Career Clothes and Jitters

So I got myself a few pairs of “professional clothing” yesterday at JC Penny. We went to see Gramma first at the nursing home and took a drill, screws and the big corkboard picture collage we made her for Mother’s Day. She loved it and couldn’t stop looking at it :). I hope she gets better soon. She’s had this terrible cough for 2 weeks straight–it’s so bad I’m afraid it’ll turn into pnuemonia. I need to stop by after work (I still can’t get used to saything that) sometime this week and make sure that she’s being taken care of properly. They were supposed to give her a nebulizer treatment the day we were there and of course, nobody ever went. I’m not liking that nursing home more and more, but it kills me to try and move her away from there since she’s made so many friends :(.

We went to JC Penny afterwards and got there just in time to miss the first sale–10% off all items, or something like that. Mom and the kids waited in the car since Jaylen was asleep and John went with me. I tried cute blouses on (over my shirt of course) and he let me know whether I looked okay in them or not. I trust his judgement…he wouldn’t let me walk around looking like a sausage.

I found out another sale was to start at 4 and it was barely 2. I really needed to get these things on sale, as I’m a cheapskate and promised myself and Mario that I’d pay back whatever I spent buying those clothes when I got my first paycheck. I tried on my clothes and the skirt I got fit way too long and the pin-stripped pants that I loved that were supposedly 4petite were more like a 14 (and were the only pair!) so I found two carpis; one in light khaki and the other in black.

I decided to buy everything right then (3pm), get the kids and mom lunch since they were probably tired and bored–poor things, and then go back at 4, return everything and then buy everything with the discount. Pathetic, I know, but smart, too. I asked one of the cashiers about doing that and she gave me the okay so I let her take care of everything.

I fixed the hem on a pair of darker khaki capris and some black slacks. I’ve always wanted a nice pair of black pants and finally found some that actually look right.

You can’t really see the detail on the next black shirt, but it’s almost the same thing as the aqua one. They were having a buy one get one for 99 cents sale, heh.

That’s the outfit I’ll be wearing tomorrow for my first day.

And those are my shoes. I fell in love with them when I saw them and they’re actually quite comfortable for having heels. I wish you could see how nice the clothes actually look. They look all smushed and weird, but they’re actually really cute :p.

I’m not as nervous as I thought was going to be about tomorrow, but everytime I think about it my heart skips a beat. At least I’m not so nervous that I feel that I’m going to barf.

Woo, I just saw the previews for The Devil Wears Prada movie. I knew it was that movie as soon as I saw it. I can’t wait to see it! Well, that’s if I get some time to of course.

Wish me luck!

Mother’s Day Weekend

I hope all the Mommys out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Mine was nice and eventful. We woke up on Sunday morning and John, Mom, Mario, the boys and I headed to McDonald’s for breakfast. We went to visit Gramma afterwards. I was pretty disappointed by the nurse’s/CNA’s/supervisor’s service that day. Gramma had ants on the table beside her bed. I pressed the call button to have a nurse come over and help and nobody ever came. When I peeked out the door I could see all the nurses circled around the nurse’s station, chatting. The alarm sounds at the station; it doesn’t stop until you come to the room to turn it off. I started getting really frustrated thinking, “What if there was an emergency and these bitches never came to check on her?” I took a deep breath and calmly walked over to the station to let them know what was going on. I let them know how I was disappointed that they’d take so long, or rather not go check on her at all. The nurse that was in charge of her that day said (in Spanish, because she didn’t understand English), “I already checked on her. What does she need?” I told her, “So since you already checked on her you’re not checking on her again? What if there was an emergency?” She goes into the room and tells Gramma, “Sorry, Love, there’s nothing I can do about the ants.” And leaves.

We visit with Gramma a little longer and then I tell everyone I was going to put in a complaint. Mario and John scurry off as fast as they can to the truck, because it embarrasses them, how I “make a scene”. Well, I talk to their sorry excuse for a supervisor, who’s just as incompetent as the nurses, and basically tells me that I’m wrong, the nurse is right. So much for customer service.

We had time to kill before our movie, so we went to the mall. We got some iced coffees at Gloria Jean’s and walked around. We went to Circuit City afterwards, where Mario got himself some CDs. He kept telling me to buy myself something but it never fails that when I actually have money nothing appeals to me. All the cute shirts I liked at 5-7-9 before looked drab and boring. We went to Ross after Circuit City, where I always find something I like, but no such luck this time.

We met Mary and Noelia at the movies to watch The Wild–not my first choice. The kids had been wanting to watch that cartoon since it first came out and we kept promising to go but we never did. It was actually a cute movie–I thought I was going to hate it.

Mary had something to do after the movie, so she and Noelia left. Since Mario had promised Gramma dinner, something other than the bland, goopy stuff they serve her there, we bought her some barbacoa tacos and took them to her. After Mom fed her we left to have dinner ourselves. Mario gave me the choice, so I chose Johnny Carino’s. Mario was certain he’d hate it, because he’s not a fan of Italian like I am.

We ordered Calamari, which was great–even the kids were grabbing handfuls. I ordered Spicy Shrimp and Chicken, which wasn’t supposed to be “that spicy” according to the waiter. Mario ordered Lasagna, which he said would base his decision on whether we’d ever go there again or not. The kids ordered pizzas, which were actually whole medium-sized pizzas. Our meals came with soup, so we got the potato soup and it was delicious. Mario said it was the best he’s ever eaten. I’d never tasted it before at all, but I loved it. When our food came we were highly disappointed, although I was really trying to hide it since I was adamant on going there regardless of Mario’s warnings.

