’t tell them apart and ask them to check the machines and give you your money back. I think it’s really crappy. It’s safe to say we won’t ever have a party there for the kids scared the crap out of me because Jorge and Hiram were acting weird when she asked about a new girl at work? Well, there definitely is a new cashier and we just find it strange and unsettling that they were acting so nervous when she asked. She asked how things were going for me at school and after telling her how great it’s been she got really excited and said she’d love to go. For some reason though, Jorge doesn’t want her to go. He says the tuition, which is $11,850 for 9 months (and isn’t bad because it’s a private college), is the same as “a car”, and didn’t even want to hear about it when she started telling him. I wish she could go. God knows he makes enough money to afford the monthly tuition charge. But I don’t know; I feel so bad for her. I’m just glad Mario’s so supportive.

Plans for today include wasting away in front of the computer for a few hours, making 2 CDs Mario wants, making a copy of my ROM’s for my friend Joe, then laundry, mopping, and trying to put together Eenan’s darn portable closet, which took a crap for the 4th time .

Aw. I’m listening to “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain and I miss Mario terribly. It’s going to be one of Chris and Nancy’s wedding songs. They get married next Saturday. How exciting! I need to get my hair did .

The Silver Lining

We survived the hurricane. It wasn’t as bad as everyone assumed it would be. We did get a lot of rain, which lead to a bit of flooding in the yard but Mario suited up in a raincoat and boots and dug trenches here and there to help the water flow out. We ended up losing power at around 1pm and it was fixed around 5pm. There were tornado warnings and then watches till around 7pm, but nothing hit our area. So glad everyone and everything are okay .

While the lights were out and the kids were at Mary’s and then at Elda’s, John, Mario, and I lit candles all over the house. We sat around, listened to the radio and kept going outside to see what was going on. At one point, while feeling extremely claustrophobic and bat-shit-crazy, John said, “What if the electricity never comes back and we have to live like in the middle ages?! I DON’T HAVE A SWORD!! We must pillage!”

I just stared at him and said, “And what? Take the neighbor’s canned goods?”

Mr. I Want the Hurricane To Come. He didn’t know what to do with himself for those few hours.

Mario and John ended up falling asleep because they were that bored, the boys were still with Mary, so I found it the perfect, quiet time to start reading the Harry Potter series. It was so nice reading in the dark by candle & lantern light and hearing the rain tapping on the windows. I’m on Chapter 10 of book 1–slow reader . Mary, Yadira, Sonia and Noelia would have been done by now, but I’ve only read at night so I’m excused. I was going to start from book 4 since I’ve already seen the first 3 movies (cheater, I know), but decided I’d just read all of them. Hope to finish soon so I can read the last (most recent) book!

This morning, I got ready, ate a quick breakfast, woke Mario up and called to the high school I graduated from to ask about my transcript and if I could get a new, dated one or if they could date the one I already had. I called at 10, and the woman said she’d look for my file and she’d call me back. It was 11:40 and she still hadn’t called, so I called her. She said she couldn’t find my file, so I had to call Central. I told her about how they’d given me the run-around already (the receptionist, who I’d talked to twice already had gotten my info and said she’d tell someone to call me back but never did). The lady basically said there was nothing else she could do, so I called Central again and spoke to the lady I’d spoken to before. I told her I REALLY needed my transcript and a copy of my diploma (which they said they also needed) so if she could look for it we’d be on our way. Mario and I got into an argument about it–he didn’t want to drive over there if he didn’t have to. I couldn’t believe how he was acting knowing very well how important this was to me. After throwing a little crying fit, I finally composed myself and we left. It was a disaster. The transcript I had (which was a copy I’ve had since I got out of high school when I was going to start college back then) had two classes and credits that the one the lady had filed didn’t have. The one she had, had info from my 10th grade year that the one I had didn’t. The one she had also stated I only had 21.5 credits, when I needed 24 to graduate. She knew for sure I graduated since she had a copy of my diploma. She took the time to work out my GPA (which was 3.5), added all the grades in, signed it and stamped it. I was so grateful I couldn’t stop saying thank-you. She was super busy!