My “not that spicy” dish was the spiciest damn thing I’ve ever eaten. And it had a total of two measly shrimps in it. Mario didn’t like his lasagna at all, so he told me to have some of his since he didn’t want it anymore. It had this weird taste–an insane amount of oregano or anise, I couldn’t tell, but it was gross. It was less expensive there than it would have been at Red Lobster, my 2nd choice, though. Needless to say, first and last time at Johnny Carino’s.

We went to Wal-Mart to get house-cleaning supplies and groceries and then came home. It was 8:30 when we got here–we were literally in town all day.

I put everything away when we got here and sat down on the rug in front of the TV for some scrapbooking. Mario left to Chris’ so it was just me and Jaylen; I’d already put Eenan in bed for school the next day.

Mary had come by earlier and said to keep candles and flashlights out since we were under a thunderstorm warning. I thought nothing of it since just a few nights before we’d been under a warning, but nothing ever happened. Well this time, it did. The lights went out at around 11:30 or 12. Jaylen stayed near me while he lit the way with his Gameboy so I could light candles. I couldn’t find my lighter anywhere since Mario had taken it. Mario got here before I started panicking and we lit as many candles as we could. He gets a call from his Mom to move the van out of the carport and move the Equinox in. He went out there and I lost sight of him as soon as he walked out the door. The wind and dirt were flying around so fast and hard it stung when it hit you. And the noises! I thought it was a tornado for sure. We layed out the futon in the living room and brought Eenan over from the bedroom. We dragged Eenan’s twin into the living room and Mario and I layed there (just like when we first started living together!). We shut the door to the bedroom just in case the windows broke apart–it sounded like they were going to, they were rattling so bad. We went to sleep around 1:30 or 2, and the lights came back on at 3:15, according to John who was awake all night. When we woke up the next day we saw branches all over the yard, part of the wooden fence had fallen down. When I watched the news later they talked about a mobile home that had been thrown on it’s side and another home that had the roof torn off and was left tilted. They said it was only a thunderstorm with 60mph winds. I’d HATE to know what a tornado feels like. This was really scary.

As for today, I’m going to watch some movies I rented and finish with laundry. I feel so bored and I don’t know why :(.

Another Busy Day

I’m taking a break from studying for my Computer Concepts final. I’m so sleepy and my cold is now in full-effect, so the words in my worksheets are all jumbling together and don’t make sense anymore. This sore throat is horrible and all I have is Chloraseptic that I seem to have become immune to .

Anyway, this class was pretty cool. It dealt with everything I like to talk about: computers, internet, web sites and graphics. A few days ago we were discussing domains and hosting and Mrs. C-R asked if I’d show the class my website and explain a little about where I purchased everything from and so on. It was a little…embarrassing. The first post that showed up was the one where I’m talking about my marriage problems. Sweet Jesus.

Today we were discussing graphics, video and sound. Mrs. C-R’d asked some of us who mess around with graphic programs to bring some in, so I took Paint Shop Pro. She asked me to go up to the podium and do some examples of stuff, so I showed them vectors and pixel art. I think I bored the class half to death, but I guess that’s why I didn’t go into teaching .

John and I got into a little fight at school. We started out jokingly smacking eachother then it became an all-out catfight. There was much scratching and kicking involved. Hey, I may be almost 24, but he is my sibling and I’m more than entitled to defend myself. I think he was pissed at me all afternoon because of it. He seems to be over it now, or so I hope he is.

Had so much crap to do today. I took my tower in to get Microsoft Office 2003 re-installed on it and Bubba and I ended up staying there for almost half an hour trying to get the program on a CD since my stupid computer uses wireless mouse and keyboard and needless to say it wasn’t picking up the regular ones. He got it on a CD for me and lo and behold, it worked smile.

Before I picked Eenan up from school I went to the post office to get a money order while Mom paid her water bill across the street. Jaylen had an appointment, where I ran into my old friend Jessica E. She’s 8 months pregnant already and looks tiny. And she’s having a girl this time! She’ll have her little pair–aww smile. We caught up a bit and I dropped her off at home. I promised I’d call her and we’d meet up sometime, and this time I have to do it. We’ve been running into eachother all year and I never just sat down and called her to make plans. I need to learn to stop being afraid of the phone. I don’t know when it happened, but the phone just stopped being a method of communication I like. I have to overcome that though, if I want to keep hold of the few great friends I’ve made through the years.

We went to see Gramma after that and spent a while with her. Mom was kind enough to treat us to dinner (McDonald’s and Stars) so that I wouldn’t have to make dinner and just study. That woman’s a saint . I still had to finish with laundry and clean up a bit so I’m barely getting a chance to study. I still have to take a shower. Bleh.

I called Mike this afternoon to confirm our appointment tomorrow at the dealership. If all goes well, we’ll be there by 1p.m. I asked John to do me the favor of picking Eenan up for me. Eenan’s doing just fine. His chin seems to be healing well. I still plan to take him to his doctor on Wednesday for a follow-up, just in case.

Well, enough of my rambling. My eyes are heavy with sleep so I better study before I fall asleep on the keyboard. Looks like I won’t be washing dishes again. God, I suck.

Goodnight smile.