We took the transcript to my advisor and everything’s good to go, thank GOD. First day of school’s on Tuesday. What’s cool is that we have a very lenient dress code. I asked her what I should wear that day, since we don’t have our Polo’s yet, and she pointed to my black Strawberry Shortcake T, jeans and black flip-flops and said, “Something like what you’re wearing. Very casual. We’re not strict with the dress code.” Frijoles frescos! (Cool beans ROFL!)

The parts for Mario’s Prelude haven’t come in yet, but Noelia doesn’t start school till August so Mario can take her car to work and I can take the Sentra till we get the Prelude ready. *whew*

We stopped by Mary’s office afterwards, chatted for a while then went to eat at Jesse’s. Since we’re low on cash, we ordered from the “cheapie” part of the menu. Mario recommended the “Super Q”, which is a Super Quesadilla, which came with rice and beans. I figured 1 taco was good for me, and the rice and beans would definetly fill me up. I was in utter shock when they brought me a taco that was almost the size of a pizza when it’s folded in half! I only ate half, but man was it delicious.

We drove around for a while trying to kill time till Mom got out of work. We passed by a few houses we liked and took pictures. We’ve been really into homes lately since we’re just itching to buy a house in a few years. We want to be sure and confident with our ideas/plans for building our house.

We picked Mom up at 4:30, stopped to rent a movie, checked the post office (my driver’s license came in–my picture’s even more hideous than I had anticipated!), and then we came home. Mom’ll be staying with us for 3 days while Aunt Nora and Tio Arturo are on vacation in San Antonio.

Mom and I chilled out at Mary’s talking with Mary, Elda, and Elda’s mom and then I came back here and downloaded a few songs. Gotta make myself an MP3 disc to hear on my way to school on Tuesday .

Just Waiting

I drove Mario to and from work on Monday. I was waiting for my FSA PIN to come in through e-mail but it never came in so I kept the car for nothing. I checked my mail Tuesday morning and it was in my inbox so I kept the car again. Drove him to and from work, went to school and got the rest of my stuff done (now, I just wait till July 26th for orientation), went to Mario’s work and left him some CD’s he forgot, then drove home. I’ve been doing lots of driving and I can honestly say I’m not as terrified as I once was. Traffic over in the Pharr/McAllen area still freaks me out a bit, but I’m getting used to it.

Took John driving for a little while last night in my car since his is still not working. Our luck would have it that there was a soccer game between USA and Monterrey going on in our city so traffic was backed up for miles. We waited at the crossover for a LONG TIME before a guy left space in front of him and waved us over. How very nice of him. John, Mario and I have this inside joke about how I’m just too damn sexy (it all started when we were making up reasons cops would stop us a while back and has turned into this daily thing) and we decided that it was my sexiness that helped us get through traffic. (I’m really not sexy, I’m quite self-concious so don’t think I’m that conceited! .)

The darn a/c went out again yesterday…hopefully it’ll stay “fixed” this time. It was so incredibly hot! It’s supposed to rain today but, ha! That’s what they always say and it doesn’t.

I need to finish painting the rest of the Yu-gi-oh plaster thingys for Eenan’s party. We’re not going to have his party at the usual place this year because they’re moving to another city and they’re closed. Blah. We have no idea what we’re going to do. I also need to buy a few more acrylic paints and I’m broke!

I’m so excited about school starting. Been catching up with Rejeana and she’s also getting things ready to start school in August . It’s awesome that we’re starting together (although we’re not going to the same school) and I’m so relieved I have someone who can relate to what I’m feeling right now.

I need to get my backpack soon (while it’s still on sale!). I thought I was going to have an excuse to go shopping, but then I realized the most I’ll be shopping for is jeans; I have to wear a polo shirt or T-shirt with our logo on it . I hope they have my size though. It always turns out the smallest size they have is Medium and it never fits right. Grr.

I guess that’s all for now. I’m just typing whatever’s on the top of my head so that makes for a very random entry .
